At that time all of us still assumed that Charles Johnson was a friend of our movement. He had been invited to the conference, and we kept him apprised of what we were doing.When Dymphna and Pamela sent him our press release about the event, he immediately began attacking the Belgian party Vlaams Belang (Flemish Interest) and Sverigedemokraterna (the Sweden Democrats) for their participation. Several LGF commenters were primed and ready with disinformation provided by such extreme Left sites as Yelloman, Blokwatch, and EXPO. Charles Johnson used their material uncritically, without doing due diligence on it; in fact, he seemed to accept it at face value without any checking at all.

Charles Johnson made his substantial reputation back in October 2004 as one of the major bloggers who helped discredit CBS, Dan Rather, and the forged “Killian Memo”. Now, five years later, he has been brought low by the same sort of behavior — including using a blatantly doctored photograph in an attempt to smear Filip Dewinter — for which he so rightly pilloried CBS.
He has become the Dan Rather of the blogosphere.
Back in those heady days when political blogs first came into their own, the bloggers promised the MSM that they would “fact-check their a**.”
But what about the major blogs? Who will fact-check their a**es?
The answer, in a word, is: nobody.
In December 2007, after I posted the “suggested corrections”, I wrote to most of the major American blogs and requested that they take a look at the documentation we had amassed. I asked them to help us hold Little Green Footballs to account.

Looking back, that was a huge mistake. I had no idea what a narcissistic, megalomaniacal fool he was and just to what lengths he was willing to go to avoid admitting to having made a mistake.
My bad.
And it’s my bad even more because my voice, had I used it, would have carried quite a bit of weight. As an American with European roots I was in a unique position to explain to other American bloggers just how European politics work and just exactly why morons like Chuckles were wrong about just about everything.
I didn’t, because I didn’t think it was a big problem. I thought it would all blow over. I was wrong, and I am ashamed of that. I hate it when my judgment fails like that.
At any rate. I don’t belong in the “Hall of Fame.” Sites like Gates of Vienna did all the hard work.
And for that I owe them, we ALL owe them.
I won’t forget, and I won’t allow my judgment to lapse like that again.

The hate mails are getting angrier as the night goes on. Just got one from an admirer in Minnesota who thinks I’m lying about the increase in LGF’s traffic, and faking the numbers somehow.
As if I have nothing better to do. It’s really getting under their skin that despite all the smearing and the hatred, our traffic is rising.

I posted this on one of the dying threads but had a chance to go back and pick up more of the notes I got from a seminar several years ago given by a bible translator:
You have to be careful with some of those footnotes in the translations. For example, the NIV has a similar comment for one of the writings in Mark (Mark 16:9-20). Apparently that is true only for the Egypt manuscripts. One of these has a large blank space where something should have been put in; it looks like room was left for these passages, but the person copying the manuscript did not complete putting those passages in. The second manuscript finishes at verse 8 at the end of a page and the next page is missing. As this translator mentioned, sometimes translators allow their own biases to override what the actual words are saying. He did indicate that the NIV team did a really good job of attempting to avoid that by using a team from multiple denominations who were generally able to keep tabs on one another to ensure that the real words were translated as written and not interpreted in the translation process.

