Uh oh, the right wing fanatic at Renew America isn’t at all happy with the present “leadership” of the GOP,
To state the blindly obvious, the Republican Party establishment — by which I mean the network of advisers, elected office-holders, Party organs, and higher-level Party officials who primarily determine the direction in which Party policy and Party money goes — is politically tone deaf. All across this country, you have Tea Parties and town halls bursting with the frustration of the common man who is seeing himself becoming the victim of a political class that has absolutely no concern about his wants and desires. Poll after poll after poll, on every issue imaginable, show that the American people are opposed to, well, pretty much everything that Obama and the Democrats in Congress are trying to do. There is clearly an opportunity being handed to the Republican Party on a golden platter to utterly destroy the Democrats on health care, cap-and-steal, the Porkulus spending, the deficits, the war in Afghanistan, and any number of other pressing issues. For the first time that I can remember, voters have told Rasmussen that they trust Republicans more than Democrats on all ten of the “trust issues” that Rasmussen tracks — including Democrat-friendly issues like health care, education, and social security. That’s without the Republicans even really doing anything — that’s a sign of how badly people don’t like the way the Democrats are handling this government.
So what has the GOP leadership done with this extremely favorable political landscape? They’ve let it grow weeds through their inaction, and have sprayed Roundup on what little green grass remains left. Many of the Republican elected officials in Congress seem to trip over themselves in their zeal to “reach across the aisle” to accommodate Democrats, thereby giving the Evil Party bipartisan cover with which to defuse voter anger when election day comes. Instead of distancing themselves from this Obamacare monstrosity and attacking it at every turn, they’re silent (at best) or quietly finding ways to add enough stuff that they want so as to justify voting for it — witness the evil twins from Maine, one of whom (Olympia Snowe) recently voted to move one of the more egregious versions out of committee so that it is one step closer to becoming a reality.
Establishment Republicans have also taken pains to loudly and arrogantly distance themselves from those leading figures — like Sarah Palin — who speak for the conservative base and aren’t ashamed of it. For example, we see Steve Schmidt and other former McCain staffers doing their level best to pin every ill of the poorly-ran McCain campaign on Palin, accusing her of being a “drag” on the ticket. That’s a tin ear, folks. If it weren’t for Palin, McCain would not have merely lost badly, he’d have been blown out roundly. She was the only thing that even came near to salvaging that catastrophe. No, the blame for McCain’s poor showing rests with McCain himself — with his reaching across the aisle, with his telling the voters not to be afraid of an Obama presidency (???), with his out-of-step position on illegal immigration and so forth.
Yet, this leadership caste in the Republican Party looks down its nose at conservatives, viewing us with disdain. We’re not “respectable.” We don’t fit into the good ol’ boy network of backslapping, backroom deals, compromise, PAC-funded vacations, $1000-a-plate fundraisers, and nice words from the media elite. Conservatives are “scary” because they hold to moral values which would go against the way the Republican elites live, and our views on fiscal issues would hinder the elite from successfully playing the “go-along-to-get-along” game of buying votes and favor out of the public largesse.

Primaries must be closed, along with the voting reform of having a photo ID requirement. Absentee ballot reform must also be broached, making it more difficult by allowing fewer reasons for voting absentee (military and invalid are two valid reasons which spring to mind). If you can’t get your ass out of bed one day every two years to vote within a 10-12 hour window, then you have no business voting.
The ‘having the primaries on one day’ is a great idea, and one which will prevent the bus caravans of ACORN/SEIU/Dem operatives roaming across the country like a swarm of voting locusts watering down the choice of a Republican candidate (Dem lite, ie., McCain).

