Clashes at Jerusalem’s holiest

JERUSALEM – OCTOBER 25: An Arab youth runs for cover as an Israeli policeman takes aim at Palestinian rioters on October 25, 2009 in the Arab neighbourhood of Ras al-Amud in East Jerusalem, Israel. Renewed violence erupted in the city between Israeli police and Palestinians, in and around the holy site known to Muslims as the al-Haram al-Sharif and Jews as the Temple Mount.

Who runs for cover toward their supposed threat? Who stands in the middle of an open throughway making themselves a perfect target for their supposed threat? Someone who is not afraid of that threat actually doing anything.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too.

Violent clashes erupt at Jerusalem’s holiest site

JERUSALEM – Israeli police firing stun grenades faced off Sunday against masked Palestinian protesters hurling stones and plastic chairs outside the Holy Land’s most volatile shrine, where past violence has escalated into prolonged conflict.
[...]

The Jerusalem holy site is a hot-button issue for Muslims worldwide, and the Palestinian condemnation was quickly taken up abroad. The head of the 57-nation Organization of the Islamic Conference warned that any provocative act by Israel “would bear grave consequences,” while the Arab League called on the U.N. to “stop the Israeli aggressions.” Egypt urged Israel to refrain from actions with “negative repercussions” for the region.

The Islamic militant Hamas movement, which rules the Gaza Strip, called on Palestinians to rise up against Israel and urged Arab countries that have ties to Israel to sever them.

Nine police officers were lightly wounded and 18 protesters were detained, police said. The Palestinian president’s adviser on Jerusalem affairs and a leader from Israel’s Islamic Movement were arrested for alleged incitement, police said.
[...]

The disputing claims to the man-made platform in Jerusalem’s Old City lie at the heart of the Israel-Palestinian conflict. It is revered as the holiest site in Judaism, home to two biblical Temples, and Jews pray at the foot of the compound at the Western Wall.

In the Islamic tradition, it is the place where the Prophet Muhammad ascended to heaven in a nighttime journey recounted in the Quran, and is considered the third-holiest site after the Saudi cities of Mecca and Medina.

Israel has carried out numerous archaeological digs in nearby areas, but has denied Palestinian allegations that the work could endanger the compound.

The Palestinians seek to make east Jerusalem — including the holy compound — the capital of a future independent state. Israel’s government says it will not share control of the holy city.

Hamas: War will settle Jerusalem dispute, not talks

Following a conflagration of violence at Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Sunday, Hamas political leader Khaled Meshal declared that “Jerusalem’s fate will be decided with jihad (holy war) and resistance, and not negotiations.”

Arab MK: Israel provoking a billion Muslims over Temple Mount

An Israeli Arab lawmaker warned earlier Sunday that Israel was “provoking” the Muslim world by cracking down on Arab rioters on the Temple Mount in Jeruslaem.

“Israel is provoking a billion Muslims around the world, who will not hesitate to protect the Temple Mount with their own bodies,” said MK Talab Al-Sana (United Arab List-Ta’al).

As snork said, he’s admitting it is the Temple Mount and not al-Haram al-Sharif (the Nobel Santuary)? He must be one of those mythical Loyal Arab Israelis.

U.S. Consulate In Jerusalem Exclusively Caters To The P.A.

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Back in August of this year, it was noticed that the U.S. consulate in Jerusalem, instead of being a connection between the U.S., and the County it is in -Israel, was instead acting as a de facto Embassy to the Palestinian Authority (”P.A.”).

When an irate American wrote to the American Consul-General in Jerusalem on August 14 expressing outrage that the Consulate’s website “did not mention Israel, projects in Israel, the people of Israel or the modern state of Israel, but did predominantly mention the numerous projects the U.S. has with the Palestinians, he received the following response confirming that this ignoring of Israel was not on accident:

“Thank you for your feedback on the U.S. Consulate General Jerusalem’s Website. Just to clarify, the Consulate General in Jerusalem is the principal representation to the Palestinian Authority. We also provide services to American citizens in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza.

