The older of the Muslim mothers pulls out her bag and starts flipping through family photos and reminiscing. “This is my oldest son, Mohamed. He would have been 24 now.”
The other mother replies, “Yes, I remember him as a baby.”
The first mother says, “He’s a martyr now.”
“Oh…That’s so sad, my dear.”
Then the first mother flips to another picture. “And this is my second son, Abdul. He would be 21.”
“Oh, I remember him. He had such curly hair when he was born.”
The first mother sighs, “He’s also a martyr.”
“Oh gracious me!!!” says the second mother.
“And this ….. this is my third son. My beautiful Ahmed! He would be 18 this year.”
” Why.. yes” says her friend enthusiastically, “I remember when he first started school!”
“He’s also a martyr”, the first mother says. She sobs. Her eyes fill with tears.
After a pause and a deep sigh, the second Muslim mother looks wistfully at the photos, gently lays her hand on the first woman’s shoulder and says: “They blow up so fast, don’t they?”
This is also an overnight/early morning open thread…

It would be nice if we could see the most recent comment date/time next to the total number of comments on the posts here so that it would be easier to spot if the post has had any new comments since we were here last.
Thanks.

Here’s the URL to download and install in Firefox.
I’m not a serious audiophile anymore but I’ve discovered that the type of earpads can affect the sound quality of large, studio-style headphones. It’s quite remarkable, and good aftermarket earpads are now available that can improve on the original sound. I think the key is the little folds or creases on the leatherette material of the newer ones that prevents them from sealing too tight and causing a ‘cabin gain’ effect on the side of your head with consequent boomy bass tubby low-mids.

In the Internet Explorer menu bar, go to tools, internet options, security tab, click Custom Level button. Scroll down to Scripting, disable the three scripts there, ie. Active scripting, Allow paste operations via script and Scripting of Java applets.
Tools, Options, click on the content (globe) Icon the uncheck, Enable Java script and Enable Java

re: #26 by Moe Katz
What are the drawbacks of installing a script blocker?
re: #32 by Bunk X
None, really. NoScript will ask you if you want to give permission for a particular site and what kind of permissions you want to give. So you always have a choice and can authorize certain sites to be completely unblocked.
re: #33 by Moe Katz
Cool. Kinda like ZoneAlarm.

Very effective and doesn’t seem to slow anything down. It’s updated very frequently; updates just take a moment to run.
sorry, reposting as upon further review, this is pretty interesting:
LGF loaded fine for me.
I’ve been investigating.
Charles has a thread up, suggesting that a man named John Gimbel, aged 59, is a right wing extremist because he sent an email threatening to kill Obama and his family.
I did a little research, something Charles may want to look up in a dictionary, and found out some interesting things.
First, I don’t see him as a ‘right wing extremist’ . . . just a scumbag nutball. Why? Because he also made threats against President Bush and against Police in general:
So the cops involved, who deal with this nut regularly say that he’s non-partisan. That took 1 minute of research. I spent the next 5 or 6 looking for a picture of Mr. Gimbel. Couldn’t find one. Anywhere. At all.
I did find this, though, which is an offensive and racist screed he submitted for a lawsuit against the County he apparently lived in, for arresting him for calling for cops to get assassinated by people with ‘deer rifles’.
Most of it is the unreadable rantings of a hateful soul. But near the end, something caught my eye. I could be wrong, and if someone has pictures of this guy that show otherwise, I’ll gladly admit it…. but the left keeps trying to push this ‘They hate Obama because they’re racist” stance…. and this guy calls himself “the greatest nig who ever lived.” and referred to some Saundra Armgstrong as a “black-cracker”
…. is Gimbel Black? If so, is the press (which will not show his picture) and lgf passing off an insane black man who hates authority as a ‘racist right winger’?
re: #36 by LanceKates
Great research, Lance!
You are probably right.
The MSM is known for withholding racial information in stories as a way to advance their liberal agendas.
Liberal blogs do this, too.
re: #37 by Eliana
I just wish I could find a picture of the guy. Unfortunately it is a common enough name that it pulls up lots of people from all over, but none I could find in CA. I even tried searching for mug shots in the SFPD system and the general county sites. nadda.
re: #37 by Eliana
The left-liberal Toronto Star could be the worst I’ve seen for withholding racial information in the service of their political agenda. They do this systematically—for example, two suspects 5′10″ and 6′0″ with dreadlocks and wearing tracksuits are sought….
re: #38 by LanceKates
If this man is being described as a right wing extremist although he also threatened the life of President Bush, then it sounds like a good thread topic for Blogmocracy.
One of the problems we’re facing is the constant smearing of us by liars like He Who Must Not Be Named and other radical leftist blogs.
re: #40 by Eliana
That’s why I want his picture before I post it, so it is wholly unable to be cast aside as conspiracy.
re: #394 by LanceKates
good work…
I found this…
“Federal authorities visited Gimbel in 2007 as well, after he threatened to “kill Bush and his family. Decapitate them with axes.” During the visit, Secret Service agents interviewed one of his sisters, who said Gimbel was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was troubled after being discharged from the military. Documents also note that Gimbel owns several guns.”
The guy is a diagnosed PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIC!!!
Maybe Chucky should have done that research… I would love to see a picture of this guy a the coup de grace
John Gimbel has a record of threatening to kill government officials:
April 2004: Gimbel is accused of making threats in an e-mail complaining about a $5 parking ticket, saying he would deputize “all of the citizens of Crescent City. … Grab those high-powered deer rifles, each and every, and get in groups of 50 and more and go breeze away to dust the skull of the police chief.”
May 1, 2007: Gimbel sends an e-mail to NBC Universal to “kill Bush and his family.”
May 7 and 13, 2007: Gimbel sends e-mails to 80 U.S. representatives and senators asking them to kill President George W. Bush.
May 14, 2007: The Secret Service visits Gimbel at his Crescent City home. He tells them he
is “harmless.” He said, “I just make ugly comments.”
June 2007-June 2009: Gimbel sends more than 20 threatening e-mails.
Sept. 7: Secret Service once again visits Gimbel.
Oct. 13: Gimbel is indicted for threatening President Barack Obama

