Out of Control Medicare…

Guest Post from savages_girl

This is a story I saw on 60 Minutes last Sunday. I can’t believe this stuff…

Medicare Fraud: A $60 Billion Crime

Or more interesting to watch it here:

Steve Kroft in action

Did anybody else see this?

I can’t believe that bilking the government-run Medicare system would be bigger business in Miami than drug trafficking. Who’d have thought? I’m just astounded on the one hand and disgusted on the other.

Anybody have any thoughts to share on this?

Don’t You Hate It When a Perfectly Good Meme Goes Down in Flames?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

As the “vast right wing conspiracy wants to assassinate Obama on Facebook” meme just did?

“The Secret Service has determined that a juvenile was behind the online survey that asked whether people thought President Obama should be assassinated, an agency spokesman said Thursday.

No criminal charges will be filed against the juvenile or the juvenile’s parents, spokesman Edwin Donovan said. Donovan would not identify the names of the child or parents or say where they are from.

The poll, posted Saturday on Facebook, was taken off the popular social networking site quickly after company officials were alerted to its existence. But, like any threat against the president, Secret Service agents took no chances.

The poll asked respondents “Should Obama be killed?” The choices: No, Maybe, Yes, and Yes if he cuts my health care.

After Secret Service agents met with the child and the child’s parents, they determined there was no intent to harm the president.

“Case closed,” Donovan said. “I guess you could characterize it as a mistake.”

Yeah, or something like that. Look, I am in no way applauding or approving of what this little cretin did, but we ought to find this instructive of the way the Left seems to want something bad to happen to Obama. So they can ghoulishly use it to their political advantage. Just like they did with that census worker in Kentucky who, so far as we know to date, wasn’t actually killed by right-wing Tea Partiers acting on orders from Glenn Beck.

Let’s look at this from the standpoint of logic – why would evil right-wing Tea Partiers taking orders from Glenn Beck want to knock off Obama? What, so that we could get President Biden, perhaps the one person in Washington D.C. who is less competent and insightful than the current occupant of the Oval Office? No thanks. Besides, though we may not like or agree with the President, nearly all conservatives (unlike the Left) can understand that the man and the office necessarily go hand in hand. The office is constitutional, and is to be respected, because it is a symbol of American sovereignty and the executive power that represents our nation on the world scene. Harming the man in the office is an attack on our constitutional system – even if the man in office is busy himself attacking that same system. Some things are just too important to leave to the ghouls.

Yet, there seems to be a serious case of martyr-syndrome out there among many on the Left. They need the omnipresent vast right-wing conspiracy to commit some horrible political crime, so that they can ride it for all it’s worth politically. Really sick, when you think about it.

Detainees Shown CIA Officers’ Photos

Detainees Shown CIA Officers’ Photos
Justice Dept. Looking Into Whether Attorneys Broke Law at Guantanamo

The Justice Department recently questioned military defense attorneys at Guantanamo Bay about whether photographs of CIA personnel, including covert officers, were unlawfully provided to detainees charged with organizing the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

The photos were taken by researchers hired by the John Adams Project, a joint effort of the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, to support military counsel at Guantanamo Bay, according to the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the inquiry. It was unclear whether the Justice Department is also examining those organizations.

Both groups have long said that they will zealously investigate the CIA’s interrogation program at “black sites” worldwide as part of the defense of their clients. But government investigators are now looking into whether the defense team went too far by allegedly showing the detainees the photos of CIA officers, in some cases surreptitiously taken outside their homes.

Not good.

The honey mustard made her do it!

Police: Woman tried to run over employee over beef.

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Blame it on the honey mustard. Police say it all started when a disgruntled customer didn’t get condiments with her Kentucky Fried Chicken order.  Police arrested a 26-year-old woman who they say tried to run over a KFC employee, all because the employee failed to provide condiments with her meal.

Older stupid fast-food 9-1-1 crimes.

The Great Burger Beef
Florida patron dials cops over lemonade-less combo meal

It appears Florida has more than its fair share of these types of horrible “crimes.”

A Thank You Note To Honduras!

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Dear Citizens of Honduras,
I wish to personally thank you for faithfully defending your nation’s constitution from a failed coup d’etat, by your now ousted President.
You have given all lovers of freedom and democratic principles, a shining example of how to recognize and defeat a determined enemy, and one who would become your dictator.

