Seriously, it is a bit sad that they feel the need to take this oath. Not that they shouldn’t take it, but this is representative of how much the proggies have debased our country. It is high time we kick their asses.

yep. Blue Helmet == target. We can take care of ourselves without them. One of the things that worries me about the Copenhagen conference that is coming up. I have no problem at all envisioning the Obama Administration signing on to a treaty that fucks America six ways from Sunday. I don’t know that he could get such a treaty through the Senate. It would probably be like when clinton signed Kyoto. Not even the Democrats (with the exception of a handful of radicals) would go along with that attack on the American economy.

If it is supposed to represent the Obama Administration, well, that would be a massive turn-around from the Obama cheerleading squad that ABC was part of this time last year. Unless they really fuck the story up it would be a major understatement to call that scathingly harsh. In the original series, the aliens came to earth to bring peace and love so they could use humans as a supply of meat.

I’m a huge Obama critic, and even I would find that to be a little over the top. If it is, though, I’ll probably love the show. I intend to watch it tonight. It’s the first TV series I have planned on watching since I gave up on BSG.

Sigh… Please…. The series V has nothing to do with current politics. It takes at least two years to get a production like this ready to show on the air. If anything it is a slam against the Bush administration, most likely not even that, just a remake of a very popular 1984 SciFi TV series.

  101. 101 | November 3, 2009 5:25 am

For decades, a rule of thumb in Washington has said that there should be popular support and a bipartisan majority before approving an initiative that significantly affects tens of millions of Americans. Health-care reform—ObamaCare—has neither, yet Democrats want to impose it anyway. If they succeed, the consequences could be devastating for the country and probably for the president and his party.

The reasoning behind the rule is simple. Forcing drastic change on an unwilling public is likely to cause national disunity, stir angry protests, increase political polarization, and deepen distrust of Washington. But if popular opinion and both political parties support the change, discord will be minimal.

    Just common sense

I was trying to imagine what it must be like to be a young woman knowing that your own father could and would KILL you, in any brutal way because, for example, your skirt might be a couple of inches too short.

The health care bill headed for a vote in the House this week costs $1.2 trillion or more over a decade, according to numerous Democratic officials and figures contained in an analysis by congressional budget experts, far higher than the $900 billion cited by President Barack Obama as a price tag for his reform plan.

While the Congressional Budget Office has put the cost of expanding coverage in the legislation at roughly $1 trillion, Democrats added billions more on higher spending for public health, a reinsurance program to hold down retiree health costs, payments for preventive services and more.

    Who didn’t see this coming.

Lt. Col. Tyrus Cassius “TC” McQueen: My maker was some geek in a lab

Priest: In times of war we must all make peace with our maker.
Lt. Col. Tyrus Cassius “TC” McQueen: Well, I dont think our maker
wants to hear from me right now. Because he know Im going to go

You only have to go back to the Clinton Administration to see why some people feel this kind of step is necessary. There is every indication that the Clinton Administration was considering something along those lines. some Marines at 29 Palms were asked if they’d fire on Americans in order to enforce a disarmament order. This was after the Waco Massacre, and during the “Assault Weapons Ban” debate.

Understandably, people freaked. The AWB passed, and the people threw the Democrats out. No Democrat House and Senate, no new laws to send the military in to enforce.

Nobody trusts the Democrats on gun control. With good reason. The Democrats have been trying to disarm their opponents since Reconstruction. FDR got the most gun control through, followed by LBJ. If you’ve been reading my posts, you’ll know I’m not impressed with the Republicans on the isseu, either. I think it is safe to say that there is an enormous amount of distrust in the country on the issue. That is why gun and ammunition sales have been at record high levels since last year’s elections.

If the military and police explicitly saying that they will not enforce such laws helps prevent them from being passed in the first place, that is good. No good can come of gun control laws. Only the loss of freedom that will be nearly impossible to regain.

They cannot come right out and admit what they are doing, they are cowards. They know the American people will never buy off on what they really want to do, so, like most liberals, they have to couch it in lawyerese, and then blatantly lie about what they are really doing.

By that time, it will be time for mid-term elections, and we can complete the sweep.