“The U.S. embassy to Israel is in Tel Aviv and is focused on the bilateral relationship with Israel. Their website is
http://usembassy-israel.org.il/. The American Center in Jerusalem also provides information about the United States to the Israeli public. Their website is http://usembassy-israel.org.il/ac/ .

“Jerusalem is a final status issue. Israel and the Palestinians have agreed to resolve its status during negotiations. We will support their efforts to reach agreements on all final status issues.”

{The Article}

This response from the U.S. would make sense but for one major issue that the above article points out – “the current seat of the PA government is in Ramallah” not Jerusalem; as Israel’s is. The article goes on to point out the significance of this conscious choice by the U.S.

[T]he United States government appears to already recognize the Palestinian Authority’s claim to Jerusalem.

Indeed.

We also cannot ignore the fact that at the same time, successive American governments have failed to officially recognize Israel’s declaration of the city as its capital since 1948, and although they are legally required to – per the 1995 “Jerusalem Embassy Relocation Act” – continue to refuse to move the U.S. Embassy to Israel to Israel’s Capitol -Jerusalem.

This sort of treatment of Israel by the U.S. State Department is systemic.  This past September The U.S. State Department  issued Ramadan, etc. greetings to Muslims while completely ignoring the Jewish High Holidays.

Both Jews and Muslims celebrated holidays in September 2009.  However, the United States Consulate in Jerusalem – America’s representative in Israel’s capital – chose to focus entirely on Islam this year, while ignoring the Jewish holidays of Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur completely.

The Consulate’s website features Eid il-Fitr greetings from U.S. President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Consul General Daniel Rubinstein. Its staff was involved in Ramadan celebrations in Jenin and Shechem, and hosted a meal in Jericho for the Muslim holiday of Iftar.

Clinton’s greeting was published on September 19 – the first day of Rosh HaShana. However, no mention was made of the Jewish holiday.

Obama Administration Funding Projects “Towards The Establishment of Independent Palestinian State”

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Obama HeadscarfThe United States is funding a Palestinian Authority project to place non-Hebrew road signs throughout Judea and Samaria.  The PA plans to implement it in exclusively Israeli-controlled areas as well.

The project is part of American aid “towards the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” as a top official of USAID (United States Agency for International Development) in the PA, Howard Sumka, told the Al-Hayat Arabic daily.

The project was announced by PA transportation minister Dr. Saadi Alkaranz. Correspondent Haggai Huberman reports that it is the first of its kind since Jordan lost control of the area when it attacked Israel during the 1967 Six Day War.  All roads and localities will appear in Arabic and English on the new signs; Hebrew will not appear.

Minister Alkaranz said, “This project is included in the government’s plans to lay the foundations for the establishment of a Palestinian state whose capital is Jerusalem.” He explained that the signs will not include the names of any Jewish locations in the region.

{The Article}

Although the writing on roadsigns might sound like a non-issue, it has become a very contentious issue in the Arab/Israel conflict recently.  Not too long ago, Israeli Transportation Minister, Yisrael Katz  suggested that although all the roadsigns in Israel will continue to be in Hebrew, and Arabic (and English), they will use the Hebrew names for Israeli cities.  Thus, instead of now where the signs refer to Jerusalem as “Jerusalem” in English, “Yerusahlaim” in Hebrew, and “Al-Quds” in Arabic, they will all read “Yerusalaim” but be written in all three languages.   This caused an outpouring of all hell from the Israeli-Arabs,  and Muslim/Arab world with claims of racism, ethnic cleansing, etc.  Dispite this, the PLO/PA plan, funded by the U.S. (ie: your tax dollars) is to only use Arabic!