I sent my most recent RNC survey back with a short note on my lack of contributions since the ‘06 mid-term. I told them to stop grazing the RINOs with general fund contributions and they may see me back as a financial contributor. And further, until then I will directly support any candidate that believes and demonstrates legislatively liberal small government American ideals.
Until such time it is that and fightin’ da power by teabaggin’ and blogin’ on.
I have been invited to attend the local RNC committee meetings but have not taken the time to attend. It is mostly Chamber of Commerce level stuff, so there is not a lot I can add. However, my neighbor is an active tea sacker (went to 9-12), and has invited me to the State Capital for an event. I plan on being there…..what else can me….not a hell of a lot until the elections.
Which brings me to tommorow. In races that are not consequential to me, I will be writing in a few suggestions on the ballot about what the DNC can do with Dear Leader.
Oh, come on now Phoenix
Our”leadership” is pathetic. If they would do the job they are being paid (and paid well) to do, they’d e setting things up to blow the donks out of the water next year. Hell, this year. It is looking like the Donks may get a harsh reality-check without competant Republican leadership. NY-23 should be a reality check for both parties. we on the Right are willing to stand and fight. we are waiting for someone to lead us. Sarah Palin may very well be that person. She is the only bright spot in a pantheon grown dim and weak. If Hoffman wins (please, God) the whole game table is overturned.
If the Republican leadership can’t lead, they should get out of the way. America is a Center-Right country. We are, in general, for liberty, capitalism, smaller government (in theory), God and Country (you’d never catch a Donk saying he/she supports God and Country),and so forth. I say “in theory” on smaller government because everyone wants a handout from Uncle Sugar these days. Look at what Bush did with prescription drugs for the elderly. I am paying taxes so that Ted Kennedy wouldn’t have to pay for his meds. Word up, dude, but I pay over $300 a month for my pharmacopia. Why should I also pay for some rich guy’s drugs simply because he has lived longer than me (that is a fixable problem)?
The Republicans are missing all kinds of oppertunities. Blindingly obvious oppertunities like gun control (Americans hate it) and gay marriage (not even in California). By tacking Left they are trying to get votes that they can never get while pissing in the face of people who have been their most loyal supporters. The key to winning elections for both parties is to maximize their voter turnout. Sure, appealing to a larger segment of voters can help in this, but only so far as it doesn’t start suppressing turnout among voters whose vote you already had.
This isn’t fucking rocket science. You don’t need an advanced degree in physics to understand my point. Hell, I’d bet most fifth graders would get it if I explained it that way, but the Republican leadership doesn’t get it. They don’t want to get it. And they seem quite content to be in the minority if that is what it takes for them to continue neglecting their core constituancy.
Israel’s offer to restrain settlement expansion is an unprecedented and positive step but still falls short of Washington’s wishes, U.S.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Monday.
“The Israelis have responded to the call of the U.S., the Palestinians and the Arab world to stop settlement activity by expressing a willingness to restrain settlement activity,” she told reporters in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh.

I remember the first time during the election when I got a shiver that Zero might actually win. CJ played a video of all the candidates, Hillary and all the GOP pols seeking the nomination. All had adopted Zero’s word “Change.” I knew then that they had been looking at Zero, thinking that what he was hauling was the prize.
They adopted his snake oil strategy, when they could have used this vague and empty word “Change” against him.
Zero never explained what “change” meant. The Republicans could have jumped on that and said Zero means “Destruction.” Change for the sake of change is absurd.
The point is the Rinos had nothing. They had no confidence. No enthusiasm. So they scrambled to get on Zero’s momentum. We can’t be defensive anymore. We need to lead with basic conservative principles.
Sarah enumerated them. Small gov’t, low taxes, strong military and emphasis on the individual and the Constitution. That simple message is all we need to get out plainly to the public.

You have Candidates A, B, C, D & E running. Your first pick is ‘C’, your second is ‘B’. ‘C’ doesn’t do well, but ‘B’ is running a close 2nd at the end of the first round. His ‘2nd choice’ votes are added in, as are all votes for whoever the first place finisher was, and that determines the ultimate winner.

Happy birthday! Here, have some nice mead.
Back to the subject — one problem is that Congress and the Senate- and their staffs – are topheavy with lawyers. Not that some lawyers aren’t needed, but the predominance of lawyers means that measures like tort reform, or sunsetting laws, or even refraining from writing and passing unnecsary laws becomes impossible — because law is what lawyers do. They have more empathy for the ambulance chasers like Sen. John Edwards & et al than they do for the citizen whose paycheck ultimately has to pay for their big wins in court. RINOS are very much part of this culture, particulary with regard to the lawyerly obsession with doing deals.
RINOS are also, like their Dem counterparts, increasingly careerists. Since the Sixties they have gone to college with the idea of eventually “going into politics” and moving from the House to the Senate to a Governorship to the Presidency. The concept of “Service to the Constituency” or “Service to the nation” is corny and naive to them. It’s all about them and their egos and how much power they can personally amass. BHO is the exemplar of this type of modern politician, as were the RINOs who replaced Gingrich and DeLay and were booted out in 2006.
To them we are a bunch of ingnorant, unsophisticated yahoos who don’t understand what’s important — that is, them and their little friends.
Rodan wrote:
Rodan, I still have to say that I think these are kind of spurious arguments, or at least they rely on spurious caricatures of conservatives.
Exactly how do conservatives want to “run peoples’ lives”? Pretty much the two main issues of interest to even overtly religious conservatives are abortion and gay marriage – both of which are public issues that rightly involve a public response to them. There’s isn’t a really solid libertarian case to be made for the leftist position on either of these issues.

