did our dogma run over their karma?
Yes, I realize there is already “a thread for that”, but it was getting long and well… IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!
Hi Coldwarrior!
whats up m?
Hi Chuckles!
Dogmas don’t run over karmas, they pee on them.
re: #6 by snork
i thought dogmas peed on fire hydrants?

Okay this is a switch.
People usually drag other threads off topic to bash Johnson, but here I am going off topic in a Johnson-bash thread to post about something else.
Researcher claims he worked on a balloon hoax project with Heene
Sheriff: Criminal charges coming against Richard Heene, wife for ‘balloon boy’ incident
Sheriff plans to file criminal charges against ‘Balloon Boy’ dad and others
The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.
- John Steinbeck
It isn’t what is said as much as who said it that is unusual. I’d have thought Steinbeck was a moonbat.
We should have our own ding system. Updings only and no total karma points.
And we should be able to upding ourselves as much as we like.
re: #11 by Moe Katz
I thought Woody Allen invented that.
re: #8 by CloudyDay
Well that’s certainly a change of pace.

Heh. That was a good movie.
OK. here is my addition to that vid.

This is my boyfriend, driving the X car (white and blue) who got the short end of the stick when the other driver forgot to pop it in gear but instead rolls into his path. Both are out for the season. : (
re: #9 by Iron Fist
Based on what I’ve read about him (and his two cents on a few subjects), Steinbeck struck me as a guy with some common sense.

It reminds me to watch Scoop real soon.

I bet that left a mark or two. Sorry to hear he’s out for the season

re: #8 by CloudyDay
I can’t come to a conclusion on balloon boy, but it looks like they are about to run this family through the wringer. When you start getting government child services involved, only bad things happen. I feel sorry for the family.
re: #11 by Moe Katz
But don’t let grandma catch you.
re: #15 by bellamags
Ouch! Glad he didn’t get seriously hurt….
re: #18 by SciFiGuy
The only good thing is that now we have more time together! The cars are built so well now that It’s hard to get hurt unless there is fire. The second clip I posted that looked much worse, the driver walked away OK.
re: #16 by Morgan
I vaguly remember having to read the Grapes of Wrath, but I couldn’t tell you anything about the book. It isn’t the sentimate that is odd. I’ve heard the same thing probably a thousand different ways. I’ve always prefered the Mack Bolan quote – Them mind and the sword are one. If them mind is right, the sword is right.
But that is just me. It was just interesting to run across Steinbeck saying the same thing. That would have stuck with me from high school if they’d have covered it.
re: #20 by LoFlyer
I feel sorry for the kids….but not the parents if they planned this. Somebody could have been hurt in the ‘rescus’, and a lot of money was wasted on it.
I was booted from the swamp just before the karma system was implemented; so I don’t have a dogma in this fight.
re: #6 by snork
Speaking of karma vs dogma, just popped in at Little Green Fanantics for a monent.

It’s so much fun, isn’t it??? I love watching the races. I really would love to drive some day. (not sprints yet, maybe mini-sprints) 2 pounds of car to 1 hp is kinda scary.
re: #25 by Kitteh
The whole affair has been blown out of proportion by the media hungry for a story that is not there. When you get the local sheriff and state child affairs involved, then I can almost guarantee a “train-wreck” with lots of money spent on legal fees by both sides that simple comman sense would of averted.

That’s quite an appalling lack of common decency. hot air only seems to serve as a means of lowering the public discourse and not raising it. It only serves to increase this sort of message in politics, and the results could be seen at the townhalls with finger biting, and yelling… Disgusting people.
Frankly- the depravity and sociopathy is making me a bit ill.
re: #9 by Iron Fist
Steinbeck was pretty far left in the ’30’s and ’40’s and he remained a Democrat. But he lost fans in the ’60’s by being a strong supporter of the Vietnam War. Two of his sons served in ‘Nam and Steinbeck visited the troops and wrote several favorable articles about them. Needless to say, that caused the ’60’s Leftist to dismiss him as a warmongering hawk.
He was pretty much persona non grata in literary circles when he died in 1968.
Steinbeck had problems with the IRS, but that didn’t stop him from being a Big Government Dem. But he was a hawk and certainly loved America, so I wouldn’t put him in the moonbat category. I reserve that slot for toads like Gore Vidal.