We also should not ignore the scope, message, and impact of this plan.  The project will effect EVERY area of Judea & Samaria, creates facts on the ground, impact the daily lives of the Arabs in Judea & Samaria, and interfere directly with Israeli sovereignty.  This is all without getting into how it is premature, and in violation of the principles, requirements we have insisted upon before such actions could be taken.  (see Road Map, Annapolis, Oslo, Camp David…)  As we all know, this hasn’t stopped the Obama administration from holding Israel to the previous agreements. (ie: removing roadblocks, giving the PLO soverignty, and “settlements”)

Hopefully it is accidental, but the Obama Administration is participating in history revisionism, racism, and ethnic cleansing.  The Obama administration seems to be making the same mistakes as the Bush administration did with the “Disengagement”, and supporting an outcome that is inherently Anti-Semitic.   By creating these “Arab only” facts on the ground, the Obama administration is wiping the historic Jewish connection to Judea & Samaria out of the history books, and supporting the forced exclusion of Jews from a future Palestine, and bolstering the Arab claim that a future Palestine shoudl be Judenrein.

‘Fun with terror’

Monday, August 24th, 2009

This is nothing new and yes, most of us have seen these before.  However, that doesn’t change the fact that it never ceases to amaze me that the world continues to blame every Islamic ill on Israel.  Will they ever take responsibility for anything? (rhetorical)  I hope and pray that people all over the world will begin to open their eyes to the hypocrisy and hate that oozes through almost every fabric of palestinian life.

They could have hope, instead these children are only taught hate.

Hamas Woos Gaza Kids from UN Camps to Join ‘Fun with Terror’

(IsraelNN.com) Hamas has embarked on a massive campaign this summer to woo Gazan children away from UNWRA (United Nations Works and Relief Association) summer camps to its own camps. At Hamas summer camps, kids learned to wage war against Israel and were indoctrinated with Islamic ideology.

Hamas has run 700 summer camps throughout Gaza in 2009 at a budget of $2 million, which were attended by 100,000 children. according to a research report by the Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center. In contrast, UNRWA ran camps that were attended by between 200,000 to 250,000 kids. Fatah, Islamic Jihad, and other Islamic groups also run Gaza summer camps.

Leading up to the summer, Hamas embarked on a massive advertising campaign which included a designated website designed to encourage parents to send their children to Hamas camps instead of the UNWRA camps.

Hamas council member Younis al-Astel repeatedly lambasted the UNWRA camps for being coeducational, and claimed that campers there used drugs, learned how to dance, and worst of all, were taught about reconciliation between Gaza and Israel.
[...]

Besides learning about Islam and studying the Koran at Hamas summer camps, children also learn to fight in the Jihad against Israel. Children are taught weapons training, hand-to-hand combat, as well as the use of explosive belts for suicide missions.

In one incident in July, children in a Hamas summer camp reenacted the June 2006 kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, in which two other Israeli soldiers were killed.

“In the war against Israel, there were more than 100 children trained to attack Israeli forces in Gaza,” a source in Gaza told Middle East Newsline. “Some of them ran away and many of them were killed.”

Children in Hamas summer camps also protested the “Israeli siege” of Gaza, some laying on the ground in rows, faking death from starvation.

Flashback:
(07/14/04):

PA summer camps: Featuring the use of summer camps to promote a culture of hatred amongst Palestinian children. Teach Kids Peace calls for an end to end to ALL incitement at PA summer camps. Teach Kids Peace.

(07/31/08):

Gaza summer camps teach kids to fire rockets
Palestinian children on annual vacation can choose between Hamas or Islamic Jihad summer camps, both of which boast militia-style training, Koran classes, lessons on political prisoners

But our “leaders” are more worried about Israelis building homes in a city they created, than to take issue with Palis militarizing children.

Obama’s ‘Hit Man’ Emanuel Splitting American Jews

Friday, July 31st, 2009

IsraelNN.com

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has denied calling White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and senior Obama advisor David Axelrod “self-hating Jews.” The alleged use of that term is particularly timely as Jews mourn on Thursday the destruction of the First and Second Holy Temples; Judaism teaches that “causeless hatred” among Jews was the reason for the fall of the Second Temple.

Whether or not the Prime Minister used the term, increasing criticism by American Jews of U.S. President Barack Obama signals a split in the American Jewish community.

