Obama roundup

Obama vows “relentless” U.S. pursuit of al Qaeda

“It should now be clear — the United States and our partners have sent an unmistakable message: We will target al Qaeda wherever they take root; we will not yield in our pursuit; and we are developing the capacity and the cooperation to deny a safe haven to any who threaten America and its allies.”

Obama Faces ‘War of Appeasement’ in Washington Over Afghanistan Strategy

Obama and his policy advisers are debating whether to escalate the conflict after already sending 21,000 more troops to Afghanistan earlier this year; that discussion is certain to take center stage when he hosts the members of Congress in the White House Tuesday.

In a 66-page document leaked to the Washington Post, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, wrote that tens of thousands more troops are needed to address a “deteriorating” security situation and maintain stability in the region. And during an Oct. 1 visit to London, McChrystal said that “a strategy that does not leave Afghanistan in a stable position is probably a short-sighted strategy.”

But the president’s National Security Adviser, Gen. Jim Jones, offered a stark difference of opinion on the 9-year-old war on Sunday, saying he doesn’t foresee the return of the Taliban.

“I want to be very clear that Afghanistan is not in danger, imminent danger of falling,” Jones told CNN’s “State of the Union,” adding that a troop surge is “just one option.”

I’m not sure this “Ron Clark Academy” (of moronic song) is actually a school.

Here is its website (which I don’t have time at this moment to really look into): http://www.ronclarkacademy.com/shop/index.asp

I wonder if this video is a result of the AEA “secret” phone calls.

Yeah This was discussed some yesterday but deserves a thread or 2 of it’s own. This is disgusting. Obama is destroying this country and all it stand for. He and his commie suck up friends are throwing all our principals out the window. I hate his fucking guts and all he stands for. And while I am at it- fuck the radical muslims who want both the USA and Israel to crumble. I hope I have been clear on this.

They are being used in such an egregious way by the thugs seeking more power and bigger bloated government.

Leave the kids alone you assholes. They need to study.

A little birdie told me that not everyone at LGF is happy with Irish Rose’s one-woman crusade against the “haters” and “stalkers” on other blogs.

In fact, one of the “elders” bitch slapped her for it. Poor Rosie. This is what she gets in return for for all of her hard work.

Another birdie told me that Sharmuta (AKA W-Lover, Imadhimmi, Polish Infidel, Brett Favre) of all people was indignant over the use of sock puppets. She originated the art of the conversation with one’s self at LGF.

Finally, I heard from another bird that Chaz has a super seekrit cool correlator tool to bust sock puppets.

And no, I do not have a sock puppet.

From the looks of the site and their pages heralding the SAT scores it seems that the students’ scores were average or right below.
    http://www.ronclarkacademy.com/test-scores.aspx

They also state that the SAT scores greatly improved as the school year went by.

Neighborhood wars were the best. We used to have iceball fights in the summer. Grab shavings dumped by the Zamboni and make snow balls. Put in freezer overnight and take out and put into Coleman cooler. The first volleys were actually quite painful, but as the ice started to melt you could hit from closer range.

Cool and dry are your friend. If the ammo is modern ammo, the main thing that can make it go bad is moisture (older ammo can have primer problems).

In general, if you keep the environment good for your guns, it will be good for your ammo. If humidity is a problem, you can buy dessicant at Wally World or similar. I have some experience at long term storage under sub-optimal conditions, and I was very free with dessicant. If you have any question about moisture, it is worth the (really trivial) expense to buy dessicant.

One further thing, from a friend of mine who’s dad is an OSHA guy and volunteer fireman. Don’t put large quantities of ammo in a fire safe. If there is a fire, ammo will cook off, but without a barrel and chamber to direct the round, it isn’t much of anything. If you put it in a safe, and the heat gets to be too much, the safe can trap the gas when it cooks off, and it can explode.

Average, or right below is not a good score, most especially for a private school. There is precious little learning going on there. Judging by the pic of the school’s staff, I would say it is the typical leftist indoctrination center, like the one seen in the movie, “Billy Jack.” Even better, it looks like the schools Obama gave the Annenburg money to.

