Project Valour – IT *Adaptive laptops for the wounded*

army navy af marines

Welcome to the 2009 Soldiers’ Angels Valour-IT fundraiser, running October 26 to November 11! This friendly, spirited competition raises money for technology that reconnects wounded warriors and supports their recovery.

A project through Soldier’s Angels (of which I am a proud member). Please donate if at all possible! The amount isn’t an issue, but we can let them know we care!

Many, many thanks to Chaotic Synaptic Activity for the heads up on this!

    Hey m!

I’m a little strapped for cash right now.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBayqJMhhaM

But I am a bit in cahoots with the local conservative talk folks Quinn and Rose.
Rose mostly handles this sort of thing, but I’m not quite sure which link you would like me to pass along to them.

    They broadcast nationally on satellite.

    http://www.warroom.com/

I’d be more than happy to pitch it to them to see if they’ll linkee.

Strange! I, too, am a soldier’s angel and I was just looking through the SA Store website! Also have a box ready to go to the PO today. My new guy is a Marine in A’stan.

  14. 14 | October 26, 2009 9:10 am

M – Are we donating money, or laptops themselves, through this project?

Either way, I’d go through the Marines. I have a nephew who graduated from Parris Island last November, has already made Corporal, and is about to finalise his training to be part of the Marine Honour Guard for the President. We don’t like the President we currently have, but guarding the office is an honour all the same.

Tony La Russa is returning to the St. Louis Cardinals as manager on a one-year contract, but there will be one change to his coaching staff.

Mark McGwire, the former Cardinals slugger, will replace Hal McRae, who was fired as hitting coach, La Russa said Monday.

This one is for cashola. They supply:

Project Valour-IT helps provide voice-controlled/adaptive laptop computers and other technology to support Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines recovering from hand wounds and other severe injuries. Items supplied include:

Voice-controlled Laptops – Operated by speaking into a microphone or using other adaptive technologies, they allow the wounded to maintain connections with the rest of the world during recovery.

Wii Video Game Systems – Whole-body game systems increase motivation and speed recovery when used under the guidance of physical therapists in therapy sessions (donated only to medical facilities).

Personal GPS – Handheld GPS devices build self-confidence and independence by compensating for short-term memory loss and organizational challenges related to severe TBI and severe PTSD.

Write them and ask if they’d like a laptop donation as well though!

Something for people to think about: why the rush to enact Obamacare? Why the rush to grab control of as much of the rest of the economy as possible?

Because in a few months it will be…Tax Season. And the first bill for this nonsense will come due.

The objective is to lock in as much as possible before the populace realizes just how big the government hand in its wallet actually is, yelps accordingly—and possibly starts thinking about getting rid of Obama’s Congressional majorities.

Stall the current crap until April 15, and there may be some big changes next November.

I’ve always thought we should have to pay our taxes every month like a mortgage. There could even be in over-pay to steal a little interest. What is important is that the taxpayers should first have the money in hand, and then they should have to write the check to Uncle Sugar.

I don’t think it would last six months. They’d be hanging congressmen. Effigy? Why use an effigy when a real congressman will hang so well? People woul d go apeshit, but they’ll let the government take it out of their paycheck before it gets in their hot little hands and not say a peep.

It’s that frog boiling thing, again. Charles will no doubt shit bricks. Poor, poor little French. Nobody cares about them…

    re: #37 by Iron Fist

The “tax refund” scam—not unlike the “rebate” scam on purchases—is the way the government gets away with it.

If a company can sell—is selling—an item for $X less than the list price of $Y, it should sell it for $Y-X. Instead, it sells the item as costing “only $Y-X with rebate.” What that means is that it actually sells the item for $Y, and if you want to get the $X reduction in price you have to take an action, which the company gambles you won’t take, and even if you do take it, the company still has the use of your money for the period between the purchase and the actual return of the rebate.