    @ RIX:

Roe v. Wade is bad law, no doubt about that. It wasn’t even really the Fourth Amendment that they ruled on, merely the “penumbras and emmanations” of the Constitution. Had they made it a 9th and/or 10th Amendment decision it would be sounder. Where, exactly, in the Constitution does the right of the federal government to regulate abortion come from? Nowhere that I see. States have more rights in this area, but the 9th Amendment should surely be proof against that. Had the Court made that decision, I would be more comfortable with it.

make no mistake, I think abortion is almost always wrong. I think there are serious health consequences, both emotional/mental and physical, from it. I think the States should have broad power when it comes to protecting minors in this area (why is it easier for a 15 year old girl to get an abortion than it is to pierce her naval or get a tattoo?). But in general I don’t approve of the State forbidding something simply because it is bad for me, or is a sin, or whatever. There has to be a very compelling State interest in any such restrictions, and even there the Constitution trumps most State interests. Or it should.

I call that the “ammo waster”. I’ve tried them, and the thing is that you can’t really aim and use it. You have to relax your hold on the weapon and let the recoil rock your finger back and forth across the trigger. You can do the same thing with a really light trigger pull. I used to know a woman who had a racegun with a 1oz. trigger pull. It wasn’t much different than the device you are talking about, but with it you could still aim. She was a better shot than me, too :-)

Don’t get me wrong. My statement is one of those ‘how times change’ questions. Back then, the Founders were quite knowledgable about the printing press, which, while not as fst as a modern copier, could print out pages a heck of a lot faster than the monks of the Middle Ages could hand-copy them. Or horses and and dirt paths versus automobiles and interstates. Lots of things they could not foresee, but they did an admirable job trying to do so. When the Consitution was passed, slavery and indentured servitude existed; now they don’t. Things change, and I often wonder what they would think of the changes, and how those changes would have affected their decisions, if at all. I do think some changes would have been affected, but I just don’t know which ones, given the various personalities involved at the time. No matter what changes they would have made, they still would not require the mandatory purchase of a service, health insurance.

Yes indeed, the spin of “these elections don’t mean anything” will be starting fast and furious today. Of course, if the Democrats get in (YIKES) then it will immediately be spun as a bolster for Zero’s policies.

I live in the California 10th District, where I will be voting for David Harmer when I get home from work. I’m allowed to take off early to vote and that’s exactly what I’m planning to do. I find it the height of hypocrisy that the Democratic machine, which hammered conservative Tom McClintock for moving back to his home town’s Congressional District to run for the seat (and thank goodness he won!), has apparently no problem at all running a candidate for the 10th district who will not even be able to vote for himself today because he lives in District 3.

The founders did foresee everything. They have an amendment process to make changes to the constitution. Of course the amendment process is difficult as its supposed to be…

I think the Court rendered a public policy decision based upon the perceived inequities in the Federalism patchwork of abortion laws. (How’s that for covering the bases of your position?) If there was such a hue and cry for abortion, then as MikeA states, they should have gone the Amendment route. While that is slower, it is more sure. If the momentum was there for abortion, it would have passed, just as the momentum was there for the right for 18-year-olds to vote was passed as an Amendment.

The Court should be very wary of legislating social policy from the bench; that’s what Amendments are for. Because when they do legislate social policy, like in the Plessy vs. Ferguson case, they make bad law which can last for decades.

That was interesting. I forwaded the link to my Girlfriend, whom I am trying to educate about the Second Amendment. That is one way they might try and slide in gun control and get around the Second Amendment. They don’t forbid anyone from having anything, so nothing is infringed. It’s just if you excercize your freedoms they’ll fine you or put you in jail.

That’s really the way it is now. You can have a machinegun or sawed-off shotgun, but if they catch you with it you’ll go to prison. Feh.

Another way they may try and do this is through treaty law. I don’t think it has ever been definitively decided whether or not a treaty can trump the Constitution. I don’t for a minute believe that the gun controllers are going to say “Aw shucks, the Supreme Court ruled our pet legislation unconstitutional, and the voters don’t like it either. Time to get a new hobby”.

No, I don’t believe that for a minute.