    OT,

But we’ve been talking about ammo. Back of this someone posted on the Tactilite uppers, and I was checking it out. The .50 isn’t that interesting (I’d rather have an Armalite AR-50 for the proce), but they have it in .416 Barrett. That is interesting. Or it was until I started checking out ammo prices. Wow. The freaking bullets cost more than a buck apiece. That is just the bullet, not the case, primer and powder. Wow.

We have a 1000 yard range in town, but they won’t allow .50s. I thought the .416 might be acceptible, but, damn, I ain’t rich by any stretch of the imagination.

Maybe I’ll look at .338 Lapua. The Armalite AR-30 in .338 isn’t too terribly expensive…

We told her this and got shit for it, needless to say, from people who seemed to regard her as some sort of living saint.

After that people like yourself started to point out other ‘oddities’ – shall we say – in her worldview, not to mention serious questions over her honesty. This business with the sock puppet extends that freakiness further. Very, very creepy.

It doesn’t surprise me at all. Everything this idiot does is very poorly produced Kabuki Theatre. I also read that the White House Staff had to provide most of them with white Dr.’s jackets so they could be identified in the photo op as medical professionals. Holy cow, what a national joke this clown is. The only thing we are missing from his public appearances are Japenese actresses in that rediculous kabuki get up.

    re: #146 by Mars

    That is one tough situation.

Let me give you my experience and maybe it will help. First of all, I have always been truthful with my son and during the separation I told my son the truth about what was happening even if he didn’t understand it fully at the time.

Children understand truth better than most realize.

My X wanted me to allow him to stay over at her new lovers pad and I refused that. I simply stated that we were still husband and wife and allowing that would violate my vow before God. She threatened me with the law and I replied the law was not on her side. Before the state and God.

When the divorce was settled I had no jurisdiction to withhold her rights and allowed it, but I gave my son a clear explanation of the merits of my side. I thought it was wrong that she wanted him to participate in a thing that was clearly wrong in the eyes of decent society and God.

Your children need to know the truth and if you withhold it then the burden for not speaking the truth will your responsibility when it comes time to account for it.

I found LGF by happenstance in 2005. I registered an account in 2006. I did not comment much, (about 300 total in 3 years.) I mostly read comments by others, so I probably know you guys better than you know me. Once the conservatives started to leave, I started to fight back for my core principles. So most of those 300 posts were in the last 2 months I spent there. That being said, Charlie jumped the shark for me, and kept swimming back to jump more. How he could have misread so totally, what made his blog good, I’ll never know. I am willing to bet that about now, he is starting to figure it out. The shame of it is, I know from personal experience what it takes to start a successful business. Once you reach a model that turns a profit, generally speaking, you don’t want to destroy it. Charlie did that, and all the while believing he was making it better. Now, he’ll see how the left will not care about the fact that he is going to lose money, they will celebrate his failure. I hope he is a good enough musician to eek out a living at that. I don’t want my tax dollars going to pay his way in life.

Let me add my pennies for Mars, since every one has a different situation.
My ex(the daughter of Satan) didn’t really care about our daughters, they were leverage for what she could get out of me and anyone else.
I was her first of five husbands, she viewed marriage and divorce as a career choice.
I fought her with everything I had for eight years to try and get custody of my girls. We finally had a jury trial to settle the matter, after I had gotten them away from her for a few years, and then she got them back. It was brutal and contentious, with court ordered psychological testing, and social worker visits.
The day of the trial, my attorney got her to perjure herself within ten minutes. Her parents and their attorney called a recess. They came back and made the court a deal, that she would voluntarily relinquish her parental rights, if the court would sever mine, and allow her parents to adopt. They lived in the community, they knew many of the jurors, even went to church with some.
I lost, my rights were terminated.
However, I was able to maintain a distant relationship with my girls. They just always knew that I was good to them and loved them, and as they got older, gravitated to me and away from their mother and her family.
Today, I have a great relationship with my girls, and my grandbabies, and they won’t have anything to do with their mother.
If I have any advice, it is much the same as SADM’s advice, be honest with your kids. You may have to put up with a lot of crap, as I did, but if you are honest and real with them, they will know, and they will love and respect you for it.

