Fox News Ratings Soar After Snub From Obama

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Once again, we see that ‘68 Chevies aren’t the only things that backfire,

Gee, do you think Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch love being The White House’s least-favorite news channel? Duh, of course they do.

Here’s a chart comparing network ratings from the period 9/28/2009-10/11/09, which is when Anita Dunn slammed the network, and the two weeks after that (”post feud”). The numbers on the bottom right of this chart show the sequential gain for all demos (+9%) and the 25-54 year old demo (+14%).

As for competition against the cable also rans, Fox News is sweeping the top 11 cable news slots in the 25-54-year old demographic (chart below), and the top 13 slots in all demos. It’s kind of ridiculous. Word is that Shep Smith’s program had its best month for the entire year. It must be depressing for folks like Olbermann and Chris Matthews, on MSNBC, how few people watch them.

And here’s all demos.

Obama’s narcissism has struck again.  He thought he’d put his popularity up against FOX’s.  Well, it looks like we can see who’s going to be homecoming king this year.

Glenn Beck Scores Top Ratings Spot While Kennedy Coverage Fails To Get Viewers

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

President Obama might have fulfilled his promise of “Change I can believe in“TM.  Those who voted for him however probably are not going to be all that pleased.

“TV by the Numbers” reports that Fox News’ Glenn Beck has received over 3 million views (just behind Bill O’Reilly).  For those unfamiliar with TV ratings, this is quite a feet.  For comparison, here are the Live and Same Day cable news daily ratings for August 26, 2009

Does this prove that passionate Conservatism works and is what the country wants? Who knows?!  But I would guess that advertising execs all over the Country are probably kicking themselves right now, and feeling very insecure about their jobs.  Maybe next time they wont allow themselves to be coerced by extremist political hacks.

From “TV by the Numbers”:

Last night Glenn Beck had over 3 million viewers at 5pm, second only to O’Reilly for the night.  But, Beck had more 25-54 viewers than O’Reilly (888K to 876K).  I don’t watch or really even care about the cable news wars, but still…wow. Even though Beck airs before primetime,  when there are fewer people watching TV, he had the most 25-54 viewers in the cable news world for the night.

And just to really infuriate all the Fox News haters out there, here are the total views for cable news stations:

P2+ Total Day
FNC – 1,374,000 viewers
CNN – 711,000 viewers
MSNBC –506,000 viewers
CNBC – 217,000 viewers
HLN – 300,000 viewers

In other Television news….

Kennedy Coverage Pulls Low Audience On Nets.  I guess that is what you should expect when you overplay your hand and the people start to believe that the MSM is exploiting the death of Senator Edward Kennedy to promote President Obama’s flagging attempt to overhaul the US healthcare system.

Charles “Nancy” Johnson Launches another attack at Beck/FOX

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Chuckles is now going all out with FOX and Glenn Beck. Since he doesn’t agree with beck he attacks and brings FOX into this.

About Glenn Beck’s Extremist Rhetoric, Part 2

David Frum asks “What is going on at Fox News?”

The whole column makes good points (and Beck has already savaged Frum for it, of course), but let’s focus on one section:

The audience for Beck’s Friday night special were each given copies of two books. One of them was Cleon Skousen’s Five Thousand Year Leap. Skousen, who died in 2006, is one of the legendary cranks of the conservative world, a John Bircher, a grand fantasist of theories about secret conspiracies between capitalists and communists to impose a one-world government under the control of David Rockefeller.

There’s always been a market for this junk of course. Once that market was reached via mimeographed newsletters. Now it’s being tapped by Fox News.

Here’s a recording of a speech by Skousen, to give you an idea who Glenn Beck thinks is a great man, worthy of promoting on Fox News.

The Mormon Times has more details on Beck’s praise for this work of conspiracy madness by a close ally of the John Birch Society: Beck’s backing bumps Skousen book to top.

“Everyone should read this book,” the conservative talk show host said as he passed out copies during a recent broadcast. On his radio program Friday evening, Beck touted the book’s climb to No. 1.

Beck added an introduction to the copies he handed out on his show. “(Skousen) was years ahead of his time,” Beck wrote. “And our founders were thousands of years ahead of their time. My hope is that all Americans young and old will spend time with this book to understand why we are who we are. The words of our Founding Fathers have a way of reaching across any political divide.”

A question for LGF readers who have been defending Beck’s insane conspiracy rhetoric: are these the kinds of people you want to be associated with—Ron Paul, John Birchers, and “end times” fanatics?

In his latest column, Victor Davis Hanson doesn’t mention Glenn Beck, but he’s also noticed that Fox News is going off the rails.

Footnote. The once insightful Fox News is rapidly devolving into a sort of entertainment circus. That is a tragedy, since the network for years has done wonders in offering an antithesis to the supposedly non-biased biased network news. Each news show now interviews hosts from the other Fox news hours (To save money? Free publicity?). Hawking books (written in short, breezy style, without much analysis) is done on the air rather than as commercials. Anchors show old clips of themselves and invite in analysts to praise their on-air interviews (are they going to be invited back if critical?).

The hosts now constantly blare out their own ratings. Murder and rapine often headline the news in the manner of the local 6PM affiliates. Quiz shows are part of the news; female analysts are almost always either young or blond or usually both, rather than simply insightful. The sober and judicious Brit Hume’s presence is missed. Take away a few top-notch correspondents, and Charles Krauthammer’s sagacity and depth of thinking, and there is increasingly not a lot there. (but I like Neil Cavuto’s business hour and Dennis Miller’s op-eds) All in all, an unfortunate development, since there is no disinterested counterpart to a 60 Minutes or NBC News, and for years Fox offered an invaluable alternative in airing real news deliberately ignored by the mainstream networks.

Why did Charles never go after Keith Olbermann? Olbermann did far worse than anything Glenn Beck has said or done. Nancy really wants to silence people she don’t agree with. Well real life isn’t like you blog. Why don’t you go attack the Left?

Charles “Nancy” Johnson attacks Glenn Beck

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Charles is doing his best to brandish his Leftists credentials. He has attacked Christians/Religious Jews, Anti-Darwinists, Supports Kosovo, Supports Global Warming Theory and now is bashing Beck and Fox News.

About Glenn Beck’s Extremist Rhetoric

Michael A. Cohen has a piece in Politico today about the over-the-top, irresponsible extremism and conspiracy theories promulgated by weeping Glenn Beck: Extremist rhetoric won’t rebuild GOP.

He’s right. This turn toward the extreme right on the part of Fox News is troubling, and will achieve nothing in the long run except further marginalization of the GOP—unless people start behaving like adults instead of angry kids throwing tantrums and ranting about conspiracies and revolution.

Chuckles doesn’t seem to remember the Left did this when Bush was in power and it worked.  Nancy comments on how FOX is going Far Right.

19 Charles 4/07/09 4:50:26 pm

Since the election, I’ve noticed a very marked shift toward the far right on Fox News.

Really Chuckles, I don’t see that.  They are just exposing Obama’s Totalitarian agenda, I guess we must salute Obama ‘our Dear Leader’, like you Charles.  Charles is a Totalitarian who believes we all must think like him.

War to the bitter end…

Monday, December 29th, 2008

“We have stretched our hand in peace many times to the Palestinian people. We have nothing against the people of Gaza,” Ehud Barak said to a special session of parliament. “But this is an all-out war against Hamas and its branches. The restraint that we have demonstrated is the source of our strength when it is time to fight.”