The trigger for the growing crisis between Israel and the U.S., and among American Jews, is the issue of “settlements,” which President Obama labeled as “illegitimate” in his speech in Cairo nearly two months ago. He later included Jewish communities in eastern Jerusalem as part of the “settlement” label.

President Obama revealed this week that his White House advisor Rahm Emanuel, whose father was an Israeli and part of the underground resistance movement under the British Mandate, tells him everything he needs to know about Israel.

Emanuel also is the man who choreographed the handshake between former President Bill Clinton, former Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin and Yasser Arafat on the White House lawn.

He has pushed the president into a head-on collision with the Netanyahu government, but there is a growing opinion that he has also left the president out on a limb. Emanuel’s strategy was to demonstrate that the pro-Israel lobby American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) no longer speaks for American Jewry.

Mondoweis Blogger Philip Weis, who continually attacks a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria and eastern Jerusalem, wrote last month, “Obama’s game is to defeat the Israel lobby from within. He could not defeat the lobby from outside it…. But now he is cracking it like a nut, and counting on Jews to do the cracking.”

That strategy has turned into a wall of opposition, both in Israel, where the president’s popularity rating is near-zero, in the U.S. where Emanuel has simply ignored opposing views of major Jewish organizations, and in the normally anti-settlement American press.

Washington Post vs. Obama
The liberal and highly influential Washington Post has criticized President Obama on his policy towards Israel, and an editorial on Thursday went even further. Under the title “Tough on Israel – Why: President Obama’s battle against Jewish settlements could prove self-defeating,” the newspaper’s editors wrote:

“One of the more striking results of the Obama administration’s first six months is that only one country has worse relations with the United States than it did in January: Israel. The new administration has pushed a reset button with Russia and sent new ambassadors to Syria and Venezuela; it has offered olive branches to Cuba and Burma. But for nearly three months it has been locked in a public confrontation with Israel over Jewish housing construction in Jerusalem and the West Bank.”

The editorial criticized the president for his “absolutist demand” for a freeze on all building for Jews in Judea and Samaria and eastern Jerusalem. “Palestinian and Arab leaders who had accepted previous compromises immediately hardened their positions; they also balked at delivering the ‘confidence-building’ concessions to Israel that the administration seeks. Israeli public opinion, which normally leans against the settler movement, has rallied behind Mr. Netanyahu.”

The newspaper warned that any compromise by President Obama may leave him “diminished among both Israelis and Arabs.”

Hamas Stages Mass Wedding of 450 Little Girls To Adult Men

Friday, July 31st, 2009

It is not often that I am truly shocked by what is going on in Gaza, and with Hamas.  This however has me actually sick to my stomach.  How the world can sit idly by and ignore this sort of thing is mind-boggling.  The fact that the U.S. is probably paying for it is even worse.

This is not Change I believe in!

SHEIKH ZAYED CITY, Gaza Strip — Nearly a thousand Palestinians celebrated marriage on Thursday night in a ceremony organised by Hamas in the north of the Gaza Strip.

Hamas dignitaries including Mahmud Zahar, one of the militant group’s top leaders, were on hand to congratulate 450 grooms who took part in the carefully stage-managed event.

“We are saying to the world and to America that you cannot deny us joy and happiness,” Zahar told the men, all of whom were dressed in identical black suits and hailed from the nearby Jabalia refugee camp.

Each groom received a present of 500 dollars from Hamas, which said its workers had also contributed five percent of their monthly salaries to add to the wedding gift.

The 450 brides shared none of the glamour, taking seats among the audience of around 1,000 party guests: most couples had already taken part in religious ceremonies elsewhere, with more marriages planned for the next few days.

“We are presenting this wedding as a gift to our people who stood firm in the face of the siege and the war,” local Hamas strongman Ibrahim Salaf said in a speech.

The Gaza Strip has been under Israeli blockade since the Islamist Hamas movement seized control there in June 2007. In December and January 1,400 Gazans and 13 Israelis were killed in a 22-day war that left much of the territory in ruins.