Yeah, I’m telling them the truth, and they are embarrassed at their mothers actions. They hate staying with her, and want to be with me, but I’m trying to keep things fair for now. Unfortunately since we’re both poor, and I can’t get public assistance. (I make like 1.50 too much) she’s trying to claim them 60% of the time when in fact I have kept them more than that. I gave her our apartment because I had family and she didn’t. Plus she was hiding the children from me and the damn cops said that I had no way to get them back. (Apparently both parents have a right to access, but the woman, if she already has them, has superior rights.) So now we’re doing 50/50 but the child support office and public assistance are giving her credit for 60% when she’s lucky to have them 40%.
So translated I’m pissed off, can’t afford an attorney to do this right, and getting screwed by her every turn I make.

Lol, but at least I’m not in an abusive relationship like the house republicans.

Once you reach a model that turns a profit, generally speaking, you don’t want to destroy it. Charlie did that, and all the while believing he was making it better.

For a long time, LGF was a labor of love for Charles. It wasn’t making any money. I don’t know that it cost him too much in cash, but he put the hours in to improve it gradually as traffic built up. The community grew up around that. The heyday of LGF to me is when it was me and Geepers, PDM, Zulubaby, Sarah D., Mommydoc, HWMNBN, Ten Ring, Model 4, Reaganite, BabbaZee, and others too numerous to name. You have to put Gordon in there, I’m afraid. He took pretty much nothing but abuse during those years. Now he is probably to the right of Charles. I imagine he is amused, if he knows of it (and I suspect he does).

That changed a bit when Charles started making money off it, but none of us objected. Registration came about because the trolls got too numerous and too malefic to deal with. Nick-jacking was a big contributor (someone nick-jacked me to attack McGuyver, but he knew me better than that; we all knew each other better back then) to the push for registration.

The people who came after that didn’t know LGF the way we did. The times when we got silly, like when everyone switched to one-character nicks. There’s a lot of water under that bridge.

And Charles pissed on all that. For money? I doubt that. I don’t think he’ll make as much now that he is Kos’ bitch. Why go to LGF today if you don’t have a history there?

And if you do have a history there, while it may not be as long or as storied as mine, how can you not be disappointed and pissed about what Charles has done?

His blog, his rules, but if Michangelo had taken a hammer to the Pieta, wouldn’t people have at least winced? Hyperbole, to be sure. Hyperbole and violence are my stock and trade. Always have been. I have a theme song. It is by Motorhead. I don’t take myself anywhere nearly as serious as all the nancy-boys in SF that freaked out the first time I dropped by to visit. That was funny (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, ask Carolina Girl. She’ll give you the skinny).

A lot of water under the bridge.

My X, who is still a friend, has wondered out loud to me in semi complaint why he is detached from her. The wonder is no mystery to me.

We must all grow up and if the child is led on a straight path towards truth, finding it is much more easy for them than for a child that was mislead.

And this goes to the entry about children who are misused for an agenda that smacks of malfeasance.

It’s not just Iran and Saudi Arabia that has state sanctioned murders of gays. Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, UAE, Nigeria and Mauritania are other Muslim countries where gays can be legally murdered if convicted of their crime.

Just about every single Muslim country on the face of the planet is a hellhole for anybody who is gay. If somebody is lucky enough to be in one of the more lenient Muslim countries, they might just get sent away for a few years and up to life in prison or labor camp, depending upon where they are located.

Here’s a list that I found on wikipedia, covering the different penalties in each Muslim country.

    More richness from Chairman selrehC:

    14 Charles
    Tue, Oct 6, 2009

“If there’s one issue the GOP is on the wrong side of, more than any other, it’s the science of climate change. The Republican Party is relentlessly pushing propaganda that won’t just affect America’s level of education (read: creationism), but has far-reaching effects on the entire planet.

The reason I keep posting these threads is because we need to start understanding the science behind the warnings.

