The Thread For That

It seems Charles finally does reach
ideological purity!

A sekrit 1.0 thread from the not so distant future.

Latest at 1.0: ExxonMobil causes crop circles!

Well, it looks like ExxonMobil is up to new mischief. According to Exxonsecrets.org, there is a newly discovered conspiracy involving ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Tyson foods, and a gang of local prankster helicopter pilots to create crop circles, in order to defeat the organic free range chicken industry. Exxonsecrets quotes Zelda Pollo, president of the Vashon Island lesbian free range chicken association and hemp shop:

I was out grazing my chickens, and found the organic food crop that I was growing being destroyed. My chickens are crashing starving. This is obviously a plot by Big Chicken in cahoots with Big Oil.

Exxonsecrets went on to say that Ms. Pollo witnessed black helicopters spraying a totally chemical smelling chemical on her crops. It was like, chemicals. Then the crops turned brown, and all the flowertops went, like, limp.

Said Ms. Pollo:

I’m bummed. The chicken conspiracy is trying to put us all out of business, because we don’t make those fat industrial chickens that Big Oil uses to make oil out of. And this is hurting my other business, too.

Exxonsecrets also reports men in uniforms patrolling the area, with patches that say something with “D”, “E”, and “A”.

Well, lizards, this is disgusting. I hope Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are happy about this rural cooperative losing their ability to grow cooperative organic chickens to feed hungry children all over the world.  Oh, and hit the tip jar.

Scott, I really don’t get involved in politics. Only did once though, back in the 80’s when they wanted to close an elementary school. I argued against it was right as school aged pop increased significantly as the oldster moved on and young couples took their place.
Are wonderful gov’s new front man Greg Fajt was at one time running for some seat in the PA house–he came to our street to shake hands and as soon as I asked a question his handler yanked him away! Fuggedabout it!

I just vote for the Repub’s/conservatives when possible. The School superintendent fiasco gives you an idea about local politics–you are not likely to get straight answers.

And if I am really confused about right and wrong in politics, in general, I can always go to 1.0 for CJ’s guidance!!

By the way, who do you think got to Charles Johnson? I mean there has to be a payoff in my opinion–why would he reverse course and be so reckless in his approach those who disagree with him.

BCEO–before the common era of obama, I used to read Andrew Sullivan–pretty well thought out comments re repubs and conservatism. Then, of course, he went off the rails over Pres Bush’s view of marriage. Ok, what caused CJ to change?
    My bet–$$$!

Great stuff, especially the 1.0 thread.

There was a proposal to play a “Hi Bob! Chuck!” kinda game this Friday night, and I’d like to suggest an enhancement. Commenters are invited to have a typical 1.0 discussion by posting “quotes” from the swamp for whatever 1.0 character they’d like to be, any or all. It’d be fun satire/mockery, just for that one post.

“THE WHITE HOUSE – Despite the President’s promise of a swift and decisive victory, Obama’s War on Fox News has developed all signs of an unwinnable quagmire, making the White House even more isolated in its unilateral attempts to crush the growing media insurgency. As the war continues to grind on for a second month, public opinion is shifting towards a quick and complete withdrawal. While many observers still agree that the “War on Limbaugh” is a “just and necessary war,” even the former supporters of the war effort are now labeling the War on Fox an “unnecessary war of choice” and claim that the cable channel had nothing to do with Obama’s falling approval numbers.”

Your busking thread was very funny.

It was very surprising to see the Amazon Halloween thread right after you had spoofed him. There isn’t a single comment on there that indicated they’d buy anything from Amazon. Someone mentioned a book so then Charles posted a link in a comment to the book on Amazon. Still, no one will buy anything. They’re all broke over there.

Cato asked if anyone had seen A**whistle and then someone told him to check his e mail.

What happened? She and LVQ are hated by many over there but because Charles inexplicably likes them, they’re protected from all manner of boorish behavior.

I wish I would have seen that.

I did see where LVQ was complete hostile and rude to AJStrata who Charles was “honoring” after AJ had defended Charles.

However, an honor by Charles is often a disguised trap. AJ was making some anti AGW comments so Charles went upthread and asked LVQ to come downthread and counter those comments.

Honestly, I’ve never seen anything like it. The behavior is unfathomable.

I used to think that CJ really didn’t understand that it was the commenters that gave that place value and he was therefore making a mistake chasing them away. But now I think that maybe he DID realize it and wanted to change the blog to focus on HIM and HIS notions. Maybe he’s glad to have nothing but trembling mediocrity there, to have no one left to upstage him. Maybe he’s tired of being the fine-print-on-the-back-of-the-CD player instead of the lead singer in the band.

