Comments

Comments and respectful debate are both welcome and encouraged.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

Any thoughts on this new theme? Things to fix? Things to add? Things to get rid off?

    General comments?

Am I racist for showing the General Lee?

No but how about some eye candy for the ladies??

As for thoughts, maybe change the background color to more of a cream color. I am probably the only person this bothers but I wear sunglasses when it’s cloudy  (And as much as I post, you can tell it doesn’t bother me TOO much!!)
Other than that I love it!
I particularly like the “get involved” section!

    @ WrathofG-d:

    Ok, since you asked.

Before I begin, if these have already been addressed, then nevermind.

    Love the new theme.

    Please:

Add a “jump to bottom” button or link.

Change the CSS to have all links non-underlined!

Have the reply to someone else’s post refer to the number of their post to. If possible.

I am glad of the size of the avatars, the ones from…. that other place were too small. (I know, bandwidth)

That’s just off the top of my head.

Mammoth job, I doff my chapeau to those behind the scenes.

    Looks, well,…it looks classy!

Now for a quick question for the fishers and hunters out there:

What is a Baracuda’s favorite food?

    Ans: “Rino”

    2nd favorite?

    Ans: Donkey.

    Heh.

Seriously, though: I really, really do like the new design. Job well done.

If I had any suggestion, it would be to link up with “Pauley the Patriot” and have it posted here once in a while. Kind of like Cox & Forkum at another site that I knew of that is now long since gone.

I’m so pissed about that Muslim aggression in NYC. These fucks are just testing the waters. It’s not about booze. They don’t have to go in the restaurant. This is a power play, that’s all. It goes according to plan.
They push just to see what they can get away with. And if they gain ground, they push for more. What will they attack next.?Nice dress shops because western fashion offends the “religious” values of men who want their hags in bags. Eventually, if not STOPPED in their tracks they will completely obliterate every wonderful thing in the world except the backward was of their own hideous screed.

At the risk of beating the drum repeatedly, I would like to remind people that what we are seeing is the difference between the concept of civil rightsprotection from the government by the “negative rights” our President dislikes—and the concept of “human rights,” which are the so-called “positive rights” which he favors.

However, those so-called “positive rights” are the antithesis of the concept of liberty protected by civil rights, as they are in effect special rights granted as a favor (or withheld) by the government.

That wasn’t exactly what I was referring to; I was referencing, more, the “human rights” mindset of the Muslims who “don’t want to be offended” by a nearby bar, and the right of the bar owners to tell them to piss off, in the previous thread.

However, the government getting into the business of decreeing what is or is not a “benefit,” which you mention, is another aspect of the problem of creeping “human rights” thought. I can understand—-could even support, in theory, in the abstract—the concept of the government providing health insurance for those who can prove themselves unable to obtain it for themselves. But we have that; it’s called “Medicaid,” last I looked—and it’s on the verge of bankruptcy.

The government taking it upon itself to force people to make decisions that they may not want to make is a complete changeover to the “human rights” view that rights come from the government, and that we therefore owe duties to the government.

I collect switchblades. I’ve got, I don’t know 6-7 of them. I have two very nice Italian ones that I imported as camping tools. I bought both of them here. The two I have are high end, with damascus blades (which they don’t sell anymore). I have a Smith and Wesson one that I bought at a show. Technically, only police, fire department, military, etc. can legally buy them. This one, well, a cop at the show bought it with mooney I gave him, and he gave me the knife. I couldn’t buy it, but he could give it to me. Hokey, I know :-)

My favorite is a CRKT Pharaoh. It is a big knife with a truly wicked blade.

Technically, like I said, switchblades are restricted. How restricted, though, depends on the state and local laws, and the whim of any cop that catches you with one. In California you can carry any knife as long as the blade is under 2″, including switchblades. I’ve got a little one I bought out there as a carry knife while I was in California. Here, the blade has to be under 4″, but carrying a switchblade is a feloney. However, you are allowed to have them as a collector.

