Earlier today, Little Green Footballs linked to a piece on Little Bulldogs that claimed to “fisk” Robert Spencer. (Little Green Footballs link: http://littlegreenfootballs.com/article/34798_Fisking_Spencer ). [copy & paste to get around the redirect]

The article that Little Bulldogs claimed to “fisk” concerned Robert Spencer’s coverage of a national day of prayer for Muslims on the Capitol lawn in D.C. on September 24th.

Little Bulldogs’ analysis centered on the fact that Robert Spencer called for Muslims to repudiate Jihad if they really wanted to be seen as ‘peaceful.’ Little Bulldogs claimed that Muslims have no need to repudiate Jihad in order to be peaceful – that the participation in a peaceful prayer on the White House lawn was enough ‘proof’ of peacefulness. Little Bulldogs claimed that the prayer at the White House was never an act of ‘politics,’ but was rather an act of proof that Muslims are human beings.

He claimed it was no different than Jews or Christians praying on the Capitol lawn – i.e., a religious and not a political act. He then further compared Islamic law (Sharia) to Jewish law (Halacha), and claimed that some Jews (as Muslims) want to see Halacha spread to the USA, but there is no problem with this desire, as long as the desire is only peaceful.

The problem with this analysis is summed up in a comment on Little Bulldogs

Jews do not call for Halacha to be imposed anywhere but Israel, except specifically in the time of the Messiah. And in Israel, only a small fringe want Halacha imposed on the state. (see: National Union party – 3 MK’s)

In contradistinction, the Messiah or “end of days” is not a requirement for Sharia law to be imposed on the earth.

Judaism never was an expansionist faith, and there is a prohibition against proselytizing. The same is not true of Islam (or Christianity, but at least Christianity had a reformation and ‘Western’ culture underwent an Enlightenment).

….[i]t was clear the major prayer session was to show Muslims are at least peaceful. One would think a good way of showing such peacefulness would be to denounce Islamic extremism, and make clear that the goal is not to impose Sharia on others.

Sheikh Ahmed Dewidar of the Islamic Center in Mid-Manhattan, has stood next to President Bush at Ground Zero in Manhattan and condemned the 9/11 attacks. But critics have also pointed to statements he made in Arabic, translated into English by the Middle East Media Research Institute, that Zionists control the American media, economy, and government.

This is the dude who led the prayer services.

In summary:

(1) It is clear that Sheikh Ahmed Dewidar, who read from the Quran at the prayer session on Capitol Hill, was no moderate. He in fact is an open antisemite who has interviews on Ikwan.com (the Muslim Brotherhood website). As such, Robert Spencer’s concerns about the event on the White House lawn are justified.

(2) In general, this is just but one example of the hazards of post-modernism/progressivism. I have no doubt that Little Bulldogs believes he (or she) means well. But Little Bulldogs is operating under a base assumption of moral relativism. This base assumption is that people are all people, who want to live, work, breathe, and co-exist. And the assumption further goes on that Islam is thus no different than Judaism or Christianity – these religions are all the same and all seek coexistence.

However, what is clear is that again and again, those who claim to represent Islam are not ‘moderates’ by any stretch of the imagination, and absolutely do not seek co-existence and harmony. Maybe it is possible for Islam to reform itself and eventually become a religion characterized by a mainstream that believes in coexistence and tolerance. Maybe it is possible for Islam to eventually embrace modernity. I make no representations about the future and what is ultimately possible. That is beyond my knowledge. But we have to live based upon reality as it exists, and not as we wish it to exist. Sadly, far too many in the world prefer to live in a world they wish existed.

The path to peace and tolerance is through a recognition of painful realities. Once Muslims recognize the non-moderate status of those who are their leaders, they can perhaps start down the road towards modernity and reformation. Post-modernism/progressivism delays this necessary step that Muslims must make.

Let this be a lesson to us all: Post-modernism/progressivism seeks to obscure reality, and thus is an impediment towards peace and harmony.

CHICAGO, July 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) today announced that all other panelists scheduled to speak at an American Library Association (ALA) annual conference session on stereotyping of Islam have withdrawn in protest over the participation of Robert Spencer, one of the nation’s leading Islam-bashers.

The Council on Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC), a coalition of more than 50 Muslim organizations, also joined CAIR-Chicago, the other ALA panelists and a number of librarians and academics in calling on ALA to drop Spencer from the July 12 panel titled “Perspectives on Islam: Beyond the Stereotyping.”

