    ‘I don’t get it.

BHO attended a church for 20 years in which Wright was a leader.

Now, pleaee apply that to the GOP.’

I certainly wouldn’t make any excuses for Wright, nor for Obama’s long association with him. It appears that one of the defenses offered during the campaign, that Obama went to Wright’s church purely to advance his Chicago political career, is actually true. This was cynical and sleazy, to be sure, but it was not dangerous: The sincere acceptance of Wright’s detestable principles would have been dangerous. This is borne out by the ease with which Wright was tossed under the proverbial bus during the election campaign, and his ideology’s apparent lack of influence on the administration.

Rev. Wright can’t even come close to the reach of James Dobson:

As part of his role in the organization, he produces Focus on the Family, a daily radio program which according to the organization is broadcast in more than a dozen languages and on over 7,000 stations worldwide, and heard daily by more than 220 million people in 164 countries.[3][1] Focus on the Family is also carried by about sixty U.S. television stations daily.

Pragmatism in politics is reality, but did Obama really think he was heading for the presidency when he listened to Wright’s crap all those years, or did he think he was heading for a lucrative council spot?

The cynic in me is coming out./

I think you’re right. Keep in mind that Obama had been a member for many years before his national aspirations first started to develop. By that time, he was basically trapped, unable to alienate his Chicago base by leaving Wright’s church until he had enough national support not to need them anymore. He had to muddle his way through and hope for the best, which turned out to be the right course. Without the economic meltdown, it might well have cost Obama the election though.

With much up dingleberries all around.

It will be interesting to see what the September sitemeter numbers come out. My guess is that he has a spike while the train was burning and people were a) gawking and b) trying to pull out survivors and get them to other blogs. October through the end of the year should be interesting. Given that folks here are probably the most die-hard because of the attachment they had to the community that was formed there and are yet burning out on the subject (although, given the last thread, the subject is not completely dead), how much more so other blogs will be pretty much ignoring the nonsense over there. re: #65 by Lost

Hamas TV has other music videos and clips that teach Gaza children to want to die while killing Jews.

One of the worst ones is the dramatization of a four year old girl who finds out that her mother has become a suicide bomber and wants to join her by becoming a suicide bomber, too. This is based on a real incident where a mother of two young children killed herself at the border crossing between Israel and Gaza several years ago.

The woman had claimed to be setting off a metal detector due to an artificial leg and she asked for a private room so that they could protect her modesty while making sure that she had an artificial leg. When they got into the room, she blew up and killed the people who were trying to be kind to her.

This woman’s children are being used to promote suicide bombings to children in Gaza and they got a child actress to play the part of the four year old who wants to commit suicide in a music video.

By the way, it turned out that the woman with the two young children who killed herself had taken a Hamas terrorist lover in a plot arranged by the husband. When the husband said he knew of the love affair, she essentially had a choice between an honor killing and becoming a suicide bomber.

It was the husband’s way of getting rid of her because he didn’t want to be married to her anymore. It’s being promoted as a glorious way to die by suicide for the sake of the “Palestinian” cause to the children of Gaza.

It goes so far beyond sick that it’s hard to explain with words.

P.S. Fatah has videos that teach Pal children that they should want to commit suicide to kill Jews, too.

The way I look at it, there are no moderate Mohammedans. There are moderate Arabs, Persians, what have you, but part of their moderation has been renouncing Islam (the Devil and all his works). MOhammedans all buy into the Jihad, the idea of subjugating the world under an Iron glove of Sharia, and that ’splodeydopes and other terrorists are martyrs in a Holy War.

They raise their children to believe that the way to the best groupsex in the afterlife is to commit suicide in a manner that you murder those around when you go. Islam is a sick, twisted religio-ideology. People talk about modernizing or reforming Islam, but I don’t believe that can be done. Until the Mohammedans quit teaching their children that they should let the Koran guide their lives, actions, and even manner of their death, moderation cannot come.

Israelis appeared before a Senate hearing several years ago with videos showing that Fatah (a group regarded as “moderate peace makers”) shows videos where 11 year old girls wax poetic about how wonderful it would be to commit suicide to kill Jews.

Hillary was a Senator then and she said that Fatah (Mahmoud Abbas) should stop these videos.

She’s in a position to insist on it in her current job as Secretary of State (and she definitely knows about these videos) — but she isn’t saying a word.