Great to see so many familiar nics over here from the halcyon days of LGF!
Wow! Social scientists and Anthropologists are going to be mining the blogosphere for years. What an interesting medium for studying social dynamics the blog phenomenon is turning out to be.
I’ve been really amazed to see this site take off as more people are banned at LGF. Congrats admins! I think it really does serve as a decompression zone for people who feel betrayed by the loss of a vibrant online community. I say this despite the negative propagandizing centered on this site done at the other place.
These past few months have certainly offered many “WTF” incidences from the other place (kudos to “Snork” for his eloquent chronicalling of same, btw! lol!)
– I had wondered what became of you E2m and missed your commentary over there– glad your here, and still enjoy your take!
Over the years I have really appreciated reading the commentary of most of you that are now here. I, like many, feel the need to get things off my chest regarding the current state of affairs. I hope you’ll indulge and bear with me…
My theory, FWIW, is that CJ woke up one day and found his “house” full of strangers and wondered “who let all these people in?” He then commenced to clear the “house” and say “the parties over”–albeit, very tactlessly…
I never heard him claim to be conservative and I know he didn’t like for LGF to be considered a “Conservative Blog”- which was fine with me. I and many others just expected him to be an honest broker— challenging the MSM snow job (and so he seemed for a season…) .
Unfortunately, the last few months activities have caused me to question the validity of MANY (most) positions previously taken over there. I realize that these and other points have been made by more seasoned, knowledgeable posters, but I feel the need to relate my observations…
To wit:
-The accelerated and arbitrary banning of thoughtful, intelligent, and humorous longtime posters, while tolerating the unbalanced, obsequious, and nasty personalities remaining (many of whom oddly seemed to have parachuted in at once…) Buzzsawmonkey is the ONLY one still there (I think…) that I’ll miss.
-The ever increasing paranoia and cult-like behavior– up to the full blown “Jonestown” type stuff of late. (”approved blogs”, I mean, really…)
-The “Trout fishing” over at Hot Air (THAT really tore it for me…) and the “Rose pedaling” over at ZombieTime pegged ALL the meters on my console: irony, hypocrisy, perfidy, credulity, BS, you name it– all meters broken! Cognitive dissonance, much? Things over there have become totally insane, more than simply a leftward lurch.
And, I might add, these are activities that CJ totally abhorred– when the shoe was on HIS foot.
I really don’t know if my old nic is banned or not– I don’t care. Pity that at one time I was rather proud to have an account there, no more.
Perhaps the “boiled frog” metaphor really struck a nerve since that’s the metaphorical plight of the minions who didn’t “jump out of the pot”…
Well, I’ll go back to reading and hope I can contribute positively here.

The Zombie banning was obvious for a couple of weeks. First, Charles disagreed with one of Zombie’s posts about one of Obama’s ridiculous czars. There was some piling on. A few people tried to defend Zombie but then Charles pulled out a switchblade and stabbed Zombie right in front of everyone with his famous statement: “If I said I saw Van Jones cheering for Bush [blah blah.....}" and basically just called her a flat out liar. After all the blatantly obvious risky investigations she had undertaken.
So Zombie, like the classy person she is, simply went away.
But that wasn't enough for the cretins that now populate LGF. The women [the same kind who start sending love letters to death row inmates] started searching other blogs. Finally, a few go over to Zombie’s blog and plant incendiary statements and Zombie supporters recognize the tactic and make some disparaging comments about Charles and his minions.
Then Irish Rose goes to LGF, flat out lies, and gets Charles all worked up. Now here is the thing we all know about Charles. He.cannot.admit.being.wrong. So he de-links Zombie. Then works himself into a fury that she is not ‘defending’ him “after all he’s done for her”.
Here is a summary of Charles’ comments in the sekrit thread. Keep in mind Zombie never comments on her posters and allows the discussion to go where it will. Unlike the person who thinks the correct way to run a blog is to censor everything to keep it clean which actually means allow the blogger to look smart by forcing posters to suck up and deleting all negative comments, different points of views, links to sites that refute something Charles currently believes, etc etc. So here is what passes for his thoughts on the Zombie banning:

That’s an easy one. If you ask the wrong questions using the wrong set of “facts”, you get the wrong answers. AGW fanatics start with the premis that Gorebal Warming is actually happening and it is primarily caused by human behavior. Those aren’t question, they are taken as given truth. But they aren’t given truth. Both claims are subject to questioning, and a real scientist would welcome the questioning.
When scientists start asking if this phenomena of Globall warming exists or not, then we can begin to get at the truth. When we question the role of humans in “climate change” we can look for answers that have meaning. When some people throw out some hypotheses and then declare the science “setteled” and beyond questioning, a real scientist questions their motives.