Libertarians believe Government should not be involved in people’s personal lives or preach morality. This can appeal to some Democrat voters who agree with the GOP’s Economic and Defense positions. By taking Social Issues off the table in Liberal areas, the Left’s Control agenda can be exposed. The Left promotes Radical transformation of society. To achieve this they pretend to approve of people’s personal privacy. In reality they are using this to enact a stealth agenda. I say let’s call them on it.

@ Rodan:
Social Conservatism does not appeal to everyone that is the truth.
I agree – but that’s a far cry from saying that the GOP shouldn’t talk about such issues.
Fact – the public mood on abortion is swinging WAY towards the pro-life position, and has been since Obama took office. People saw what a tru, hard-core pro-abortionist (rather than a mealy-mouthed “I’m against it personally”) fanatic looks like, and they don’t like it.
Fact – a strong majority across this country oppose gay marriage, and if the GOP has any hope of actually making inroads with blacks and Latinos, then being viewed as a big-tent party that embraces gay marriage is the last thing they want to do.
Let’s face it – liberal parts of the country are that way for a reason. We need to accept that there are parts of this country where a GOP which is anything at all approximate to what we want it to be is simply not going to make inroads. If we try to be everything to all people, we end right back up where we’re at now – a party full of RINOs that half the base doesn’t want to vote for. Not a smart electoral strategy.
Besides, I am not at all convinced that “libertarian” candidates will be able to make the inroads in liberal areas that you think they will. Liberals are liberals for a reason – they hold to a particular set of interrelated worldviews which mutually reinforce each other. A person who is liberal on social issues is usually also liberal on fiscal and defence issues – because of values they hold within that worldview framework. Libertarian candidates will have only minimal impact on that, and their positive impact in bringing in some lefties may in fact be mitigated by their negative impact in driving away base voters.
I prefer a strategy that seems a lot like yours, but has some subtle differences – I call it the Australian Strategy for Conservative Victory. We need to tailor the message to the district, as you say, but we do so using conservative candidates for the most part who, depending on their district, may or may not be vocal about social issues. That way, you have solid conservatives in who will then have an incumbency advantage, without the detraction of having a bunch of libertarians who might decide to break ranks on defence issues (where a lot of libertarians are noticeably moonbatish) or social issues.
@ Rodan:
You aren’t going to win nationally on a pro-abortion platform. The pro-aborts belong to the Democrats. The Republicans need to do some things to truly differentiate themselves from the Democrats, and they need to make sure that everyone realizes how radical they are.
And the Republicans really need to energize their base. Until they are turning out their entire base they don’t need to worry about expanding the party.

I’m not calling for a Pro-Abortion platform, not all. There are parts of the country where the Pro-Life message doesn’t fly becasue they view it as a personal decision issue. I say call there bluffs in those districts, say OK who Cares about abortion. Then go after their Progressive ideas.
@ tqcincinnatus:
I disagree many people vote Liberal/Progressive not because of economics, but because the Left is perceived to protect personal freedoms. This is not true off course and those people can flip if they don’t feel Government will interfere in their personal lives. I’ve came across many who would vote GOP but have been brainwashed into thinking the GOP will get involved in their personal lives. Take away that fear and they flip GOP.

We conservatives and conservative candidates nationwide need to make the 2010 mid-terms a referendum on Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and all the other America-hating radicals running the Congress and openly serving in The Zero’s™ administration.
Just as the radical left was able to sieze control of the DNC from the supposedly more moderate “Clinton wing”, we need to do the same thing.
There was a gallup poll that was released a week or two ago showing that the majority of Americans were much more conservative than they were liberal- 40% conservative, 37% moderate, and 20% liberal, with only 5% of that 20% calling themselves extrememly liberal.

AKA “small-l: libertarians.
You’re completely right. That’s the message that’s going to resonate with the culture in the short run. The socon message is a much longer term project. Socons have a daunting task similar to that which faced the communists in the ’20s. They literally have to make a project of changing the culture itself. That’s going to take at least a generation, maybe two.
In the mean time, those of us who want a free economy need a strategy to win. Making the millineal generation understand the importance of personal liberty, particularly in the economic sphere, is the only way that’s going to happen.
Of course, that’s mostly a coastal reality. As you say, in flyover, there’s a different culture, and the socon message will work there. Interestingly, the only democrat demographic which just might respond positively to the socon message is minorities; particularly Blacks and Hispanics. If there’s any chance of peeling them away from the donkeys, that’s the way it’s going to be done.