Ignorance will exact a very high price from our children.

And willful ignorance, as promoted by the GOP on this issue, will result in a horrible backlash when the truth becomes obvious, and the public realizes they were lied to, in order to keep the corporate lobbyist dollars rolling in to the pockets”

This is the guy who linked to a realclimate post as “proof” that McIntyre’s critique of Briffa’s dendroclimatology paper is “denial”.

Funny that. Briffa is taking McIntyre very seriously.

Exactly right. Sure, there are Christians who don’t act Christ-like (Matthew Shepherd’s murderers, for example, or that nutcase preacher who protests at funerals). I don’t know of anyone other than a handful of microscopic groups who would ever support execution of people for homosexual behavior.

Unfortunately, it’s situations like Matthew Shepherd which drive ‘hate crimes’ legislation. The left sees him as a victim because of his sexual orientation, just like they saw James Bird’s murder in terms of his race. Instead, we need to see both men as victims because of their humanity.

The Matthew Shepard case shouldn’t be used for shit. I was in the area when it occurred. Neither of the two punks are what should be considered “christian” they killed Shepard over a drug deal gone bad. The little bastards were both Colorado imports that originally came from California. Shepard was headed for a bad end anyway at the time, he was well known in the area for intentionally hitting on straight guys in order to provoke fights. Not that the other two were innocent, their drug usage and aggresive behavior had them on a lot of peoples lists. Everyone in the area knew about all of this, but once the national press got it, the truth went out the freaking window. A female friend of mine knew Shepard and said he liked talking about pissing people off.

Thank you so much for posting this Charles.

One of the things that many people miss in discussing AGW is the fact that it is not just that ice will melt or that it will rain less here or there.

Ecosystems are delicately balanced things. Everything really does interconnect. The global aspect of a global system always needs to be reinforced. It is not that there will be just one issue, so we can focus on fixing just that if we let this go unchecked. Dozens of crisis will occur simultaneously.

Proliferation of insects and spread of contagion are also major issues.

Consider that as plant growing patterns change and that as climate patterns change, all sorts of creatures will be forced to migrate. This means things that carry diseases too.

Consider that there are many more ways than just too hot, or not enough water for crops to fail.

When the scientific community is talking about massive interlinked global crisis, we mean it.

The sum effect is too many people with not enough food or water for everyone.

All of the economic arguments in the world can not trump the things that really have value at the root of any civilization: food, water and shelter.

There are also not enough trillions of dollars in the world or technology presently available to get enough food and water to everyone in a world that we let warm too much. The result will be war, famine, plague and death on a global scale.

That is a fact. That is not alarmism. If we do not change the path we are on, that is the future we are facing.

    No, that’s not a fact. That’s a narrative.

I don’t recall all the details, but the locals were pissed about how the press twisted the story to turn it into a racial incident. The press made sure their view was the one that took precedence just to sensationalize it, the perps were guilty as hell but it wasn’t a hate crime.

I’m not necessarily saying this is the case, but this should be considered.

Scientists may also say something so that they get more money for these research grants. Many scientists enjoy anything that predicts the “no-turning back” point.

Always have to look at it both ways.

You need to realize that the most important pressure on any real scientist is not the need for grant money — but the need to produce credible research that stands up to peer review.

If a scientist produces bogus results that are attacked and debunked by the scientific community, that grant money will dry up instantly.

And you know this precisely how, Chuckles? Ever had to hustle research grants, Chuckles? If you don’t get the grants, you won’t get an opportunity to do the pee review stuff, Chuckles.

Strangely enough I’ve been thinking about that today. (That phrase). Many Right Blogs have been linking to Alex Jones lately and I’ve been baffled. This man was a lying conspiracy nut under President Bush, why is he now something better to the right? We’re talking a man who takes pics of MAF sites, youth rehabilitation farms, and high security mental health centers, and then misrepresents them as Internment Camps in order to whip the fringe into a frenzy.
He was the enemy when GWB was pres, why the hell would I welcome his insanity now that the won is in charge?
The enemy of my enemy is still a lying rat bastard.