ALL thoe other stuff before 9/7 is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is that he threatened Zero

A quick question for any IT minded folks.
Why can’t I update anything?
I seem to be able to download everything else.
Am I infected or is it an ISP issue? (Comcast)
I thought maybe it was just Microsoft, but my Trend won’t update either. And I can’t get to any anti-malware sites.
It’s been a couple of months now and I’m sick of the warning messages.

Morning Goddess,
I am feeling very ‘fluish today. But onto more important topics, the reason why Limbaugh and Beck are being vilified is because they are recognized as a threat, not an irritation, but a real threat to their illiberal regressive s nefarious agenda.
Good Morning.

re: #79 by African Moondog
The speed and severity with which Rush Limbaugh was smeared and ousted is downright scary.
The NFL is a slave to identity politics, and it saddens me because it is something that I enjoy very much.
It’s also disheartening that no voices from within or around the NFL have come to his defense, or if they have the sports media hasn’t made it public.
re: #53 by Bunk X
Charles did in fact defend Obamas vote to not support the BAIPA, which would have mandated medical care for a newborn resulting from a botched abortion.

Work is trying to make me ask for donations to the UN’s World Food Programme with each order.
I won’t do it.
When customers ask, I suggest a local religious charity. I even shake my head at customers when other employees ask. As a manager, I’m hoping that it gets the little numbskulls to think about something before doing it, and maybe even do some research.
FNC just showed the results of a poll, in which Obama in a garnered 43% in favor of his reelection, with 47% for “someone else.”

Not NCIS!
Yuck.
re: #102 by vagabond trader
There are at least SOME of those volunteer opportunities that, IMHO, would be worthwhile. One that popped up in my area: volunteer reader/book drive organizer. It’d be interesting to go though the entire list of opportunities in an area and see what % of them could be labeled as ‘left wing’ (Planned Parenthood for example), what would be more ‘right wing’ (a Christian ministry promoting abstinence for example) and what would be ‘neutral’ (volunteer reader, work at a hospice or mentoring kids who have a parent in prison).
Still, it’s not the role of Uncle Sam (or Uncle Barack) to push us into these things, and it’s sure as h-ll not ‘volunteering’ if you’re going through that stupid AmeriCorps program.
re: #105 by mfhorn
To the progressives, it’s still volunteering when you bribe the people to volunteer.

re: #107 by vagabond trader
Oh I’m sure the TV shows are going to push, some subtly, some not so, more left-wing opportunities. And like you said, it’s not the role of the government to push this at all.
Kids should find the things that they’re passionate about, not what the Chosen One or some Hollyweird type pushes them into.