Zero will be in the lead, pumping his skinny legs and yelling unintelligible platitudes.
@ snork:
You nailed it!!!!!!!!
These playboy types would vote GOP in a heart beat if in their areas the Social agenda is off the table.@ snork:
Hispanics can and have in places like Texas responded to Social Conservatism. We are a natural constituency for teh SoCon agenda.
As for Blacks, it’s a lot tougher although they maybe Socially Conservative that are economically and Foreign policy wise Progressive. However So Con agenda is the way to begin making inroads.
They are only economically progressive until they are successful.
This is why the progressives tend to “giveaways” ie handing out fish instead of teaching someone to fish.
@ chickadee: Next thing is who the heck had the idea of supporting this lib broad, what are their names and what do they have to do with the republican party. they surely aren’t of our political pursuasion and if they are holding elected republican positions they should be voted down and out immediately. right?

@ Rodan:
to both you and TQC. This is one of the reasons I push so hard for the Republicans to lead on the gun control issue. They really have nothing to lose and everything to gain. The majority of Americans believe in the Second Amendment. Hell, the majority of Americans who are old enough to vote own guns. right now the GOP is content to do nothing but quietly let it be assumed that they would vote en masse against any gun control legislation. Combined with the Blue Dogs who have explicitly said “Hell no!” on the issue, the Donks know better than to bring it up.
This is good enough to keep an “A” rating from the NRA, but it isn’t going to energize the base. It is, in fact, the absolute minimum that they could do to not piss off the base. People won’t turn out to vote against them, but if their Democrat opposition makes the right noises people won’t turn out to vote for them, either. That is how, BTW, the Donks took the House and Senate in 2006. Lots of semi-conservative Democrats were elected in normally Republican districts. That is also the big reason that Pelousie and Reid can’t just ram Obamacare through. These Blue Dogs would vote against it.
A crushing bipartisan defeat for the Administration would be inconceivably bad from their viewpoint (I’d pass out candy).
Because of these Blue Dogs, the Republicans have a precious oppertunity to craft pro-Second Amendment legislation and pass it with bipartisan majorities. Dare Obama to veto it. Either way, the Republicans win. There are two places that would be a good start. They could attack DC for not complying with the Heller decision and they could go after US v. Cruikshank (a case during Reconstruction that permitted the KKK to disarm freed slaves under the guise of crime prevention. Sound familiar?). Both of these are really low hanging fruit. What is there to oppose? The Congress orders DC to abide by a Supreme Court ruling and repudiates the Klan. These would pass by huge majorities, and Obama wouldn’t dare veto them.
And the Republicans go into next year with a massive victory on their plate, an energized base, and a platform to outreach to true moderate Democrats and independants that won’t lose them votes they currently have. It is all right there for the taking. All the Republicans have to do is find the balls to stand and deliver.

I couldn’t agree more. They have to go. The Rinos up there in the 23rd district “selected” her.
There was no primary. That has to make some people very angry .
apachegunner wrote:
Others correct me if I am wrong, but I got the impression since she was running with the R beside her name he endorsed her. Plus I think he thought she was the only kind that could win there ie a DemLite.
That was my take of it anyway.
Sorry for ruining your day…..

Hi everyone. Greetings and salutations.
@ typicalwhitey:
Shame on them, all of them. If this was a Republican, this would be covered wall-to-wall.
The blame is ours alone.
Middle America, Football fans, NASCAR fans, Baseball fans, Church people, Honkey Tonk people, working people, farm, ranch, small buss people, not enough of us get up off our ass’s and go vote.
We are America, only we do not vote like we give a shit.

I don’t see it working. hmm.

This is what happens when a cult of ‘professional political elite’ take over a political party and manipulate it not for the common good but for narrow personal advantage. The so called RINOs are nothing more than latter day ‘carpet baggers’ sucking on the teat of the Republican party. Their arrogance and unbridled sense of entitlement would be awe inspiring if it were not so revolting. These corrupt individuals who use the ’system’ to their own advantage are a pox on any party and especially so in a party that once had policies and a culture based on conservative values.
These corrupt narcissists need to be uprooted and thrown on the scrap heap of history, and the sooner the better. The road back to an America envisioned by the Founders of the nation begins with a thorough house cleaning of the Republican party which after all is the natural party of power in the US because the US remains a basically conservative electorate. Once the RNC and party is cleansed then it will sweep the corrupt and terminally philosophically compromised Democratic party from the levers of power for a generation.
If that does not happen then expect a third party to arise and rip the heart out of the GOP, so that forever more the GOP will have to indulge itself in coalition politics if it ever wishes to govern again.
@ Iron Fist:
The ‘fly in that particular ointment’ Rodan is the fact that the professional politicians of the RNC and GOP ask themselves. “Should i put my head up and look over the parapet or should i just stay down here and keep my nose fully immersed in the public trough sucking up $$$$s and privilege like crazy?”
I think we both know the answer to that question!