Spencer is the publisher of the anti-Islam Internet hate site “Jihad Watch.” The independent national media watch group Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) identifies him as one of “America’s leading Islamophobes” who systematically “spread fear, bigotry, and misinformation.” A FAIR special report, called “Smearcasters,” provides examples of Spencer’s Islamophobic views.

No, they don’t. Their examples are of Spencer stating the truth:

Of course, the devil can quote scripture for his own purpose, but Osama’s use of these and other passages in his messages is consistent (as we shall see) with traditional understanding of the Quran. When modern-day Jews and Christians read their Bibles, they simply don’t interpret the passages cited as exhorting them to violent actions against unbelievers. This is due to the influence of centuries of interpretative traditions that have moved them away from literalism regarding these passages. But in Islam, there is no comparable interpretative tradition.

In his letters to the ALA, CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab emphasized that the issue is not censorship, but is instead about the need for the ALA to take responsibility for its misrepresentation of the event to the panelists and the public.

Sure it is.

Spencer recently supported a conference in Florida featuring Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders.

Homegrown Jihad – Robert Spencer’s Column in Human Events

Great discussion of the Arkansas jihadi by Robert Spencer today. 

Violent jihad returned to America last week. In a story that got little notice amid the flood of features on the murder of abortionist George Tiller, an American Muslim named Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad murdered Private William Long and gravely wounded Private Quinton Ezeagwula outside the Army-Navy Career Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Deputy Prosecutor Scott Duncan said that Muhammad openly admitted that he “would have killed more soldiers had they been in the parking lot.

Carlos Leon “Corey” Bledsoe changed his name to Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad after he converted to Islam in 2004. He then went to Yemen hoping to study with a jihadist imam, apparently traveling to Yemen on a passport from another flashpoint of the global jihad, Somalia.

When he returned to the U.S. from Yemen, the Joint Terrorism Task Force began to investigate him. Muhammad apparently had plans for a jihad larger than one that involved simply shooting up a military recruiting center: on his computer were maps to Jewish organizations and a Baptist church, as well as to a child care center, a post office and other military recruiting centers.

Investigators are now looking into evidence that before Muhammad went to Yemen, he lived for awhile in Columbus, Ohio, where he apparently attended a mosque that has a noteworthy number of connections to Muslims behaving badly. Investigative journalist Patrick Poole identifies the mosque as Masjid Omar Ibn El Khattab, where Somali immigrant Nuradin Abdi worshiped before he was sentenced to ten years in prison in November 2007 for plotting, along with two other members of Masjid Omar, to blow up a shopping mall in Ohio.

One was Abdulmalek Kenyatta, a.k.a. Christopher Paul — another worshiper and, says Poole, “longtime martial arts instructor” at the Masjid Omar — who pled guilty in 2008 to joining Al-Qaeda and plotting to blow up tourist resorts and military bases. Back in 2002, Kenyatta and Abdi discussed the shopping mall plot with a third member of Masjid Omar, Iyman Faris, who is now doing twenty years for his part in an Al-Qaeda plot to take down the Brooklyn Bridge with bombs…..

As Barack Obama prepares to give his long-anticipated major address to the Islamic world from Cairo, as a public service I here offer the speech he should give:

Dear friends,
I have said that in this speech I would offer my personal commitment to engagement with the Islamic world, based upon mutual interests and mutual respect. Establishing peace between the forces of the global jihad and America and her ally Israel is something that I would very much love to do. The first thing I must acknowledge, however, is that much as I would love to see this peace dawning over the world, it is not within my power to achieve this.
That may surprise many of you. You have grown accustomed to thinking that the tensions between Muslims and the United States – tensions that boiled over on September 11, 2001 and on the occasions of many other acts of jihad terrorism as well – are entirely the fault of the United States. Americans have been told that we are hated because of our support for Israel, and because of our attempts to bring freedom and stability to the overwhelmingly Muslim people of Iraq and Afghanistan. We are hated because we have spent American treasure to try to secure a better life for Muslims the world over, spending billions of dollars in aid for Egypt, Pakistan, and other Muslim countries.
I must speak honestly with you. It puzzles and pains Americans to see ourselves vilified and hated for trying to help others. Now, unlike the Islamic Republic of Iran and other Islamic entities, we seek no apologies, no restitution. We do not ask for a word of thanks for our numerous attempts to help Muslim societies become safe, prosperous places to live for all their citizens. We do not ask for your approval. But at this point we are going to cease efforts to build bridges of understanding with the Islamic world that have turned out to be fruitless, and even self-defeating.
We have showered billions on Pakistan to enable the Pakistani government to fight the Islamic jihadists, only to see a great deal of that many being funneled to those same jihadists, who are now stronger than ever.
We have tried to establish democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan, only to see non-Muslim minorities treated worse than ever, such that they have been streaming out of Iraq in unprecedented numbers, while the few that remain in Afghanistan are subject to increasingly violent persecution.
We have brokered peace treaty after peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians – from Camp David to Oslo to the Road Map for Peace – only to see the Palestinian side again and again trample upon its commitments to recognize and respect Israel’s basic right to exist.
I have offered you America’s outstretched hand. In doing so I have followed a path blazed by my predecessors. But that gesture of conciliation has never been reciprocated. And so now, even as my good will is still extended to you, I must act more realistically.
Pakistan and other Muslim countries will not receive another penny of American aid unless and until they demonstrate – in a transparent and inspectable fashion – that they are working against, not abetting, the forces of the global jihad. This will include instituting comprehensive nationwide programs to teach against the jihad doctrine of Islamic supremacism, teaching that Muslims and non-Muslims must live together as equal citizens on an indefinite basis, without any attempts by Muslims to subjugate non-Muslims as inferiors under the rule of Islamic law.
I trust you will understand that we cannot continue to fund the cutting of our own throat.
Afghanistan and Iraq must immediately guarantee the equality of rights of women and non-Muslims, or American arms will no longer devote themselves to keeping regimes in power that do not guarantee those rights.
I will call upon Israel to make no further territorial concessions. The withdrawal from Gaza in 2005 demonstrated only that such concessions whet, rather than sate, the appetites of Islamic jihadists for more concessions. The assumption that territorial concessions will bring peace ignores not only recent history, but also the stated goal of the jihadist movements arrayed against Israel: the destruction of the Jewish state.
That state is an American ally – a more reliable one than any Islamic state has ever been. And we will do whatever is necessary to preserve and defend that ally.
Our hand is outstretched, but we are not unrealistic about the nature of the world. The animus between us is as much, if not more, the result of the doctrines of jihad and Islamic supremacism as it is a result of American policy. I am telling you today that we understand this, and will be acting accordingly. Ultimately a policy based on realism will be much better for both of us than policies based on the fantasies and half-truths that have hitherto prevailed.

Facebook and Hizb’allah

The David Horowitz Freedom Center is calling upon all supporters of freedom of speech and of Israel to join in its protest against Facebook, the Internet social networking site. Facebook has allowed a group of hackers who openly support the terrorist group Hizballah to take over and destroy what was once the largest pro-Israel site on Facebook. In a blunt act of internet censorship, Facebook added insult to injury by disabling the account of that site’s creator, 14-year-old Todd Snider.

Snider established the Facebook group called “I Wonder How Quickly I Can Find 1,000,000 People Who Support Israel,” in July 2008. By February 2009 it was Facebook’s largest pro-Israel site, with over 180,000 members.

But on February 15, 2009, Snider’s Facebook group was hacked and destroyed by a pro-Hizballah group calling itself “Lebanese Shee’a Hackers.” The hackers completely erased the original site content and replaced it with threatening, obscenity-laced pro-jihad, anti-Israel propaganda datelined Bint Jbeil, South Lebanon: “DEAR ADMINS, DON’T WASTE MY AND YOUR TIME , LEAVE THIS GROUP ITS BETTER FOR BOTH THIS IS THE LAST TIME ILL EDIT YOU INFO , NEXT TIME…”

Facebook allowed the hackers to destroy Snider’s site, answering his repeated entreaties for help with blandly evasive form letters.

And now, after the appearance on March 6 of an article about the incident in FrontPageMagazine.com (“Facebook Jihad” by Robert Spencer), Facebook has taken the additional step of disabling Snider’s account altogether, capitulating to the jihadi hackers and accusing Snider himself of “misusing” Facebook’s “features.”

Facebook’s outrageous action is not only an assault on free speech and internet freedom and a breach of its own social networking protocols, but also appeasement of a group of hackers who have invaded Facebook’s space and who openly avow their support for the jihad terrorist group Hizballah.

We therefore urge all Facebook members who oppose Islamist terror and internet censorship to contact the site administrators through the Facebook contact form, and all others to join us in protesting against Facebook’s outrageous behavior by writing to abuse@facebook.com.