Good citizens of Honduras, you watched as ‘Mel’ ran a corrupt government, that hadn’t even submitted a fiscal budget for 2009, as demanded by your constitution. His attempts to bribe and confuse the mostly impoverished citizens did not go unnoticed, and you acted accordingly. In violation of your constitution, he attempted to hold an illegal referendum (which are prohibited within six months of a general election) in order to force the ‘cuarta urna’, or fourth ballot box, into the polling places for the November general election. This would have created a National Constituent Assembly, hand picked by Zelaya, which would have had the power to review and change the constitution, with the end result being ‘continuismo’ for Zelaya, just as his close associate Hugo Chavez has done.

People of Honduras, with your Attorney General, the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), your military commanders, and the National Congress, you have demonstrated loyalty to the rule of law. As young as your constitution is, ratified in 1982, you have nurtured it despite the many hardships your citizens face in their daily lives.

I would also like to thank you for demonstrating, to those of us who will listen and pay attention, what a government and its citizens can and should do when its elected leaders behave unlawfully. You have given us hope that we could, when faced with a constitutional crisis, rise up and peacefully remove the president when his actions are repeatedly demonstrated as being unconstitutional.

Further thanks are extended for continuing to show support for your government’s actions in removing your president, despite the many world leaders opposition, as well as the ongoing propaganda being disseminated against you in the alleged main stream media. That CNN will cover your peaceful protests of thousands, in support of your governments actions, the only videos to be found are of the pro-Zelaya protests, small as they are.

While I don’t envy the uncertainty that you face right now, Honduras, you have given us all an excellent lesson in civics and hope, that with reasonable people, usurpers of authority and illegal acts will not be tolerated.
You have proven that there is change we can believe in.

With gratitude and respect,
a freedom loving American citizen.

Breaking News: Convicted Swindler Madoff Sentenced to 150 Years

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Lawyers for the POS, who cheated and made thousands destitute who trusted him with their retirement funds and left them with nothing in their senior years, and who caused two of his victims to commit suicide, had the gall to say Madoff should only get 12 years- B in B

NEW YORK – Bernard Madoff has been sentenced to 150 years in prison for his multibillion-dollar fraud scheme.

U.S. District Judge Denny Chin handed down the sentenced in New York on Monday.

The 71-year-old former Nasdaq chairman was arrested late last year after confessing to his sons that his secretive investment advisory business was a “big lie.”

He pleaded guilty to securities fraud and other charges in March and has been jailed since.

Bernard Madoff has apologized to his family and to the victims of his multibillion-dollar fraud scheme.

The 71-year-old financier said Monday at his sentencing that he “will live with this pain, this torment, for the rest of my life.”

Madoff says that he dug himself “deeper into a hole” as the scheme progressed.

Attorney Ira Sorkin says the 150 years in prison recommended by prosecutors or the 50 years recommended by the federal probation department are excessive.

Victims who lost millions of dollars earlier urged a stiff sentence for the former Nasdaq stock market chairman.

Madoff has pleaded guilty to securities fraud and other charges in March and has been jailed ever since.

House holds moment of silence for pedophile

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

This is beyond reprehensible. Another “black” guy, another free pass, just like President Zero.
Yeah America, we are all equal but some are more equal then others.
America dislikes pedophiles unless they are formerly black and popular.
These politicians should be ashamed, but then that would require some type of morals and a soul, neither of which these people have. These people need to be run out of town.

‘Neda’:Her Execution…My Rant!

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

neda never forget

Sitting comfortably at home, in peace and security, I have been following events, as best as I can, of the struggle for freedom in Iran.
It wasn’t until this morning that I finally viewed the video of the last moments of this young woman, as she enters into her death throe, from a Basiji sniper bullet, ripping through her chest.

I haven’t been the same since.

I have to rant, and get through processing this crime and what it means to me, so that I can sleep tonight, and function tomorrow. Being Father’s Day, the thought of her father, holding her in the final moments of her short life, and living with that pain today, gnaw at me. At the same time, I am safe, and my children and grandchildren are all happy and healthy.

I’m not a stranger to the horrible things people can do to others, though I will never be able to fully comprehend it. I’ve seen people die, many times, from my most beloved, to complete strangers, and rather than get used to it, it is more of a piling on effect.

The execution of this young woman may become a turning point, for the future of Iran, if they are successful in removing the corrupt, vile, and wicked Mullahocracy that they have had to endure for the past thirty years. I not only want to believe that, I have to, or her death will be for no purpose, and I believe God has a purpose for us all.