Islam and Judaism share the feature that religious authorities give guidelines on the interpretation of scriptural passages. If Muslim religous authorities want to say that Qur’anic passages on jihad are allegorical, or have been superseded and must be regarded as inoperative, they can so rule, just like rabbinical authorities. In that respect the argument that Islam is intrinsically violent and irredeemable is faulty, despite the nastiness of the texts.

By the way, the health insurance companies have finally come out swinging after having spent all year at the Democrat table trying to show some support for the Democrats’ health plan in the hopes that it might save their lives to have some input.

    It’s about time!

WASHINGTON — The insurance industry sharply escalated its criticism of the Senate health care bill Sunday, charging that the legislation would shift costs to privately insured people, raising the price of a typical policy by hundreds — if not thousands — of dollars annually.

A spokesman for Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., whose 10-year, $829 billion overhaul plan faces a final committee vote Tuesday, questioned the credibility of the late-innings cost estimate. “It’s a health insurance company hatchet job, plain and simple,” said Scott Mulhauser.

Until recently, the health insurance industry has been working behind the scenes to shape legislation, while publicly endorsing President Barack Obama’s goal of affordable coverage for all Americans. The fragile alliance is growing strained as legislation advances toward floor votes in the House and Senate.

Late Sunday, the industry trade group America’s Health Insurance Plans sent its member companies a new accounting firm study that projects the legislation would add $1,700 a year to the cost of family coverage in 2013, when most of the major provisions in the bill would be in effect.

Premiums for a single person would go up by $600 more than would be the case without the legislation, the PriceWaterhouseCoopers analysis concluded. The study was commissioned by the insurance group.

“Several major provisions in the current legislative proposal will cause health care costs to increase far faster and higher than they would under the current system,” Karen Ignagni, the top industry lobbyist in Washington, wrote in a memo to insurance company CEOs.

The study projected that in 2019, family premiums could be $4,000 higher and individual premiums could be $1,500 higher…

Egypt (in a cold peace with Israel) has had a 41 part mini-series based on “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” showing for years and it’s been all over the Middle East, including in Iran.

State run newspapers in these cultures have political cartoons showing evil hooked nose Jews who are described as the sons of pigs and monkeys.

We say “Judge them as individuals” and that is a mighty fine sentimate, but we simply cannot do that. We make general assumptions based on group characteristics. Should we judge individual members of, say, the Ku Klux Klan and try and see the good along with the evil, or do we say “He’s in the Klan, I know all I need to know to know he’s a bastard”? How is Islam different? Sure, there may be individuals who aren’t that dedicated a muslim, and so they don’t hold to the strictures of the Koran, but these people can hardly be seen as “devoute”.

Perhaps a better way of saying what I am trying to get across here is that devoute muslims and extremist muslims are the same group. Those who aren’t supporters of the Jihad (and not that I’m including giving to Mohammedan charities as support for the Jihad; there have been so many of them caught funnelling money into terrorist organizations that I don’t believe that one could give to any of them in good conscience) are not considered “devoute” by the majority of the Muslim community, and probably don’t consider themselves to be terribly devoute.

    “Irrational ancient feud?”

Please don’t let your desire to judge people as individuals work against you when it comes to understanding what’s going on in the Middle East.

There’s nothing irrational about fearing suicide bombers and building a fence to keep them out.

You want to judge each person as an individual and I do this myself (when I’m faced with one individual at a time).

When Israel is faced with a culture that sees Jews as the sons of pigs and monkeys while this other culture also believes that the absolute height of morality is to commit suicide while killing any possible Jew that one can find — it is TOTALLY RATIONAL to be engaging in tens of billions of shekels per year in self-defense.

    This isn’t a silly squabble.

Jews in Israel don’t want to kill anyone (or convert anyone) who isn’t Jewish. Jews are in Israel to try to live.

At the height of the last Intifada polls were showing that up to 80% of the Pals were supporting suicide bombing as a tactic. Unfortunately, Eliana is right. Probably only a minority support it now, but only because it didn’t work—there doesn’t seem to be any widespread questioning of the morality of it.

    Absolutely right.

The argument is that it hasn’t helped the Pals or that it only gives Israel reasons to fight back.

There was a situation in around 2005 where a 16 or 17 year old boy was given a suicide bomb belt and he couldn’t make it to Israel so he blew himself up alone on his own side of the security fence.