Look at the list of the fled-and-the-banned. Look at the talent. Gagdad Bob. Iowahawk. Zombie. Buzzsawmonkey. And many, many more.
He doesn’t like these people. He’s trashed every one of them. He can call S&D a fascist freak (!!!) and Buzz a misogynist (!!!)all he wants to, but unless he is genuinely psychotic, he can’t believe that.

The simple truth is that he doesn’t want them around. HE wants to be the center of attention now. HE wants to be the star. HE wants to be Mr. Popular, Mr. Smart, and Mr.Wonderful. Which means he has to drive away anyone who is self-evidently superior to him. And anyone who questions his wonderfulness.

Has anyone noticed, at least to me, that CJ is posting/answering/responding to comments in significant more numbers than in years past. iirc, there were many threads where he never made a comment and never responded to a question. Perhaps he was actually earning a living–but, now, he comments frequently–perhaps to let the fawning few that he is really, really one of them.

I don’t know if I’m banned yet. Don’t much care–I’ll never post there again.

I find now when I read 1.0, I unfocus my eyes and just scroll through a post looking for red downdings. It used to be that a down-dinged comment was one that was insulting or poorly thought out. Now it’s a sign the comment might actually be worth reading. Then I read Charles’ comments and just shake my head at the change. Occasionally I’ll read Sharmuta (You are so right, Charles), Killgore (Teabaggers!), or Irish Rose (I’ll get those stalkers if it’s the last thing I do), but that’s it.

It no longer makes any sense for me to post there. It’d be like trying to change Kos’s mind–can’t be done, he’ll just demean you, so why bother?

A man Charles used to like before he became ideologically impure by getting Glenn Beck’s cooties on him, Penn Jillette, had a moving YouTube recently where he talked about the pain of being demeaned by Tommy Smothers, a man he idolized. I used to feel the same way about Charles so cruelly turning on his conservative/libertarian readers. It hurts. I hope Penn gets over his pain–maybe he will come in time to feel the way I do about Charles: I admire what he did in the past, and can only move on from his odd and inexplicable present.

If you go to Zombie’s blog and read the Kevin Jennings post, you’ll see in the comment section some snarky posts about 1.0

    Zombie doesn’t delete comments.

Irish Rose came over, posted something, went back to 1.0’s site [so check the date and time and you can find the 1.0 side of it] and said that Zombie had deleted her comment.

    Which wasn’t true.

But CJ was already pissy with Zombie for the Holdren post and of course the Jennings post was probably way too much for him, so he just up and banned Zombie for not deleting other posters on HER blog.

In my experience, when you have a “scientists” who only wants to talk papers, and never wants to talk theory, he/she isn’t a scientist in any meaningful sense of the word.

Unfortunately, AJ stopped abruptly in the middle of the thread, and the swarm kept on going, giving the impression that they won. I don’t know whether he’d decided that he’d given as much time as he could, or if his mike was shut off. re: #107 by Bunk X

But it’s very relevant because the open threads here often focus on 1.0s crazed Glenn Beck hatred. The question is, should the dissenting viewpoint take advantage of the large audience and state their own side calmly and cleverly or should there be outright avoidance of those you disagree with?

In 1.0’s case, all dissent is banned. Makes the place much less interesting. There’s no give and take. Just “quite concur, quite concur”.

In the O administration, Fox news is shunned. Instead of realizing how large that audience is and calmly and sanely pointing out the administration’s policies, shunning is the MO.

I think Gillette is right, he knows he’s right, and he is cleverly displaying his sorrow while putting forth his own thoughts for public consumption. His opinion is that sane people speaking in a ranting insane environment enlighten, not legitimize, the crazies, even if just one at a time sees the light.

So here’s a great chili recipe you’re gonna love.

    2 lb. Lean Ground Chuck
    2 medium sized yellow onions
    2 medium sized bell peppers
    2 8oz. cans Hunt’s tomato sauce
    2 12oz. cans Campbell’s tomato soup
2 8oz. cans mushroom stems and pieces
1/2 lb. grated cheddar cheese (for topping)

    1 tbs crushed red chili
    1 tbs chili powder
    1/2 tsp ground cumin
    1 cube chicken boullion
    1/4 tsp salt
    1 tbs ground black pepper
    2 tbs garlic powder

Brown Chuck in an iron skillet. Transfer Chuck to crockpot, saving the grease. Set crockpot on low.

Add onions to the grease in the skillet, simmer until soft.