Uh, Sharmuta doesn’t know that the finger-biting was done by a leftist? I suppose the tea partiers were to blame for inciting a moonbat to bite someone’s finger off. If they only stayed home and shut up, life would be much more pleasant for Sharmuta.
Jeez. As for the rest of her post – talk about projection.

Did you “back it in” on 10A? I think that’s what this rider was attempting until the front lost grip.
Today was my youngest nephew’s 5th birthday. 10 other 5 year olds were at his party. One broken vase and a few tears (can you have 11 5 years in a room for several hours without at least one or two bursting into tears at some point?) but the birthday boy was happy. He got a new bike with training wheels, a lot of games and monster stuff and some boring (to him) clothes.
I am so damn tired. Rugrats are cute and fun and sweet and all that but damn, they take a lot out of you.
Et tu, Chuckles? Hoo boya!
re: #52 by snork
Ah. The pseudo-scientist LudwigVanQuixote weighs in again. How about we get away from string theory, and move back into the realities of general relativity? Argument for the sake of argument says that the universe they believe operates in either 4 or 5 dimensions(lots of argument on that one still), and the speed of light isn’t constant because an ‘unknown’ is slowing it down. That unknown isn’t gravity. It however may be a combination of time/gravity and ’something else’ we haven’t figured out yet.
That’s where the fun part in string theory gets involved.
re: #57 by Panhandler
Nope, I just followed a bunch of other cars cruising the track, one lap around and off the track. We sort of lost interest in Road Atlanta with the new owners and sky high prices.

I have a feeling “Kip” may already be here!
It’s disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. I’m not sure what the “it” is, but it’s really disgusting. That’s why I only read LGF, I don’t even go to other blogs anymore. They’re all disgusting. Everybody else has changed while we’ve remained exactly the same. We are morally pure. In my heart I know that Charles is right about everything, and that I am right about everything because I agree with Charles. Charles is Da Man. He is not disgusting. Everyone else is very very disgusting. Right wing blogs are full of crazy, disgusting people. People who are stupid and racist and mean. Right wing blogs have a responsibility to monitor every post, because it’s worked out so well for LGF.
I feel I’ve been ambiguous so I want to be double clear. I’m disgusted, absolutely disgusted, with the disgusting disgustingness permeating the entire internet except for Charles’ site.
Hot Air is extra special double outrageously disgusting because Charles says so. If he says it, I feel it. I feel it deeply. There is nobody in the history of the planet who has ever been as disgusting as Hot Air. They are racist disgusting people who are stupid.

The alternative to using a network like Pulse360 or Google Adsense is: getting LGF readers to start supporting the site directly through Paypal donations — and Paypal donations aren’t even coming close to covering our simple web hosting costs. Forget about paying for my living expenses or the time I spend writing posts or moderating the blog.
I put up links for people to “subscribe” to LGF several months ago, at $10 a month, and so far I have a grand total of … four subscriptions.
I’d love to take off all the advertisements, believe me. But without more support from the users who read and comment at LGF, I have no choice but to use ad networks.

LGF is a stalker blog of LGF stalker blogs. When the universe finally calculates that, it will converge into a black hole and disappear.

i think the problem they’re talking about is that the universe is too homogenous (too similar in areas so far apart that light/information couldn’t have been exchanged between them) to be explained by a simple Big Bang.
So an inflationary model of the early universe can explain away that problem.
Or, a variable speed of light could explain it.
I think the consensus now is the inflationary model, but I don’t know if CJ has weighed in on that yet…

Don’t forget all the time spend writing and moderating. Charles insights are worth their weight in gold, and his countless seconds spent debating whether a mild disagreement really merits banning from his shrinking corner of the internet are truely a gift to humanity.
So Charles Johnson walks into a bar.
Bartender says “Hey Chuck. What can I get you?”
Charles says, “Gimme $10 or I won’t drink here anymore.”
so it takes what, 5-6 hundred bucks a month to
host a blog the size of lgf? and he has to beg
like a drunken hobo on a streetcorner with a

Let people buy dings, something like 25 clicks for a dollar. Then, let people cash out their karma points for cheap trinkets, like little trophies that say “anit-fascist” or a sheriffs star that says “Internet Rascist patrol, deputy # 450.” 10,000 karma gets you a prize. Perhaps for 50,000 karma someone can take the role of a monitor lizard.