His parents were LIVID that he was given a suicide bomb belt. They said that the terror group should have waited until the boy was 18 (and ALSO that the terror group should have waited until it was more likely that the boy could have made it into Israel).

They weren’t angry that their son had died. They were angry that he couldn’t take any Jews with him. They said that the bombing attempt should have been delayed until there was a better chance for the boy to make it inside Israel to blow up.

    This is a cultural problem.

Poll results depend upon the source and the way the questions are asked. The number seemed high, given that most of the folks in the region are just trying to make a living.

Yes, you are wrong. You are trying to see it as a two-sided quarrel, which it isn’t. There was no anti-Muslim violence from Jews in Palestine in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The conflict began with Muslim attacks on Jews for religious/nationalistic reasons. During the British Mandate up to 1948 the vast bulk of the violence was arab-on-Jewish; this is in the British colonial records and can be verified. It’s against the Muslim religion for a non Muslim political entity, no matter how small, to exist in Palestine. Palestine is supposed to be the domain of the Jerusalem Waqf, and all of it must be Sunni Muslim.

Well, I am another one that has drifted over here and have checked out Kirly’s blog of the banned as well. I never posted very much but surely did appreciate the lively debates and humor. It helped me to solidify my thoughts on a lot of different topics. It’s nice to see so many familiar names here (as well at Kirly’s). Kind of like running into old friends. I am still registered but under a different nic. Since I posted so rarely, you probably wouldn’t recognize it. I could probably flounce but anything I said would just be deleted. It has gotten to the point where I check the thread titles, decide that I am not interested – or get a little angry – and proceed to the link viewer. However, that’s not very good anymore. There used to be a lot of links listed from a great assortment of sources and now the variety is gone as well as the quantity. It’s sad. I am thinking about turning my LGF t-shirt into a dust rag.

Eliana– You’re misreading me. The animosity between the arabs and jews goes back centuries. Am I wrong?

Yes, you’re wrong in the way you seem to see it as a mutual animosity.

Jews lived as an oppressed minority in the Arab lands for 1400 years after Islam was founded until the founding of Israel when 900,000 Jews fled the Arab lands. 600,000 of these Jews immigrated to Israel.

The Jewish communities in the Arab lands for 1400 years after Islam started didn’t have the luxury of feeling animosity towards their Muslim overlords.

If a Jew held his hand over his face to protect it from Muslim spit, the hand was cut off as a punishment for “aggression.” So Jews let themselves be spit upon.

In Egypt, people used to talk about how Muslim children would throw little rocks at the Jews as they passed — so the Jews walked quickly.

It’s not peer-to-peer animosity when one group is just trying to stay alive while under the thumb of the other group.

When the 600,000 Jews from the Arab Muslim lands immigrated to Israel, they fell wildly in love with their new freedom. They didn’t care about the overlords they’d left behind (except for when the overlords sent armies to push them into the sea at various times).

    See what I mean?

In any case, I’d like to leave this place the way it is for now, following as closely as possible the original LGF format and traditions, which works well for me and for others transitioning from LGF. What we have here is all that was good about LGF without Charles and his minions, and that’s just fine for me.

Yes, I agree with you, for now this format works. You notice how the sports threads stay on topic!

however… because of the history this site is the number one bounce site of the banned. This is the place where the banned go to re-link with friends.

We had a problem a while ago where registration was broken and I think many of the banned at that time got lost.

Think of this as a half way house… a clearing house…. a focal point of the newly banned.

Some then move on, many stay here.

“”Perhaps Charles developed something novel and worthy that way”" No, not really…. even gardening forums turn into chat rooms after a while. Trust me on this!

The irony of these stupid objections to Rush Limbaugh being part owner of an NFL team is that conservatives are more likely to follow pro football than liberals.

Libs see football as being too violent (and too male).

Not all libs, of course, but the noisy ones.

There was a story some time ago (sorry I can’t find a link for it) that was a table listing all the political donations made by owners, the NFLPA, etc.

There were a few mostly-left donations, some down the middle, but a lot were to conservatives/republicans.

    I was a bit surprised.

    234 | October 12, 2009 1:49 am

In the conservative home where I live right now, there were two TVs on with one having “picture in a picture” going on so that people could catch the end of the Broncos/Patriots game in overtime while seeing the entire highlights of Week 5 before the evening game started.

We may have made some rude gestures towards the TV when Keith Olbermann’s mug showed up on it, but we didn’t flip out.

The Broncos won. They’re still undefeated.