Her name was Neda Salehi, she was twenty years of age, and her short life ended at 7:05p.m., 20 Jun 09, on Karekar Ave., Tehran, Iran. She was standing next to her father, peacefully holding a sign which simply said “freedom.”
According to a doctor who was at the scene, he had this to say:

A young woman who was standing aside with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot at the girl and could not miss her. However, he aimed straight her heart. I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim’s chest, and she died in less than 2 minutes.
The protests were going on about 1 kilometers away in the main street and some of the protesting crowd were running from tear gass used among them, towards Salehi St. The film is shot by my friend who was standing beside me.

Neda, in Farsi, means “voice” or “the call.” Her name and image have gone international, as a symbol, a voice, a call to the Iranian people to not forget her, and why she was murdered. The threat that Khamenei made in his sermon this past Friday has come true, and his actions and words may be the final statement the Iranians listen to. Khamenei has made a serious mistake, that many egomaniacs have made, and that is to create the most dangerous enemy you can have.
People with nothing to lose, will risk everything they have.

Later that same evening, in east Tehran, the Basiji headquarters building was set ablaze. The protesters/rioters are becoming more emboldened, as they now only have two choices, end the regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran, or face a future with no hope for a better life.

The events of the past week are truly historic, and match or exceed the rioting that led to the IRI in 1979. This is no small matter, and if it continues, and spreads throughout the country, which appears to be happening, this hellish system of government will end. What it will be replaced with is a matter of conjecture, the first step is to rid Iran of the mullahs.

How would I react if someone murdered one of my daughters? I would give my life to gain retribution, and would not rest until the people responsible for this were dead or punished, or both, in alphabetical order or not. I can’t begin to imagine the fear and pain Neda’s family must be experiencing. Their lives have been shattered by a bullet fired from a hired thug, working for the mullahs. I have weapons and training, Mr. Salehi doesn’t, and that makes a significant difference in what his options are for seeking justice for his daughter.

As for the protesters, now that they know, with no reservations, that they can be killed on a whim, at any moment, I hope that they get more serious in their attacks, and start mobbing armed police and Basiji, taking their weapons and communications. Until the barrels of the guns are turned in the right direction, the Iranian people will never know freedom, or the dignity they deserve as humans.

I will close with a lovely poem written for Neda, that was sourced to me by a poster, “Ma Sands.”
Sister, have a short sleep. your last dream be sweet.

Yesterday I wrote a note, with the subject line “tomorrow is a great day perhaps tomorrow I’ll be killed.” I’m here to let you know I’m alive but my sister was killed…

I’m here to tell you my sister died while in her father’s hands
I’m here to tell you my sister had big dreams…
I’m here to tell you my sister who died was a decent person… and like me yearned for a day when her hair would be swept by the wind… and like me read “Forough” [Forough Farrokhzad]… and longed to live free and equal… and she longed to hold her head up and announce, “I’m Iranian”… and she longed to one day fall in love to a man with a shaggy hair… and she longed for a daughter to braid her hair and sing lullaby by her crib…

my sister died from not having life… my sister died as injustice has no end… my sister died since she loved life too much… and my sister died since she lovingly cared for people…

my loving sister, I wish you had closed your eyes when your time had come… the very end of your last glance burns my soul….

sister have a short sleep. your last dream be sweet.

God be with you Neda. May the memory of your short life give strength to those who want freedom, just as you did.

*If any choose to, the following video is of the last fifteen seconds of Neda’s life.

AG Holder proposes updated hate crime legislation

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

WASHINGTON (AP) – Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday that recent killings show the need for a tougher U.S. hate crimes law to stop “violence masquerading as political activism.”
[....]
The violence, he said, “reminds us of the potential threat posed by violent extremists and the tragedy that ensues when reasoned discourse is replaced by armed confrontation.”

In order to stop that violence, he said, Congress should pass an updated version of hate crimes legislation, in order to more effectively prosecute those who commit violent attacks based on gender, disability, or sexual orientation.
[....]
“We will not tolerate murder, or the threat of violence, masquerading as political activism,” Holder said. “So let me be clear, the Justice Department will use every tool at its disposal to protect the rights ensured under our Constitution.”

I haven’t seen any violence masquerading as political activism, unless he is talking about ELF or the Weather Underground and Bill Ayers or the Rev Wright. These latest acts of violence have not been condoned by the conservative movement masquerading as political activism.

Last time I checked, murder was illegal. But that doesn’t stop people from committing it. Then how is this new legislation going to change that? Is the Nazi going to say, “I would kill that nonwhite guy but I don’t want to be charged with a ‘hate crime’?”

And why can’t violent acts against any person just be a crime, why does acts against minorities garner special attention? We all know only white guys can be haters, so a violent act committed by them against one of these groups will be charged with a more severe crime then say if a gay guy commits the same act against them. How is that equal protection under the law?