The government does the same thing. If a percentage of your money is due the government, it should be a simple matter to calculate that percentage on an ongoing basis—and it would be, if there were not an ever-changing Byzantine thicket of deductions and regulations to hack through. If you do not have expert and up to date assistance, or if you forget to mention/claim something, the government gets to keep money it is not entitled to under its own regulations—and even if it does have to disgorge money that it recognizes as yours, it still has the use of it for a period of time.

In the meantime, people are grateful for their refunds.

Works for me. Make the States pay, maybe according to GDP, maybe something else (Isn’t doing it on GDP Progressive. Sometimes I hate myself). Leave it up to them how to get the money. Senator’s wives as prostitutes would never work, though. Can you think of a single Democrat Senator who’s wife you would want to fuck? Even if they were paying you? Damn, man, it makes me ill. I live in Quebec City, where the army unit taking most of the Canadian casualties in Afghanistan is based, and I’ve talked to guys who were preparing to leave for that terrible conflict—so I have some appreciation of what soldiers and their families across the border are going through. 52. 52 | October 26, 2009 7:35 pm

Yup, a bunch of us went out on the whale watching boat. The cruise was my least favourite. Run to one o’clock! Oh, now at three o’clock!

We also saw whales while sitting on the rocks on the beach in Tadoussac and while at various interpretation centres. We saw minkes, belugas (including a baby), dolphins or porpoises and seals.

A minke gave us a spectacular send-off while we were on the ferry leaving Tadoussac on our last day: he must have been hunting.

We did a lot of hiking on trails known by the locals and saw lots of sights in nearby towns. We climbed up and down the sand cliffs: that was brutal!

    From Jihad Watch,

Europe set to outlaw objections to Islamic Practices:

    http://www.jihadwatch.org/2009/10/european-union-set-to-outlaw-objections-to-islamic-practices.html

I suppose that this means that female “circumcision” will become de facto law over there and if a person objects then it is jail time for you.

This also means an erosion of freedom of speech. They also forget the dictum of Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, “If you are not allowed to offend anybody then there is no freedom of speech”.

It is horrifying, especially as it would appear that criticisms of Christianity and Judaism, (especially when linked to Israel) can continue apace. The dhimmification of Europe continues apace. The trouble is, the powers that be over there do not see it or for whatever purpose they do not care.

There is a backlash – this can be seen in an analysis of BNP election results. Where there is a large Hindu population in England the BNP tally is neglible and declines. Where there is a large Muslim population the BNP vote sky-rockets. The message from ordinary Britons is clear, they are not racists, but they don’t like being taken over by an intolerant philosophy.

And when the government does give you your pittance in return, they do so reluctantly and they take their time about about it.

The British astronomer, Patrick Moore, having undergone the frustrations of government services wrote a book entitled, “Bureaucrats – How to annoy them” somewhat outdated now, but still relaxing.

    Good morning compatriots;

It seems the left is now recognizing some cognitive dissonance, but can assume only the best, must be that Obama is “too nice” to deal with serious issues facing our nation?

Rose: I don’t know what Barack Obama’s worldview is.

    Brokaw: No, I don’t either.

Rose: And do we know anything about the people who are advising him?

    Brokaw: You know that’s an interesting question. . . . I don’t know what books he’s read.

Rose: What do we know about the heroes of Barack Obama?

Brokaw: There’s a lot about him we don’t know.

    is Barack too nice?

Journalists of the MSM say they don’t know a thing about Obama’s worldview, 11 months after the election. I wonder how much they get paid. Oh, to have a job such as theirs, with so little accountability?

“We have at least one Muslim family living here with children and it — it would be just awful to have them see something like that,” Epstein told Fox News.

But for Gadiel, it’s an important message that he insists be present on any tribute to his son.

“Muslims have to acknowledge that it was their co-religionists who committed this act in their name,” he said. “I am offended that unlike so many others, they refuse to acknowledge that it was their people who did this.”

    Me talking;