They can get quite pricey. I want to get a Microtech out-the-front knife, but they are in the $300-400 range. I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

I came back for election season and found Zombie doing incredible work.

    So I backed out again.
Look in every few days, but I have no time for 1000 post threads ( got work to do)
So the other day I was fidgity. Went and argued about AGW with that Quixote fellow.

Saw the posts where (former) fearless leader really didn’t seem to get it about the Holdren report or The Anita Dunn thing. And the whole AGW deal, and “wingnuts” .
Looked at ACE, and several others, and tried to get a handle on what might be behind whatever.
The entire thing is topsy turvy.
Then I saw “the list”. Aha…
Names on that list and some searches to see their last posts ( cept for Buzz he been nuked) really convinced me that there s a tightrope I do not care to walk. A club I do not want to be part of that badly.

They have 30 seconds to a minute on TV, and only a few inches of print for print media. E-media has fewer excuses as bandwidth is cheap.

But the media have their agenda. It is up to you to see through the slant and get something to base your positions on. Read. A lot. The more you know, the more you can see the pieces that the MSM leave missing. Take the Palestinian Question.

Hold right there. What stands out about that sentance? What biases does it expose? Does it indicate what kind of slant I might put on a discussion of the “Palestinian Question”? Note the words chosen. You may remember that the Nazis program of extermination was called the Final Solution to the “Jewish Question”.

See what I mean? My choice of words screams my strong, strong support of Israel and a very hard line towards the Palestinians. Watch for clues like that. They are almost always there, kind of like flaws and inclusions in real diamonds.

I think it’s fairly easy to tell fact from opinion. I read a story today: “Louisville, Kentucky, police released two Chicago men of Palestinian descent from jail when the white powder found in their car turned out to be dried yogurt, which is common in Middle East countries. The men had told police for two days that’s what it was.”

The facts of the story are that the police found white powder, checked to see if it was something illegal, and after the tests cleared it, released the suspects. Sounds reasonable. The opinion is wrapped up in the way it is written: those yokel Kentuckian Barney-Fife police don’t even know Middle Eastern food, because they’re such yokels you see. And probably racists, who stubbornly didn’t just take the suspects’ word for it.

OK, I’ve got a question for you folks. With all the media that’s out there, how do you determine who’s writing stuff that is more fact-based information as opposed to just the opinion of the writer/tv station/paper? Is there ANY info presented by the media today that is unbiased and straight facts, in your opinion? It seems almost everybody has their own slant.…

Information is the key. Knowing what is going on locally in ones town or state is discussed here sans the national topical slant the news has to offer.

If you have noticed issues that are relevant to the locality of many posters are tossed to and fro here, but not all the time.

Is there anywhere where one can get unadulterated information on the goings-on of our country and the world?

Now that is one good question. I would suggest finding a blog or news outlet that is filled with those who think like that.

I realize that one can click on the blue nic in a comment that’s been quoted to see what comment number it is but it would be nice to also see the number of the quoted to or replied to comment without having to click on it.

I think it would also be nice if the comment number in general that appears next to the avatars was slightly larger in proportion to the rest of the text.

Fair comment. I’m an expat. Came to Wisconsin about three years ago on a pipeline project and settled in. In Western Wisconsin the Packers Vikings game is a BIG deal, believe me. Well, like you say, it’s just a new theme – a sideways move. Everyone’s got their own aesthetics. I don’t see any new functionality that wasn’t already there in the old theme that wasn’t just turned off to mitigate unresponsiveness. Absent a dedicated $erver, I’d opt for spartan/responsive vs., e.g., embedded youtube vids. Not sure why we had to roll our own theme (and then the on-going debug), there’s approximately a zillion+1 WS themes already out there.

Things to fix: comment numbers in replied-to/quoted comments, jump-to-bottom works only when logged in, Opera barfs on this thread (i’m guessing bad html vs. bad opera).