    1997 – 1998 – $147K from NASA
    2001 – 2004 – $150k from DOE
    2003 – 2006 – $585k from NSF
    2005 – 2007 – $150k from DOE

This is probably top quartile grant money but certainly some do better.

Interesting figures! Does anyone really believe that Evan DeLucia is getting rich from grant money? That money is expected to produce results, and that means lots of expenses for assistants, experiments, research, and all kinds of incidentals.

    re: #9 RealismRox

    . . . so that’s totally debunked.

Nothing in science is totally debunked, especially in an area as complex as environment. Carbon dioxide increases the above-ground biomass in most C3 plants (90+ % of species, including many major food crops), often by staggering amounts. The C4 pathway, which evolved to _concentrate_ CO2 does have decreased productivity. Maize is a C4 crop, so not without impact in the U.S. One paper in Science published in 2002 did find a decrease in NPP at CO2 levels > 800ppm in California grasslands as part of a multi-factor study, when NPP was extended to included the root-mass of the plant, not just the above ground portion (previous papers have shown significant increases in above-ground NPP in C3 plants to increased CO2. Mechanisms for the change were suspected to be nutrient limitations, primarily phosphorus.

In last Friday’s issue of Science, an article was published that should give many pause: I’ll do limited quotes, as this is copyrighted material, but do consider it appeared in a top-tier scientific journal — here’s the link for those who’d like to pay-to-read: [Link: http://www.sciencemag.org...

“The latest response from the climate community comes in State of the Climate in 2008, a special supplement to the current (August) issue of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society. Climate researcher Jeff Knight and eight colleagues at the Met Office Hadley Centre in Exeter, U.K., first establish that—at least in one leading temperature record—greenhouse warming has been stopped in its tracks for the past 10 years. In the HadCRUT3 temperature record, the world warmed by 0.07°C±0.07°C from 1999 through 2008, not the 0.20°C expected by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Corrected for the natural temperature effects of El Niño and its sister climate event La Niña, the decade’s trend is a perfectly flat 0.00°C.”

The article goes on to state, “Researchers may differ about exactly what’s behind recent natural climate variability, but they agree that no sort of natural variability can hold off greenhouse warming much longer. “Our prediction is that if past is prologue, the solar component will turn around and lead to rapid warming in the next 5 years,” says Rind.”

It also notes that solar variability is a wild card.

I do not doubt that the climate is changing, or that man’s activities have a significant influence. Heck, the climate will change without man’s presence — it certainty has done so in the past. I’m less certain whether we can argue whether the changes coming are good, bad, or a toss-up. I am even less certain that we have the ability to accurately model the consequences of such change, beyond immediate first-order effects. Do we risk what cap-n-trade entails economically on suspect consequential models? Rapid change in economic systems can also be bad.

Not a denier, but a skeptic of over-reliance on models (scientists are supposed to be trained to be skeptical).

So Chucky’s witty comeback is (you guessed it):

Anyone who knows me on this site, is probably aware that I have been a skeptic regarding AGW. By skeptic, I do not mean that I take the latest fly-by-night unscientific piece of garbage last employed by the screeching blogs du jour and use it as a fig leaf to cover my ignorance. But simply skeptic, as in, not having seen the data myself, not having known reputable and intelligible resources readily summarizing it, and not wanting to jump to conclusions before understanding the nub of the matter.

LVQ here has provided me with websites to consult, but even their data seemed a bit too divergent and scattered all over the place for me to acquire a coherent big picture of the science involved. So I just purchased two lecture series from the Teaching Company — the Earth’s Changing Climate and Energy and Climate: Science for Citizens in the Age of Global Warming. Of the two, I started with the first because its title sounded less alarming and emotional. I am about a third of the way into it, and I recommend it most highly to everyone here. (you can all google it.) The science is presented objectively and from multiple perspectives (data from ice core samples, isotopes, tree rings, coral reefs, glaciers, hurricanes, etc.) and there is no escaping the overall arch of the conclusions. I am very shocked at just how real the problem seems even when discussed in non-hysterical terms and can’t wait to reach the conclusion of the lecture series as things are finally starting to get very interesting in the science presented (feedback mechanisms, modeling, etc.) It will take me some time to digest what I am learning, but the revelations are overall disturbing. I strongly recommend the TTC series to anyone with a genuine interest in the topic, and who is too busy or skeptical to rely on information from random websites or particular studies. The professor is world class and he provides multiple sources. I further recommend the video over the audio as many graphs are involved.

