This has to be the most dramatic showdown of the season. Brett Farve who played for the Packers for 16 years as Quarterback, is now with their rivals: The Minnesota Vikings. It is bad enough that the 2 teams are historic rivals, but now with Farve being on the other sides, it changes the equation. There will be so much emotion on both sides of the field due to the Brett Farve Drama.
The NFL’s version of the perfect storm is about to hit the Metrodome.
After a week of buildup, hype and denial of a quest for revenge, Brett Favre is finally going to get the chance to face his former team. And did we mention the Vikings will be playing host to the Packers, too?
Try as Favre might to downplay the magnitude of tonight’s matchup –”It’s just another game,” he said with a straight face last week — there is no denying what this means. Not only to Favre but to many others who have eagerly anticipated an event that will be as much theater as football. The scorned superstar, playing for his former team’s arch-rival, given his chance at redemption on a national stage.
It is so ironic that Brett Farve who was a hero in Green Bay, will now be the villain. He has been called a turncoat and a traitor. The drama will make this awesome Football!
Enjoy the game!

Being a Jet fan I hope Farve gets his ass handed to him. And since this should be a great game–that usually means it will be a stinker?

re: #18 by Buckeye Abroad
Hey, man! In case you missed it, there is big news on the Second Amnedment front here back home. The Supreme Court has taken up a case to decide the Constitutionality of the Chicago handgun ban. This one could be for all of the marbles. There are several interesting points of law that they’re going to be deciding on. I don’t know how they will rule on all of those points, but I think it is a fairly safe bet that they will rule that the Chicago ban violates the Second Amendment in some manner. The 9th Circuit ruled that the Second Amendment applied to the States earlier this year, and they did a real good job of demonstrating why that was the only logical decision that could follow in the wake of Heller.
I’m hoping for a “rights and privileges” incorporation under “strict scruitney”. If the Court does that, pretty much all State and Federal gun control laws are toast. It would put the Second Amednment on par with the First Amendment. That would be a wonderful thing.

And this is one of those times!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Here is my latest upcoming zomblog report:
Death Threats Against Bush at Protests Ignored for Years
Give it a look and tell me:
How can it be improved? Any comments, suggestion, criticisms?
Don’t be afraid to be harsh: I want to give this a “trial by fire” here in this thread before unleashing it into the wild and wolly world of the Internet. However harsh you may be, it won’t compare to the harsh treatment this is going to get at the hands of leftist blogosphere.
So let me have it! Tell me where the report could be improved.
Thanks!
Zombie spent a fair amount of time with both both. IMHO, they both thought they were smarter than zombie and would win he/she over to their way of thinking that Obama is trashed far more than Bush.
Zombie’s final posting did not please the LGF tag-team and they were vocal about their displeasure in zombie’s results. IIRC they felt used by zombie.
Lesson learned

Yes, I’m in Wisconsin, where Favre is regarded in exactly the same light we view CJ here.

With all due respect, I must disagree with you regarding the Second Amendment being on a “par” with the First.
As a lifelong member of the NRA, I remember when Charleton Heston gave the speech in which he said, much more eloquently than I can…..
“I say that the Second Amendment is, in order of importance, the first amendment.” “It is America’s First Freedom, the one right that protects all the others.” “Among freedom of speech, of the press, of religion, of assembly, of redress of grievances, it is the first among equals.” “It alone offers the absolute capacity to live without fear.” “The right to keep and bear arms is the one right that allows ‘rights’ to exist at all.”
“Either you believe that, or you don’t, and you must decide.”

Well, Lance, Green Bay is the smallest city to have a major league football team and the town “owns” the Packers – so they are intensely proud of the team. Even pre-season games at Lambeau are packed.
That’s a good and a bad thing. Packer games at Lambeau are a blast. On the other hand, because the Packers = Green Bay, people forget that the fate of the world does not hinge on whether the Pack has a good season.
In the ’70’s, when Dan Devine came in after the St. Vince Lombari and did a terrible job, I heard his kids were tormented at school, people left crap on his lawn – horrible stuff. The dark side of having a pro-football time in a small city where everyone lives and dies by the game.
I’ve always felt sorry for anybody born and raised there who doesn’t care about football. I’m sure those people move out as soon as they can.
(Not being in GB, I can be slightly more objective about things, although my heart is breaking.)

I’ve been experimenting with writing alternative history fiction set in a homebrew universe for a SF role playing game which I intended to serve as background material.

The Vikings are kicking bootey. Hide if your pants squeak.
re: #192 by Donna V.
I’ve always given Green Bay credit because when we say Green Bay Packers, it is ACTUALLY the GREEN BAY Packers….. they own it.
Most other teams are owned by ’some guy’ and they use a city or state’s name instead.
Minnesota has a Safety.
re: #198 by LanceKates
They are also not in the City itself, more like the Suburbs. Or in then Case of NY Giants/Jets, they are in another State!

Hey, you! I’ll have you know I’m fluent in pig Latin! I saw that!! Ix-nay!!
Really, much of the rage is precisely because he was so loved here. People wanted to remember him in his prime, leading the Pack to Super Bowl victory and they feel like he – frankly – p*ssed on them. He’s depriving them of a hero, of good memories, and so they’re very angry – here in Milwaukee. In GB, “anger” isn’t the word – he’s up there with Benedict Arnold. Hell, he’s up there with Pol Pot.

heh, basically requiring hybrids, since electric only isn’t suited to long trips…..
neither are hybrids, for that matter.
I rented a hybrid once for a trip I took to dallas. all the ads about the great mileage….. my chevy beretta gets better mileage than I did with that thing.