When onions are soft and happy, add them to crockpot and mix.

    Add spices.
Add the rest of the stuff and stir/fold the mixture.

Heat on high for 60 minutes. Prepare spaghetti or macaroni while you’re waiting.

When chili is ready, ladle it onto macaroni or spaghetti and top with grated cheddar cheese.

    Great stuff.

I was scanning the other site yesterday, and I noticed that Charles made a comment that referred to the fact that a poster had attempted to get the all-important last post on a thread.

I was puzzled – until I recalled that the last poster has his name in blue on the front page under the Charles’s thread leader and a bubble comes up with the first few words of the post.

It was then I recalled that the times Charles responded to posts of mine were at the end of threads. I often get to threads late (as here), but decide to post anyway, as thoughts are ephemeral and I like to get them down as they occur to me. I had no idea that I was trying to hog a spotlight.

This is another example of how technological wizardry can distort behavior, like the ding system. And yet there is a technological answer to Charles’ jealousy of that particular virtual space. If he gets irritated by last posts, why does he not close the threads on a post of his own choosing or writing? Then a sneaky denier can’t spoil his site behind his back.

Someone on this site recently suggested identifying the last poster on a thread.

Good point…but I still can’t get over how impressionable (for lack of a better word)someone can be to essentially change their political stripes due to an emotional attachment to a political blog. How much of an independent thinker can you be. To be fair, there are folks there who simply like the site and know Charles is nuts but agree with much of his viewpoint. I think most of them have been “flushed out” or have left, shall we say, in a ball of fire.

That kind of pissant crap doesn’t go on here. Posting “First” is a ridiculous first comment that CJ hates, but here it’s considered mockery. You won’t get banned for the obnoxious absurdity. Same with being last.

But for those regulars who do know he is nuts but are politically alligned with him it must be a struggle everyday. They privately cringe at a lot of what has gone on, but don’t take that last step of checking out. I suspect many of them DO read Hot Air etc. and post under different names if they do to avoid the wrath of charles.

The fact that he ‘forbids’ anyone from posting on the banned list of sites is the ultimate in hypocrisy. It’s his blog, but not only can you not disagree with him or his ‘pet’ subjects you can’t even go to another neighborhood. It is so Soviet Union circa 1970’s. And the snitches are watching.

Speaking of catfights, the LVQ-Strata thing was a site to behold. Even by the dour, biting unfriendly LGF standards the thing got so nasty that it made me realize that as long as your one of Charles favorites, you can get away with some pretty vile stuff (so long as it is directed at someone else and your view is consistent with Chuck’s). The reality of the thing is that a couple of brave LGFers tried to, correctly, call out LVQ. One of the most telling threads I have read on the new 1.0

I’m looking at internet excerpts of a book by Peter Schäfer, The History of the Jews in the Greco-Roman World, and I’m thinking of ordering it. The Seleucids built a gymnasium down the block from the temple, you know, and some of the more traditional Jews found that objectionable, but the temple priests were reportedly hanging out in the gym instead of doing their ritual functions :)

The Arabs who call themselves “Palestinians” must be flipping their lids in the Holy Land today.

It appears that a UNSC veto from Obama won’t be needed for the anti-Israel report about the Gaza War.

Russia and China definitely plan to veto a Security Council discussion of the report if it comes up and Al Jazeera thinks that France is planning on vetoing it too.

Why (seriously) would it put an end to the peace process?

The Gaza War was the result of rocket fire into Israel increasing after Israel withdrew completely from Gaza in 2005.

Bibi Netanyahu has stated openly that the Jewish people in Israel will not be willing to take any more risks for peace if Israel is going to be prosecuted for defending her people from the consequences of taking such risks.

He’s got an excellent point and the permanent members of the UN Security Council know it (or at least some of them do).

Interesting news in Israel this morning…

The “Palestinians” and Obama are both insisting that Israel and the “Palestinians” begin peace negotiations at the point where former PM Ehud Olmert made an offer of statehood to the “Palestinians” in 2008.

However, Martin Indyk is claiming that Tzipi Livni warned Mahmoud Abbas and America that they’d better not sign the deal with Olmert because it was unacceptable from the Israeli side.

Olmert was facing indictments so he offered too much in the 2008 deal. Obama and Mahmoud Abbas want to start any new negotiations at this point and Bibi Netanyahu is saying ‘no way!’

This weakens Obama’s position (to know that even the former left leaning government didn’t want this deal either except for the left leaning PM who was facing criminal action and hoped to redeem himself with a peace deal).