Nissan GTR lays it down. I have a bad case of ADD so I go through cars and jobs a bit. Consequently I just sold my CLK55 to my wife’s brother. He lives in LA and just HAD to have my car. So now I’m driving my Suburban while I figure out my next car purchase. the thought of a Prius absolutely sickens me. I had a C55 picked out, then backed out and I don’t know why. I think I’ll still end up with one. Luckily I’m not TOO impulsive!

I disagree. The number of unique persons posting over there seems rather small compared to here. But, I agree that that site probably has more viewers, albiet casual or curious. One thing is for sure-it ain’t like it was a few years ago.
re: #180 by Moe Katz
All we can base that on is the services, but according to quantcast, they’re at 21.7, and we’re at 15.7. Ok, not ‘about the same’, but similar magnitude for the purposes of pricing service.

Cheesehead, how’s the weather there? I recall earlier you said it was getting below normal already.
The same thing is happening here in Maine. Our autumn lasted about four weeks. Now we’re hitting nights in the 30s and away from the coast they are already getting frost warnings.
re: #198 by Cheesehead
I wonder how many use it as a serious source of news or opinion anymore. There don’t seem to be many people who jump to its defense when it is mentioned elsewhere.
I’d bet upwards of 20% of the viewers are the “watching the train wreck” sort.
re: #198 by Cheesehead
We have far fewer page loads than them, but we are equaling or exceeding them in the comments department. If you go to Quantcast and compare, you’ll see that their pages served are on a one-day scale, whereas ours are on a one-month scale. I don’t really care, though, because this place is about the participants, not the drive-by’s.

According to sitestar, it looks like Chuckie is enjoying a dead cat bounce from the organic fertilizer maelstrom he has incited at the other blogs over the past month:
Site Views
Will be interesting to see coming months. May through July were waaay down from previous months, August showed a slight bump (some of the fecal maelstrom swirling starting) and September showed a pretty good size bump. My speculation would be train-wreck gawkers. That’s already getting old at the other blogs, so October on will be the telling months of whether his new “business model” is going to be successful.

re: #219 by LanceKates
You really did this? Too funny.
I recall once when I lived in San Diego a friend’s wife was downtown when a homeless dude approached her asking for a handout (not food or money, just a handout) and all she had was a bag of groceries so she gave him a banana. He took the banana and proceeded to smash it against the sidewalk shrieking something like “a banana? what the fuck am I going to do with a banana”.
And then there is the time when I was shouted at by a homeless person in San Francisco for daring to respond politely to his panhandling.
Daily vistis to seems about even on quancast. Nice catch Moe.

There was a time, when president Bush Sr was elected, that Minnesota considered leaving the US and go to canada. Never had serious momentum, but there were alot of liberals in the north that were cranky that Bush won.

Being in Maine, I pick up a lot of Canadian coins also.
More Canada-isms:
Having grown up in Texas and then moving to San Diego I was used to seeing signs in English and Spanish, including ATM languages but when I moved to Maine about 6 years ago it was my first introduction to French! Things here are in English/French instead of English/Spanish. Even some highway signs show kilometers along with miles. Oops, sorry, here they are not “highways” but “turnpikes”.
re: #255 by Clavius
there are 4 folks that are on the corners by highway 40 in okc every day. 2 are a couple and are by 40 and Reno, sometimes they alternate with the guy on the other side of 40.
They always have the same sign and the men are always with the same growth of beard, messy (but not overly dirty) clothing, asking for money.
They must make pretty good money, based on the dimwits that fork it over.
Oddly enough, on the horridly cold days, they’re not there. Same as rainy days.

I used to do zoning compliance reports for commercial mortgage companies. I did a site in canada (which was wierd as the US is about the only country that HAS zoning laws as we know them). All of the phone menus were in french. I’d just push buttons and when people’d pick up and speak french, I’d keep speaking english until someone transferred me to the ‘english’ department. Then I got my answers.