Things to add: Non-fixed-width comment column would be nice – way too much wasted space IMO; more markup options (e.g. AoS subscript, superscript, foreground color, background color, underline, special chars) would add readability (five minutes editing kses.php could effect that).

Non-trivial things to add: Comment preview, AJAXified new comments, searchable comments/users, etc.

    Just trying to be honest…

Notes Left Behind is the true story of a six-year-old girl named Elena and her battle against brain cancer. In her last days she showed a community how to love and how to live. Written through the eyes of her parents, Keith and Brooke Desserich, as a remembrance for Elena’s younger sister, her daily story tells one of humility and inspiration as she lives each day, one at a time. In her short time she painted a masterpiece that would hang in an art museum, she accomplished a truly spectacular series of wishes that she alone created, and she inspired a cause that remains today to help children everywhere in their fight against brain cancer.

Dunno about that Gravatar that Wrath is using. You’re really taking big risks using images of Muhammed like that.

    @ Eliana:

Still got the heavy cold, better than yesterday but not the rapid recovery of a normal cold. I do have some frozen chicken soup in the freezer, real stuff used to cook chicken, that might be nice to heat up.

    So how are you?

Could be when he goes away, traffic increases. Think about that for a minute.

Or maybe when they just plain out-do themselves in stupidity, more people go to see if it’s true? That would be my guess. :D

Glad to hear you’re doing a bit better! Chicken soup has been scientifically proven to help. Something about the combination of ingredients, I guess.

I’m doing fine. I’m going insane with Wordpress Plugin mania, but otherwise, I’m ok. :-)

Well, he’s like the powerful kid in the Twilight Zone episode who has people agreeing with him all day every day so that they won’t be put into the cornfield.

When the kid is away, people breathe sighs of relief and actually talk to each other about issues (at least more than they do when the kid is there threatening to put them in the cornfield if they blink).

It seems almost everybody has their own slant. Is there anywhere where one can get unadulterated information on the goings-on of our country and the world? Just curious where most of you get your info to base your opinions and (political) beliefs on…

I start either with forums and then dive into the blogosphere, taking pains to look thru the comments/replies for links, quotes, quips, observations, or other things that lead me elsewhere. Usually this will have enough references to, Ahem! “mainstream” sources that I don’t have to go there, but sometimes I’ll hop over to the WSJ or IBD or the WT to see what they have.Local stories require digging thru the muck and ads and blather of local papers sites…My own perspective goes back to supporting Barry Goldwater, so let’s just say I’m highly skeptical about the wonderfulness of “more government…”

Um, what are they going to do with all of the recipes submitted by the banshees?
One of the posters over there actually was talking about tearing the pages with recipe’s from the bannee’s!

Well, if that doesn’t define “cult,” I don’t know what does… I’d swear I posted my Pirate’s House ( Savannah ) recipe for peanut butter pie ATS ( Across The Street ) long ago, so if the Crazy Guy nuked it, he it is again:Peanut Butter Pie
    1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese ( softened )
    1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
    1 cup peanut butter
    1/4 to 1/2 cup condensed ( evaporated ) milk
1 (16 ounce) package frozen whipped topping, thawed ( dream whip, Kool whip )
2 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crusts
    Directions
1 Beat together cream cheese and confectioners’ sugar. Mix in peanut butter and milk. Beat until smooth. Fold in dessert topping.
2 Spoon into 2- 9 inch graham cracker pie shells, cover and chill. Just BTW, and FWIW- your format doesn’t have a “notify” feature like most of the places I hang around, so if you have “spoken” to me and I have not acknowledged it, I’m not ignoring you, I just haven’t “heard” you…

Any thoughts on this new theme? Things to fix? Things to add? Things to get rid off?

    General comments?

I’m not having any trouble in Opera, but am using Ubuntu OS. Maybe that makes a difference?