Notice how the AFP article says nothing about the ages of the girls, ignores what is really taking place at this event, but finds space to stick in a blurb about how “evil” Israel is.  What the heck does Israel have to do with this wedding of 450 old perverts to pre-pubescent girls?  This sort of thing is unheard of in Israel.

The media, and the liberal establishment behind it, should be ashamed of themselves.  They are so blinded by Israel hatred, Islamist sycophancy, multiculturalism and their rudderless leftism that they have completely forgotten the universal principles of decency their liberalism is supposed to stand for.  Instead they help Hamas turn the mass rape, and enslavement of over 400 pre-pubescent little girls into into some sort of glorious rebellion against a mythical oppression.  This is really sick!

The following video shows the true age of the “brides”.

Britain ’should approach Hamas’

The UK government has come under rising pressure from MPs to start making contact with Palestinian group Hamas.

A Foreign Affairs Committee report also said it was “regrettable” UK-supplied military items were “almost certainly” used by Israel in the Gaza conflict.

The cross-party group, which monitors foreign policy, called on the EU to make relations with Israel conditional on its peace-making efforts.

Relations with Israel are conditional, but relations with Hamas are not? The goal of Hamas is to wipe out all of Israel. It is no secret.

Hamas was also criticised for its use of rockets on Israeli civilian targets.

Hamas came into criticism for its rocket attacks, but MPs concluded that Israel’s military action in Gaza was “disproportionate”.

Mr Gapes said: “Rocket fire from Gaza by Hamas and other Palestinian groups on civilian targets in Israel is unacceptable.

“It generates the risk of a renewed escalation in violence, and constitutes a central obstacle in the way of Israeli willingness to move forward towards a two-state settlement.”

Oh. I thought it was unacceptable because they were FIRING ON CIVILIAN TARGETS INTENTIONALLY. Silly me.

Soros Advising Obama On Destroying Jewish Homes In Judea & Samaria

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

If you needed another reason to support the “settlements”, I just found it.  George Soros (Obama’s “Rove”) is clandestinely working overtime to destroy them!

The Soros created International Crisis Group (ICG), a think tank staffed with people such as anti-Israel Samantha Power who once called for a US invasion of Israel to impose a solution to the Palestinian issue (and since moved into the administration), Zbigniew (the Jews are the Problem with the world) Brzezinski and Robert Malley. (info from Yid with Lid)

Recently the ICG has issued a report to assist President Obama craft his policy on how to most effectivly destroy Israeli “settlements”.  Soros’ classless organization even went as far as sneaking into Israeli Synagogues, and dressing up as religious people to spy on the Jews there.

____________________________________

http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/images/2007/09/13/obama_george_soros2.jpg(IsraelNN.com) The International Crisis Group, an investigative think tank connected to billionaire George Soros, has issued a report on the current influence of the religious Zionist movement and ways in which its opposition to further Israeli retreats can be overcome. Soros, who was a major contributor to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and who is vehemently opposed to the “Israel lobby” in the United States, is a member of the Crisis Group’s executive committee.

After conducting extensive research in Israel, including dozens of interviews with Jewish leaders, senior and junior officials, rabbis, military men, residents of Judea and Samaria and many others, the group’s analysts concluded that the government needs to “rein in” the “settlerment enterprise” and stop showing “lenience toward anti-Palestinian violence or hateful incitement, especially with a religious content.”

However, they also note that Israel’s religious right has “deep roots,” and that “even its most militant expression cannot be dealt with exclusively through confrontation.”

Advocating what some may see as a divide-and-rule approach to the religious Zionists, the report’s authors believe that the religious right’s opposition to further Israeli pullouts can be minimized if an agreement reached between Israel and Arabs marks exactly where the border between Israel and the PA will pass, thus making it clear which communities can keep on growing and which are on the chopping block.

The report also warns of a drift by ultra-orthodox Jews towards nationalistic positions, and recommends that the United States and other “foreign actors” attempt to woo ultra-Orthodox parties like Shas and United Torah Judaism by involving them in the diplomatic process.

