Young Afghan boys are taken from their families, made to dance in women’s costumes, and raped by prominent men in a widespread, centuries-old practice that is disapproved of by Muslim scholars but nonetheless tolerated in that war-torn society. By their later teens, many of these boys will end up as male homosexual prostitutes earning scarce money for their families:

For nearly a half century, Medicare has enabled seniors to get that care. But ObamaCare is about to change that, by limiting what doctors can provide their aging patients.
The Senate Finance Committee health bill released last week controls doctors by cutting their pay if they give older patients more care than the government deems appropriate. Section 3003(b) (p. 683) punishes doctors who land in the 90th percentile or above on what they provide for seniors on Medicare by withholding 5 percent of their compensation.
This withhold provision forces doctors to choose between treating their patients and avoiding government penalties. HMOs used the same cost-cutting device in the early ’90s until it was deemed dangerous to patients and outlawed. Now, lawmakers want to use it against the most vulnerable patients, the elderly. This bill and four others under negotiation also would slash about $500 billion from future Medicare funding.
They assault these kids and then make them outcasts who must continue to be assaulted to make a living. They stone girls who are raped. It’s okay to kill your children if it’s an “honor” killing.

Very good observation. At the risk of being labeled a “prude,” it seems to me we have descended into pathology in the other direction.
Victorianism began as a reaction to the “loose and easy” years of the Regency (the years Lord Byron sowed his wild oats). And yet the Regency was pretty tame compared to present day society. And the “anti-sex” stance Christianity gets a bad rap for started as a revulsion against the sexual excesses of the pagans (which actually do compare to our excesses).
It’s almost impossible to imagine putting that genie back in the bottle now that it’s been out for 30+ years. But there is precedent for it. I just hope it doesn’t happen because we find ourselves living under Sharia law.

Max Baucus is just as bad. He has his wonderful health care plan. He says everyone who doesn’t have healthcare will be fined. Very good observation. At the risk of being labeled a “prude,” it seems to me we have descended into pathology in the other direction.
Victorianism began as a reaction to the “loose and easy” years of the Regency (the years Lord Byron sowed his wild oats). And yet the Regency was pretty tame compared to present day society. And the “anti-sex” stance Christianity gets a bad rap for started as a revulsion against the sexual excesses of the pagans (which actually do compare to our excesses).
It’s almost impossible to imagine putting that genie back in the bottle now that it’s been out for 30+ years. But there is precedent for it. I just hope it doesn’t happen because we find ourselves living under Sharia law.

I saw a documentary about gay men in Iran who opt for (government-paid) sex change operations. Their lives are so miserable that they cut off their penises rather than live as gay men in Islamic Iran. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly considering they were gay and not transgendered, the (wo)men who were interviewed a while after their surgeries were still unhappy and at least some were only able to find work as prostitutes.

Canada is not perfect but we’ve come a long way and I hope our rapidly changing demographics don’t sent us hurtling backwards in time.