Indyk: Livni told PA to reject offer

    Hi Number6!

At this point, it looks unlikely that there will be negotiations anytime soon since Obama poisoned the peace process by making impossible demands of Israel right off the bat that have been picked up as pre-conditions for negotiations by Mahmoud Abbas.

I don’t think a peace agreement is possible anyway.

What’s ironic is that the Arabs who live in Judea and Samaria are actually seeing a remarkable rise in their economy since Israel defeated the suicide bombers and the other terrorists.

No peace deal was made. Israel defeated terrorists. The Arabs are living better in Judea and Samaria because Israel stopped the Pal terrorism.

No “pro-peace” people want to talk about this, however.

When Obama heard about the poll with only 4% of Jewish Israelis viewing him as a friend to Israel, he made some initial plans to speak to Israelis on TV during prime time (as he does in America all too often) to try to change their minds by letting them see and hear him on TV.

Some commentators in Israel remarked in op-ed pieces that Obama’s problem in Israel isn’t that the Israelis don’t know him well enough.

His problem in Israel is that the Israels do know him well enough.

Plans for a speech on Israeli TV were scrapped.

Well, I think they believed Bibi when he said that a UNSC discussion or support for the Gaza war report would collapse the entire peace process.

Bibi told them that there was no way that the Israeli people would ever be willing to make risks for peace again if Israel is going to be prosecuted for defending her people from the consequences of taking such risks.

Bibi pretty much told them that the peace process would die completely if the UNSC supports the Gaza war report (and he meant it).

They still think a peace agreement is possible. They think that such an agreement would help stabilize things in the Middle East and elsewhere.

They’ve also had to deal with Islamist terrorists themselves. So they have an idea what Israel was up against with Hamas in Gaza.

Each of them have skeletons in the closet and while the chances of them surfacing are not high (as none of those are Jewish state :P ), they don’t want to chance that. Obama however does not care. Iran lawmaker: Teheran ‘doesn’t accept’ nuke deal to ship uranium

    What’s this?

Iran’s deputy parliament speaker on Thursday dismissed an internationally backed draft plan to have Teheran ship its uranium abroad for enrichment.

Mohammad Reza Bahonar was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying Iran “doesn’t accept” the offer, drummed up at a nuclear meeting in Vienna.

Following three-day talks in the Austrian capital, Iran said it would decide on the plan on shipping its uranium to Russia for enrichment.

Bahonar’s remark is the first reaction on the draft in Teheran. But he does not speak for the government, which is to decide on the mat

Late last night I heard on the radio news that certain medical diagnostic tests were no longer considered of value in treating disease. They mentioned yearly mammograms, prostate checkups and some other procedures. The first thing that occurred to me was, this is how it starts. Conditioning people to expect less, so when the gov’t takes over H.C. they will have already scaled back what the public has become used to.
It is not going to be possible for 300 million people in this country to get adequate H.C. from the greedy bureaucrats who dole out the money.

I was thinking about how gov’t H.C. demoralizes citizens. Just look at Britain where people with cancer die because of the waiting not the disease itself. Imagine the days going by and the mass in your lung or gut, growing. Or think of the person whose teeth are rotting out because gov’t dentists have met their quota of patients. And old people who are last on the list for everything.
This is a horrid predicament for human beings. It totally crushes the human spirit. It makes for a weak and pliable, subservient population who wait, cap in hand, banking on empty gov’t promises.

What I remember is that CJ would make a rules proclamation deep in the middle of a thread somewhere to say that people who did X or who brought up Y would be banned from now on.

Along comes a hapless person on another thread an hour or a day later, and he does X or brings up Y.

The person is banned without ever knowing why.

There was no way to keep up with the new rules for banning unless someone obsessed over reading every single thing CJ wrote on his blog.

This is how CJ ended up nearly alone over there with Sharmuta, Iceweasel and Killgore.

Penn Jillette, had a moving YouTube recently where he talked about the pain of being demeaned by Tommy Smothers, a man he idolized

I liked Instapundit’s response to that: maybe you should think twice before making anybody an “idol.” They’ll always let you down.

I greatly admired CJ too back in the day. But Reynolds is right. You can like people and admire things they do but putting them on a pedestal isn’t good for either you or them.

Our country is hurting right now because the MSM has become a collection of Obama fans rather than watchdogs. They convinced 53% of the population to vote for “American Idol” last November and we are all imperiled as a result.

Bambi wouldn’t be so damn thin-skinned if he had had fewer guilty white followers idolizing him and more plain speakers around him willing to raise the BS flag when necessary.