I guess President Obama’s policy of “not interfering in other Countrie’s internal affairs” (see: Iran) does not apply to working up an active policy of weakening Israel.

____________________________________

(*UPDATE: 2:15 p.m. PST by WrathofG-d):  It probably won’t surprise anyone, but ICG is hardly “unbiased” and actually presents itself to the Arab-Israel conflict having already accepted the Arab narrative, and arguments as fact regarding “settlements”, Israel’s security, Jerusalem, giving land to Syria, creating a “Palestinian State”, and appeasing Lebanon.

1. Crisis Group’s Middle East Initiative

On 22 September 2006, the International Crisis Group launched a new global advocacy initiative designed to generate new political momentum for a comprehensive settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Major funding support for the project — to cost around US$400,000 in its first year — was announced at the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York.

Crisis Group’s Initiative was designed to help fill the present policy vacuum, stem the slide toward greater instability, and provide a viable alternative for moderates in the region on both the Israeli and Arab sides. The goal, or political horizon, must be unambiguously stated as security and full recognition to the state of Israel within internationally recognised borders — along with an end to the occupation for the Palestinian people in an independent, sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, recovery of lost land to Syria, and a fully sovereign and secure Lebanese state.

Further details of Crisis Group’s Middle East Initiative, including the full text of the document and list of signatories, can be found on our Middle East Initiative page.

Op Ed: In Defense Of The So-Called “Settlements”

Monday, July 20th, 2009

The best weapon against the propaganda, and half-truths we are bombarded with everyday by the MSM, and the professional Arab/Islamist taqiyah organizations is education.  It is in this vein that I present to you the following op-ed.

_______________________________

In Defense of The (So-Called) “Settlements”

by Israel Medad

No one, including a president of the United States of America, can presume to tell me, a Jew, that I cannot live in the area of my national homeland. That’s one of the main reasons my wife and I chose in 1981 to move to Shiloh, a so-called settlement less than 30 miles north of Jerusalem.

After Shiloh was founded in 1978, then-President Carter demanded of Prime Minister Menachem Begin that the village of eight families be removed. Carter, from his first meeting with Begin, pressed him to “freeze” the activity of Jews rebuilding a presence in their historic home. As his former information aide, Shmuel Katz, related, Begin said: “You, Mr. President, have in the United States a number of places with names like Bethlehem, Shiloh and Hebron, and you haven’t the right to tell prospective residents in those places that they are forbidden to live there. Just like you, I have no such right in my country. Every Jew is entitled to reside wherever he pleases.”

We now fast-forward to President Obama, who declared on June 15 in remarks at a news conference with Italy’s prime minister, Silvio Berlusconi, that Jewish communities beyond the Green Line “in past agreements have been categorized as illegal.”

I believe the president has been misled. There can be nothing illegal about a Jew living where Judaism was born. To suggest that residency be permitted or prohibited based on race, religion or ethnic background is dangerously close to employing racist terminology.

Suppose someone suggested that Palestinian villages and towns in pre-1967 Israel were to be called “settlements” and that, to achieve a true peace, Arabs should be removed from their homes. Of course, separation or transfer of Arabs is intolerable, but why is it quite acceptable to demand that Jews be ethnically cleansed from the area? Do not Jews belong in Judea and Samaria as much as Palestinians who stayed in the state of Israel?

Some have questioned why Jews should be allowed to resettle areas in which they didn’t live in the years preceding the 1967 war, areas that were almost empty of Jews before 1948 as well. But why didn’t Jews live in the area at that time? Quite simple: They had been the victims of a three-decades-long ethnic cleansing project that started in 1920, when an Arab attack wiped out a small Jewish farm at Tel Hai in Upper Galilee and was followed by attacks in Jerusalem and, in 1921, in Jaffa and Jerusalem.