Science Fiction.
Oh, apparently The Rocky Horror Picture Show is returning to the Uptown Theater for Holloween and a monthly showing thereafter.
re: #206 by The Other Les
OHHHHH…. ok. duh. sf.
Uptown Theater… that’s an odd place to go to midnight showing of movies. People shouting at the screen, it’s a hoot.
re: #204 by Donna V.
I wonder when he’ll realize what he destroyed for himself in Green Bay through his actions.
Well, I’d rather have a root canal or go through colonscopy prep than watch another stinkin’ game like that ever again. Nothing personal, folks, but it has NOT been fun. Now, please excuse me. I’m going to bed and NO, I will not cry, I will not,…,
Oh, hell, I’ll live.
Good night, all!

Actually that was the original venue for midnight showings of TRHPS for-practically-ever. Saw it there for the first time.
This is really good. M, Rodan, Savage, you might want to do a thread with this:

How NOT to play with your dog.

People don’t realize the harm that can come to a dog from fetching a stick (or is that a long rawhide chew toy). Either way, a very bad practice.

All the stuff they say you shouldn’t give or do with your pets,…,I’m not taking issue with you but I always find that stuff startling.
About 10 years ago, I was letting my brother’s retriever lick the inside of a yogurt cup after I was done with it and he yelled at me. “Never give dogs dairy products,” he said. It was news to me.
The dog I grew up with was half collie, half spaniel and lived to be 16. We gave her milk as a treat, snuck liver under the table for her, gave her all kinds of junk to eat. Heck, we even gave her CHICKEN BONES, not knowing that that’s a very dangerous thing to do. Once she ate half of a 2 X 4 and another time she swallowed a dead bird rather than hand it over. Dog was tougher than nails, although come to think of it, she did puke alot. (And always, of course, on the living room rug and not the kitchen floor.)
We’d probably get time in the pokey for pet abuse now, but she was a happy dog.

That golden lab in the article I linked to was beautiful, though, wasn’t she?

The hate mails are getting angrier as the night goes on. Just got one from an admirer in Minnesota who thinks I’m lying about the increase in LGF’s traffic, and faking the numbers somehow.
As if I have nothing better to do. It’s really getting under their skin that despite all the smearing and the hatred, our traffic is rising.
During the most uncivil war, crowds would gather at the prospect of a battle. people would grab a picnic basket and go sit and watch the gore.
Nothing new under the sun princess, a crowd gathering to watchas you spin uselessly in the wind. How many socks in the last load? How many newbees flounced? You are a pathetic circus in a slow news cycle, figure it out fool.

Labs are wonderful. Retrievers are wonderful.
Dogs are the best animals.
And with that, I really will go to bed and think about dogs and not football.

Favre owed nothing to the Packers.
When the Packers drafted Aaron Rodgers in the 2005 draft, it sent a signal to Favre that the management (Ted Thompson) was ready to move on. They did NOT anticipate Favre’s 13-3 season and that threw a wrench in the whole thing.
Favre retired, shed tears, etc. but one would have to question if he was told “we’d love you back” while being escorted to the exit door. Drafting Rodgers, not getting other talent at other positions makes that clear.
So when Favre decided “Maybe I don’t want to retire.” (as anger grew toward Packers Management), he said they should release him. Of course, he would have signed with the Vikings immediately and would have made them a better team.
The Packers chose to play the games and Favre played along going to training camp which quickly became a media circus.
To placate Favre and the fans who would be ticked to see him benched or whatever… They decided they were willing to trade him to the AFC (Jets).
The Jets started great, finished poorly. Some was due to Favre, some wasn’t (I watched many of the games). Mangini is a TERRIBLE coach who rightly lost his job immediately after the season.
So Favre “retires” obviously not wanting to go back to the Jets. Then he is approached with a serious offer from the Vikings. The Jets moved on with a very nice draft pick in Mark Sanchez. They offer Favre his release, he goes to the Vikings.
Mistakes were made from both sides. Ted Thompson didn’t want to be seen as the guy who ran Favre out of Green Bay, but that’s exactly what he did. Favre wanted to play, but under better conditions (even lobbying for Randy Moss to join the team).
Favre doesn’t owe the Packers jack. The Packers, however, do owe Favre. He made them a winning team instead of the laughing stock they were pre-Favre…a team firmly rooted in the cellar of the division. Favre had ONE sub 500 (4-12) season with the Pack. Aaron Rodgers tied this already (6-10).
I dislike Ted Thompson’s handling of the Favre issue. He wanted Favre to retire and be done as this was the easiest road for him, but Favre wasn’t ready. I don’t know how this fact goes un-noticed by many. Yes, making press conferences with tearful comments of retirement and saying “all I can give” (burned out). The injury I’m sure played into the last one.
Either way, Favre is on the Vikings and Rodgers is the QB for the Pack. Time for both sides to move on and let the personal hatred go.
If one wants to dwell on that hate, however. The score right now is Favre 1 Ted Thompson 0.
Brett Favre may be the greatest football player ever to play the game.
EVER.
EVARRRRRRRRRR.
…and every time I think about the Atlanta Falcons trading him away, I want to cry.
Brett, buddy – I hope you win it all again this year. As a die-hard Vikings hater, I’m pulling for the Vikes with everything I’ve got this year. I once thought I was a Packers fan….turns out, I was a Favre fan.
GO VIKINGS!

I don’t think you know the whole story behind either of those relationships, from the sound of your post.
You can think whatever you like, I’m just saying it sounds like you don’t know the facts.

One small quibble with the original post: it’s spelled, “Favre,” not “Farve.”
My head feels like swiss cheese. Owwwwwwww…..
Warren Moon, Jim McMahon, Randall Cunningham, and now Brett Favre. Great quarterbacks don’t ever die, they just sign with the Vikings and fade away.
