    LMAO!

Oh wait- you really think liberals are the adults and conservatives are children, don’t you?

    Bwahahaha!

Wingnuts are children, but how dare people on the right question the patriotism of those adults on the left. This is far from an accurate characterization- of both sides, since no one here except you thinks teh left iz perfek. I loved your back peddling at the end so you could give yourself wiggle room should anyone dare criticize your brilliance (not all conservatives- just wingnuts!) except you didn’t use wingnuts throughout, did you? Since I know you check your dings obsessively, I will tell you why I dinged you down- it’s called “projection”.

Barbara Boxer apparently holds meetings on the streets of Oakland, according to her companions, who didn’t want to allow a constituent with a camera to question Senator Ma’am on policy in Afghanistan. Boxer finally responds long enough to insist that Congress will not allow more troops to go into Afghanistan, which then prompts the question of whether we should keep troops there at all if we’re not going to fight to win there. Boxer walks away, even though the constituent calls her “Senator” … repeatedly:

Hmmm. Not sure what to make of the comments layout. I think I prefer the old look. At least on the old Wordpress layout I could instantly see who made each comment. Now the nics are tiny and to the side. And everything has underlines and is in blue. Is that something that is being worked out?

I don’t mean to be critical of anything or anyone’s work. Just throwing my two cents out there.

I see… the underlining is a temporary glitch.

The new header and footer look great. I love seeing Ronald Reagan.

May I make a suggestion? Have you tried putting the script for “The Blogmocracy” in black? That way, the ink blots will look a bit more… well… ink-blotty.

There seems to be a problem with the quote plugin I was using. I am wondering if it is because there is a bug with it (which I didn’t encounter in my own testing) or if it was because we switched midstream and caused some malformed HTML as a result.

    re: #27 iceweasel

That in particular is kind of brilliant.

It’s been said that the difference between the way conservatives love their country and the way liberals love their country is this: conservatives love America like a young child loves Mommy; everything Mommy does must always be right, and anyone criticising Mommy is evil.
Liberals meanwhile love their country like an adult: they love it passionately but can still see its flaws, and believe that making it better (and becoming better) is part of what love is.

This is a pretty partisan way of putting it, and I don’t think it captures reality, but the bit about conservatives does capture a bit of how the deranged wingnut type on the right thinks– the kind of people who think antiwar protesters must hate their country. (It’s not an accurate characterisation of all conservatives IMO, let me say, just the deranged wingnut type, before people freak out and think I’m arguing that)

I was taken by surprise when mine showed up automatically. I had selected the photo, cropped it, rated it and then I didn’t know what to do after that. I closed the gravatar site, signed on to Blogmocracy and bingo! The avatar was up and running. I thought it would be more complicated than that but instead it was amazingly simple.

You’ll note that there is very little downdinging anymore. Use to be an unpopular comment got you 5 or 10 downers…. and then blocked.
The ones left are afraid to say anything that may constitute a major disagreement with the group.
Note also that the overnight threads used to be active with overseas commenters, ( a lot of them Israeli), now its dead quiet until MM wakes up.
Lastly, while there are still several thousand comments on a good day, they all come from the same 20 commenters on the same 3 subjects over and over. Even the space and music posts get just a few comments.

Nothing interesting left at all. However, it’s all to the good of 4 or 5 other blogs including this one.

The evil isn’t in the dings per say. The evil is in making the dingers public. What he’s done is the equivalent of card check. If it were anonymous, I don’t think we’d get all this politics and drama, but when you know who’s dinging you, you’re asking for war.

If the dings weren’t public, I think you’d have a very different dynamic. Of course, the proprietor would still know, and that’s another source of evil.

I think I have most of the immediate tweaking done for now, which hasn’t been too bad. We aren’t finished with things though. We’ll have to do things in stages.

I donated my time and expertise because I felt like this community deserved it, and because I could. I’m tired of people talking down conservatism, and people painting conservatives with a brush the size of the space shuttle. This is my way of giving back, and I will continue to be available to advance this community however I can.

I do thank everyone for the commentary on the design. The design is just a candy shell. The real treat are the people that make this a great place.

With that said I am about to check out and watch some football for a while. I’ll check in later to help stomp out any bugs or weirdness that needs unweirding.

    @ snork:

I disagree. The dings end up doing little more than promoting groupthink. You ultimately end up with an endless karma measuring contest. How many discussions over there degenerate into who has the most comments, been registered the longest, or has the most karma? If you fail to toe the party line, you get dinged. Eventually you end up with an echo chamber where that anyone with a viewpoint counter to the prevailing one gets piled on.

    @ chickadee:

Charles and I generally seemed to get along. We exchanged a couple of emails when I did the colors (he, naturally, was given one. Those of us that got them paid a little extra to cover it so as I didn’t take the whole hit), and he seemed pleased. Ironically, he mentioned that he’d shown them to Robert Spencer who liked them. That was when Robert Spencer was golden at LGF.

Times change. The first conflict I had with him was during a disagreement I had with KKKilgore Trout (surprise! You didn’t see that one coming, did you?) over the Waco Massacre. Trout was being his usual charming self, gloating over 80 men, women, and children being burned alive (that was deliberate, but not as the government put it out. They didn’t go in there with flamethrowers, but they did run over a lantern to start the fire. I’ve seen the FLIR tapes myself). Surprisingly, I kept my cool (or not surprisingly. People who know me know that if I’m blustering and threatening and such it is OK, but if I’m quite, polite, and reserved when I should be in a murderous rage, well that is a different kettle of fish). Charles stepped in and broke it up (at least KKKilgore didn’t call me a N*. Too bad, really. It would have been instructive to see how Charles dealt with that). It was after that that I noticed posts of mine going missing for reasons other than the dingos that occasionally eat posts, but I wasn’t terribly concerned. His blog, his rules, but he once deleted the lyrics to the song Pussy Liquor by Rob Zombie. I guess the Zombie ain’t up to his refined standards.

I never conformed, and ultimately was banned for it. I saw the ban-stick coming, but Idid start to moderate my comments. I wasn’t free to express myself, especially when it came to the Mohammedan problem. By the end, I was mostly just giving weapons advice and mild commentary. Until Charles completely lost his mind and banned me for not being suffiently gentle with Lord Obama’s dignity and refusing to say that an image man from Borneo with Obama’s face photoshopped in was evil racism because everyone knows Borneo means Africa.

If I ever know I’m going to meet Charles, I’ll have my nose pierced and wear a bone through it. Heh™

I hadn’t ever thought about it quite like that. It never occurred to me that he may have built it that way on purpose. I always thought that he just kept tweaking things and liking the results. Either way, the outcome is the same.

It’s kind of like the story from back in 2000 where the Manhattan socialite was aghast and stunned that Bush won the election as nobody she knew had voted for him. That place is about the same. A small universe that thinks it’s larger than it really is.

Quite true. Also, it was a place where the ground was always moving.

After being here for six weeks, I’ve totally forgotten what it’s like to post comments on a blog where I wonder from comment to comment if I’m going to be banned.

It was like that for me every time I wrote something on the other place. “Will this be it for me? Will I be gone in 15 seconds?”

I wasn’t even flouncing. I was just writing.