In 1929, Hebron’s centuries-old Jewish population was expelled as a result of an Arab pogrom that killed almost 70 Jews. Jews that year removed themselves from Gaza, Nablus and Jenin. The return of my family to Shiloh — and of other Jews to more than 150 other communities over the Green Line since 1967 — is not solely a throwback to claimed biblical rights. Nor is it solely to assert our right to return to areas that were Jewish-populated in the 20th century until Arab violence drove them away. We have returned under a clear fulfillment of international law. There can be no doubt as to the legality of the act of my residency in Shiloh.

I am a revenant — one who has returned after a long absence to ancestral lands. The Supreme Council of the League of Nations adopted principles following the 1920 San Remo Conference aimed at bringing about the “reconstitution” of a Jewish National Home. Article 6 of those principles reads: “The administration of Palestine … shall encourage … close settlement by Jews on the land, including state lands and waste lands.” That “land” was originally delineated to include all of what is today Jordan as well as all the territory west of the Jordan River.

In 1923, Britain created a new political entity, Transjordan, and suspended the right of Jews to live east of the Jordan River. But the region in which I now live was intended to be part of the Jewish National Home. Then, in a historical irony, a Saudi Arabian refugee, Abdallah, fleeing the Wahabis, was afforded the opportunity to establish an Arab kingdom where none had existed previously — only Jews. As a result, in an area where prophets and priests fashioned the most humanist and moral religion and culture on Earth, Jews are now termed “illegals.”

Many people insist that settlements are illegal under the Fourth Geneva Convention. But that convention does not apply to Israel’s presence in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza district.  Its second clause makes it clear that it deals with the occupation of “the territory of a high contracting party.” Judea and Samaria and Gaza, which Israel gained control of in 1967, were not territories of a “high contracting party.” Jewish historical rights that the mandate had recognized were not canceled, and no new sovereign ever took over in Judea and Samaria or in Gaza.

Obama has made his objections to Israeli settlements known. But other U.S. presidents have disagreed. President Reagan’s administration issued a declaration that Israeli settlements were not illegal. Support for that position came from Judge Stephen M. Schwebel, former president of the International Court of Justice, who determined that Israel’s presence in Judea and Samaria did not constitute “occupation.” It also came from a leading member of Reagan’s administration, the former dean of the Yale Law School and former undersecretary of State, Eugene Rostow, who asserted that “Israel has a stronger claim to the West Bank than any other nation or would-be nation [and] the same legal right to settle the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem as it has to settle Haifa or West Jerusalem.”

Any suggestions, then, of “freezing” and halting “natural growth” are themselves not only illegal but quite immoral.

Hamaswood is taking over.

Hamas makes feature film about slain militant

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — The Gaza movie premiere drew an exclusive crowd with local celebrities posing for jostling photographers — and that’s pretty much where the similarities end between Hollywood and the fledgling film industry of Gaza’s Hamas rulers.

The Islamic militants’ first feature film — an action-packed homage to a top Hamas militant — cost only $200,000 to make and is being shown to segregated audiences of bearded men and veiled women.
“It’s Hamaswood instead of Hollywood,” Fathi Hamad, Gaza’s Hamas interior minister, said after the film’s first showing Friday evening at Gaza City’s Islamic University. “We are trying to make quality art that is Islamic and about the resistance, without provocative (sexual) scenes.”

Hamad doubled as producer, and the screenplay was penned by Mahmoud Zahar, the Gaza strongman seen as one of the architects of the group’s violent takeover of Gaza two years ago.

Despite his fierce reputation, Zahar, a physician, has always had an artistic streak, with three novels and two screenplays to his credit.

Oh, well then.

In the two-hour movie, titled “Emad Akel,” there’s plenty of action. The hero frequently leaps out of cars to open fire on Israeli soldiers, prompting bursts of applause from the audience each time. There’s no romance, however, and the female actors all wear long robes and headscarves.
[...]
Rabin frequently yells at an inept Barak — now Israel’s defense minister — who can’t stop Hamas fighters. Israeli soldiers always seem asleep. Sleazy Israeli handlers try to persuade Palestinians to collaborate by offering them women and alcohol.

Geeze.