Good luck on that promotion.
When my son gets to the self serving age of 18 (cough) I will move up in my job. Climbing this ladder means I will have to work all shifts every three months at a pop.
re: #271 by Moe Katz
well, if they need to be programmed. unlike normal cell phones, PDAs are highly customizable and barring any software issue that corrupts the ROM chip, or hardware failure, you can fix most anything in the device itself. (Now, for many things, you end up backing up your info on a desktop computer and resetting the device, but that counts)
When you get into Blackberries, you’re also dealing with the blackberry servers (which is why most cell phone companies charge a bit more for blackberry plans and why you have to pay extra to get your corporate email in a blackberry)
with Windows Mobile phones, you can redownload cab files to reinstall most of the software that isn’t part of the core WM rom.
some of the phones, I can even log in to take control of your phone to check settings and such. (Now that’s fun if someone’s never experienced that before. I normally get “Oh wow, that’s so cool!”)

re: #255 by Clavius
I’ve lived in some great panhandler cities and have many stories. I have given money to folks in Austin, San Diego, Dallas, NYC, Boston, San Francisco, etc. The best homeless story I have involves a very large black man who used to lie on his back with his stomach protruding through his unbuttoned shirt at the same spot every evening downtown.
I won’t go into the details but suffice it to say that I, along with some of my fellow co-workers, were privileged to see how he cleans himself after evacuating his bowels in broad daylight on the sidewalk for all to see.

It’s only the Quebec region that uses French, yes? I’m ignorant of all things Canadian but being in Maine one would think all Canadians are bilingual with French being their second language.
I can’t say I blame the state of Maine for pandering to the french speaking canadians as it’s a large part of tourism.
re: #266 by Panhandler

re: #284 by Clavius
Locala news did a special on folks (like the 4 I talked about earlier) who are out begging as homeless folks who then walk a few blocks away to their (nice) car and drive away. Live in decent areas.
Turns out, most of them just want drug or gambling money.
The sad part is the vast number of mentally disturbed folks that ARE out on the streets that used to be in institutions getting the help they needed.
But alot of those Institutions were shut down because it may seem ‘embarrassing’ for those in it.
So instead, they’re homeless. Yeah, THAT’S a step up.
re: #253 by Moe Katz
Not sure I’m seeing that he had to sell out to the dark side for that. Daily Kos only gets ~100k more hits than Hotair (700k vs 600k), so in the overall scheme of things, a strong conservative blog can pull in plenty of traffic as well. Frankly, it’s not very likely that Chuckie is going to do that well with his new best liberal friends anyway — he wasn’t exactly very complimentary to them before he reverted. Even liberals have a long enough memory to not like traitors. I offer Arlen Spectre and Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords as evidence.

Once, a low hanging funnel passed overhead and bounced the car alot. It was awesome!

Work totally scares me. I would never want to give up my lifestyle choice of living in a cardboard box and blogging from a public library!
Well, the brick-fights with other bums over choice street corners can be tiresome.
re: #321 by AZfederalist
We’ve been on evaporative for over a month too. mother_of_10 is awfully frugal and it has to get pretty hot before she cranks on the AC. I had the 3 littlest girls with me last night up on Mt. Lemon for a daddy-daughter overnighter and it was right cool! I loved it.

What a lot of ugly bickering over on 1.0 tonight. I cannot fathom why any of the oldies are still there.
re: #377 by Scott Madsen
I built my first in 1988 and have over a dozen under my belt. I was an armorer for the 977th MP company for a while. I don’t count any of those where I had to refit a rifle after some dunce stripped it completely and screwed up somethng.
The first two I built from scratch required hand fitting some of the parts. Jewlers files and emory cloth.
I enjoy the AR, but it is not my first choice for a battle rifle. I would opt for something with 700 meter plus range. That way I can touch them before they even have an inkling I’m around.
My present HH is a Savage 112 retrofitted to 308. It sports a 32x scope In the service I trained with the M-21 system and presnetly have an M1A equipped with a douglas barrel and a scope. I plan to glass the stock at some point.
I hunted deer with a 1917 Eddystone remington from 1980 up to 2006. It is all original.
To turn a rig around you need just a little more width than the length of the trailer. On two lane roads that can be a real problem if you’re back east. Here in NM not so much but it sure rains allot back east and you don’t want to get off the pavement in allot of places. Bakersfield was a great place to stop BTW, a truckstop there was right next to a bar which you didn’t find very often.