    Life imitates levity.

$86,000 a year, even if that’s an accurate estimate, is a pretty low income for one of America’s top scientists. And I strongly suspect that his true income is lower than that.

As you know, I worked for the National Renewable Energy Lab for 13 years, the premier renewable research lab in the country. I actually know what salaries were made by climate scientist, but of course I can’t make that info public.

But I can refer you to an article that does discuss the general salaries of the scientist at the lab. When I was there, 1992 to 2005, we had an average of 800-900 scientist in the research labs.

I find that chart I linked to to be rather accurate, and these figures are not low balled.

Here is one public example, I can assure you all the science positions were similar.

Senior Scientist I – Materials/Chemistry Requirements: Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science with 5 years relevant R&D experience.
    Salary range: $48,000 to $126,000

Meanwhile in Jena, residents are getting back to their regular routines, where friends are friends regardless of race. Just as it has been all along.

OT: can anyone tell me how to get in touch with someone at Facebook with the power to do something about the group that’s using my trademark without permission?

There’s a page that’s supposed to be for submitting complaints of this nature, but it does not work.

It’s one of you stalkers, innit?

Walter, while often abrasive is a very honest poster from what I’ve seen. He has to be one of the few there with any rationality.

Now you know as well as I do that the EVIL oil companies are gonna dilly-dally with the results, while the saintly environmentalists would just accept the results. That’s just the way the world works!

    ///

Are you kidding me? The evil oil companies spearhead funding the denailist campaigns.

Do you think these things have never happened before?

    What about tobacco doctors?

Thats an effective scientific argument. Big Oil is evil, because they’re are private industry.

WTF has happened to that place? Bunch of F’n communist troofers.

Last year he was trolling on Spencer’s blog à la Killgore and being rude and nasty—and then passing on his results to Charles. I do have a bone to pick with him about that behavior, but perhaps now, with the most recent changes at 1.0, he’s seeing the light.

Strangely enough it has been the people an the supposed “right” side of the argument that have skewed the data and outright lied. Climatologists, and even the American Cancer Society. I’ve been reading some completely unbiased things on tobacco and it turns out things were exaggerated to an outrageous degree “for the public good”.
Just an FYI it doesn’t matter how much good your organization does, it doesn’t help your argument when you falsify data.

ps I don’t mean political right, I mean the supposed good side.

Yes. I hope so… I think he bought into the idea that CJ was honest and trustworthy on the issues regarding RS (like I DID… sigh…). Walter was very proud of trotting out his e-mail and RS’s response in those day’s. I think he is intellectually honest enough to admit a mistake from what I’ve seen. Alas, who knows? I’d like to see his Snork when he realizes he’s been played for a chump, that’s for sure!

The Facebook page uses the old Cox and Forkum logo. If they have permission to use the logo from C&F, I doubt if selrahC can make a case, prior use and all. From what I understand he Trademarked his current logo.

If any of you are in contact with the owners of that Face Book page. Let them know, all they have to do is to replace the logo with something different, just to be on the safe side.

You mean like that famous second hand smoke “research” that was used to pummel companies into making their businesses smoke free? And gave state and local governments a weapon to ban a legal activity because they know what’s best for you?

    Its quite simple really.

OBAMA = ACORN, ACORN = OBAMA

Therefore OBAMA + ACORN = ACORN Squared = Incompetent Racist CORRUPTION

OBAMA + UNIONS = Incompetent Racist Communist CORRUPTION

OBAMA + ACORN + UNIONS = ACORN Squared + UNIONS = Incompetent Racist Corruption Squared + Communism = Destruction of the USA as we know it.

    Mmm Mmm Mmmm