The worst part about Broon is that he thinks he’s right. He’s not like Blair, who was an opportunist and knew he was lying – Brown actually believes he’s doing the right thing and when he’s caught in a lie, his reaction is “I wasn’t lying, I told the truth!”

You mean General Biden, who knows more about military Strategy than General McCrystal?

Newsweek thinks he’s a genius, though:

Joe Biden had a question. During a long Sunday meeting with President Obama and top national-security advisers on Sept. 13, the VP interjected, “Can I just clarify a factual point? How much will we spend this year on Afghanistan?” Someone provided the figure: $65 billion. “And how much will we spend on Pakistan?” Another figure was supplied: $2.25 billion.

“Well, by my calculations that’s a 30-to-1 ratio in favor of Afghanistan. So I have a question. Al Qaeda is almost all in Pakistan, and Pakistan has nuclear weapons. And yet for every dollar we’re spending in Pakistan, we’re spending $30 in Afghanistan. Does that make strategic sense?” The White House Situation Room fell silent. But the questions had their desired effect: those gathered began putting more thought into Pakistan as the key theater in the region.

No wonder the Obama’s handling of the war in Afghanistan is going all to hell.

Just a quick hello from one of the unbanned.

I started reading LGF not long after 9/11. Registered early on. Never posted much but checked it daily. Stopped reading when the creationist crap started crowding out the useful jihadi posts. Went back to see what the hell was going on when I read about the bannings.

In other words, the standard story for probably a thousand former casual but devoted readers.

I haven’t logged into my account in well over a year and a half so I am going to try to keep it active. (For all I know it may have been purged already, but I’m not going to try to log in to find out. But my IP has not been blocked.)

I thought about “flouncing” but what’s the point? Even if you make a good point in your final post, Johnless Narc Ho won’t consider it, and it will be deleted before anybody else sees it. Plus, he obviously is getting some kind of perverse pleasure out of banning former friends and fans, and I’m not about to feed that obsession.

So I know that this has been beaten to death and most people are getting sick of the topic, but I still would like to know, someday, what happened. He either made a cold-blooded business decision, or he’s got some serious emotional issues. His repetitive declarations that “I’m not hurt” and “It doesn’t hurt a bit” makes me tend toward the latter. It’s like he’s living the lyrics to “I am a Rock”.

Shielded in his armour, hiding in his room.

He is an island. And an island never cries.

    Cheers.

Yes you are wrong. The animosity is one way – the Arabs want to kill the Jews and the Jews want to either live in peace with them or be left alone. This is not the Hatfield’s and the McCoy’s. When Arab leaders (Sadat and King Hussein) decided to end the war, Israel responded generously. And yes I’ve seen polls form 2002 -03 in which vast majorities of the Palis supported suicide bombing as a tactic against israeli Jews. Eliana writes the truth!!!

More like a roadside rest stop where you write deep thoughts on the bathroom stall door.

Bunk X has hit on the essential truth about the Protocols, which is that it is not about the Jews.

At least, not structurally. Its present antiSemitism was edited in.

It was originally a long caustic satire, purporting to be an update of Macchiavelli, against Napoleon III.

It’s as if someone took the Screwtape Letters and replaced Screwtape with “Herschel” and Wormwood with “Irving”.

LGF is more of a chat room where when you speak your mind you get shown the door.

Would the totality of banned lizards reach genocide? Reptilocide? I’m sure there’s a tastier name for it. 500 in September alone is pretty staggering.

Of course, there’s probably no one left to ban.

What a crock. Sorry not to measure up to your deep thinking of the issue, but from where I sit the title includes the word ZION, which most assuredly refers to Jews and no one else. It is of no importance what the original intent was, it has been and will forevermore be recognized and used as a screed against Jews.

    re: #329 by vagabond trader

I’m not sure what we’re arguing about.

Antisemites took Joly’s “Dialogues in Hell” and rewrote it. Joly’s book had nothing to do with Zion or Jews. It’s antisemitic NOW because it was… rewritten. By assholes.

As Bunk X points out the Protocols could be rewritten again to refer to, say, Armenians. Even as a forgery Protocols doesn’t make its case, except to the gullible.

220 million people in 164 countries.

And he has more moral character, class, brains and honor in his little pinky toe than Charles has ever had in his existence.

There’s a reason for the immense following, chuck. Like there’s a reason for the immense exodus from your site.