Why has this thread turned into a screaming match?
I believe I was just mentioning how much work it took to run LGF, and how little it’s been paying to do it recently… and here we have another catfight, with people on both sides emailing me and telling me I need to step in.
What does any of this have to do with the topic of the thread? I couldn’t have asked for a better illustration of the kind of stuff I have to spend way too much time dealing with.
Unless everyone involved in this latest pissing match chills out right now, I’m going to close comments on this thread.

re: #389 by JeremyR
Your way ahead of me as a GI trained armorer.
I’ve been on my own with that on the five lower and two upper assemblies I have completed
I just got into the AR thing three years ago after I had filled out my medium bore rifle battery. Most of those are kept on a large tract of rural property for the downrange purpose you stated.
I live 4 miles from downtown Pittsburgh and began laying in ARs two years ago for contingencies that may arise here. I do however own a LaRue 1/8 polygonal rifled .223 wylde chambered rifle (lothar walther blank) that is sub minute with 77gr. Sierra Match Kings. I have 600 rounds of GI MK 262 held in reserve for it.
Good to see more like minded people are here.
I hope that manual sparks the interest of those seeking to improve their skill sets.

re: #399 by Scott Madsen
I advocate training to the one shot one kill standard. In battle, if you shoot only once, they most likely will not get a bearing on you. If you fire twice, they will. The mountain men learned that quickly in blackfoot country.
Carlos Hathcock once eliminated almost an entire company of NVA replacements in Vietnam. He picked them off one at a time with his spotter keeping them pinned on a dyke in a rice paddy for more then a day. Two well trained men vs 60 is not a fair fight when one of the two is a man like Hathcock. When both of them are, well, its a bad day for the sixty.
I started shooting with a Geco 1919 when I was fourteen. It was a single shot rifle made in Germany after WW1. I hunted Richardson squirrels on pasture land in Minnesota. They are a gopher about the size of a toilet paper tube, and much like prairee dogs as far as saavy.
Lots of fun!
re: #406 by Lost
Most everyone did drop it and apologized for screaming. It had to do with murders while in US custody in a war zone but denigrated into ad hoc attacks on each other, far as I could tell. I didn’t delve too deep since the fight was pretty much over after daddy threatened to shut down comments.

Now we get to the meat of the matter. You’ll simply refuse to believe anything that disproves what you WANT to believe (”I trust…”) and when presented with evidence to the contrary, you’ve decided it doesn’t matter. Torture, murder, genital slicing– it’s ok if the US does it, according to you.

Hi Charles, here is an open hate mail.
I really used to like the site before you became such a shrill jackass. Malkin obviously must be a horrible racist worthy of the playboy “who would you love to rape” and “bag of meat” comments because she does not review every comment. Rush must be a horrible racist because you can dig back 30 years to find small stupid comment. Fake but accurate is clearly justified. Spencer must be a racist nazi because someone was trying to hook up with him in Denny’s, only they did not get there on time. Wilders is obviously as evil as Hamas because he would like for muslims to stop hunting him in his country. What is next, Ayaan hirst ali needs a good raping because the islam way is all peachy and misunderstood? And what exactly is the carbon footprint of Israel being nuked? Will it make global warming a reality? Forget all about obambi’s “they bring a knife, we bring a gun”, “we are all that stands between you and the pitchforks”, and those Iranians being raped before execution… really not a problem, malkin has mean comments.
I loved your site for year Charles. Thanks for the past. Hope the baptism in the church of Obama or whatever your problem is wears off. Until then, I am hanging up my lizard skin. Please ban this account and hope you get better.

Well that’s the fun part about universe creation theory. Besides we can get into the fun parts about dark matter, transient matter, space curvatures on a 4th axis and all that other crap and while I believe in the possibility of ’similarities’ in some places, I don’t believe that it’s common enough in the vastness of the expanding universe with our limited understanding of it that inside the Inflation theory that it will hold up to water in the next 20 years.
It took us 150+ years to be able to go from ‘what hit me in the head’ to ‘gravity exists in a measurable form’ to ‘gravity is gravity, but it isn’t behaving in a normalized way’.