You seem to prefer purity of ideology, having all those who don’t accept certain point of view on all issues purged from the site (LGF or any site for that matter). There are plenty of terms to describe that sort of thinking. Stalinistic and Fascistic are the best ones to describe yours and LGF’s state and view at the moment. I’ll explain to you why, and I’ll also explain why our site is pretty much opposite of that.
If you read our threads, you will notice that people here have wide range of beliefs and opinions on wide range of issues. We have creationists, we have people standing staunchly by evolution and science (me, for example)… and much more. Other topics as well, we have people with different opinions and we can keep them without being banned for it. Sometimes there’s ribbing because of it, sometimes even a tad harsher word seen. But point is that we can come here, talk and debate, and we don’t have to be afraid that we fall victim of the great purge. Sure, there’s limit to the posting rights, as everywhere, but we agree to disagree on many things. I like that freedom.
LGF has none of that. You say wrong word and you get purged. You ding in wrong way – upding “heretic” or downding The Great Leader and his Disciples, and you get purged. Don’t post enough to show your appreciation to The Great Leader and you get purged. You may get purged just because he has sneaking suspicion that you might be sock puppet… even if there is no evidence of it. Or you just read wrong thread or visit web page that is not approved ™ by The Great Leader. This is very Stalinistic approach. Read books describing Stalin’s inner circle, and you will see the similarities. Heck, Stalin himself was more rational and flexible than Charles Johnson is.
But LGF could also be called fascistic, in the sense that Mussolini penned it. Totalitarian, authoritarian, seeking blog war after blog war… and many more. I suppose Charles has been that way for longer time than any of us suspected. Looking at the way he acted during Bush era and now at Obama’s presidency, he seems to be of the type to follow any leader fanatically, without questioning anything. That is not patriotism, by the way, that is fascism. Patriot would follow the leader, but should leader behave in manner that harmed the nation, patriot would not close his eyes, but would work for the good of the nation and oppose the harmful deeds in legal manner.
Oh, and these are just my opinions, not the party line of the blog. I am allowed to post here, yes, and I might get praise or rebuke for them, but allowing these thoughts (as they are not breaking any laws) does not mean that this is what everyone thinks. Heck, I would be disappointed if everyone here agreed with me. I don’t want this site to be just collection of lemmings who don’t think for themselves. I hope that this site continues to have lot of people with varied thoughts so we can through debate and communication expand our knowledge on issues. Bunch of yes-men cannot do that, which is why LGF is at dead end. If LGF was animal, it could stay alive only in a zoo, protected and bred by zookeepers.

Btw… remember Arctic Sea? The ship that was hijacked and of which there has been a lot of speculation on what happened (whether there were missiles to Iran and thousands of other possible explanations)? According to the owner of the ship it has been for days in the sea area near Spain and Morocco, about 100 km east of Gibraltar. Owner says that situation is weird and complicated, and that they don’t know who’s responsible and with whom they can negotiate to get the ship and the remaining crew back (4 of them are still there – and apparently ship is under command of Russian navy). Russia was supposed to hand the ship back in Canary Islands to its owners in mid september, but that hasn’t happened.

Anyway there are some pretty big legitimate objections to the conservapedia bible (and the iste itself, really). My own chief objection has been that they seem keen to take out the forgiveness parts of Jesus’ message. At least one contributor has claimed that the words “let he who is without sin cast the first stone” were added by monks some time in the 5th century.
The problem isn’t the concept of a new bible translation itself, though. In theory a public translation would be a good opne because it would bring multiple experts in the field together. The problem is that they’re using a wiki to do it, and wikis have a rather prominent failing: they breed morons. Look at wikipedia.

Heck, a LOT of my friends are what would be described as liberal and I don’t think they are the “scum of the earth”– politically deluded, yes, but decent people. Thank you vagabomd. Recognize so many nics here from the old place. LOts of good people whose posts I enjoyed over the years. Found 1.0 just after Rathergate and registered as soon as I could. Read it everyday. Was my first stop for years. It is an absolute and confounding tragity what has happened there but more then enough people have taken his advice abd started blogs that I believe that the spirit of what LGF’s was lives on in the best of what made it what it was – the pormed posters.

You left out petty. Over the past year or so Charles has demonstrated a stunning level of pettiness. Any tiny infraction of the rules scrawled on the inside of his forehead is immediate grounds for the most vitriolic attacks. He will brook no disagreement from his sometimes changing position. It is really quite stunning.
Worse, for him, is that he doesn’t seem to have any sense of humor anymore. Vitriol and bile are the dish of the day, all day, every day. That is pretty pathological. He should seek help, but like most people in the grip of mental illness he won’t. it is sad, really, but he’s worked hard to make sure that those of us who would have been sympathetic have ample reason to scorn him. He’s made his bed, as it were.

This is appalling. There have been worse examples, of course. Ruby Ridge, Waco, the kidnapping of Elian Gonzoles come immediately to mind. At least in this case the Federal police didn’t kill anyone or deport them to the gulag. They just put an elderly man if the Federal penitentary for two years for failing to have his paperwork in order for the orchids he was selling. That is truly frightening.
Note that the same people who were so concerned over the rights of terrorists in Gitmo and around the world had nothing to say about this travesty. Terrorists are sexy, while this poor man was simply meat for the grinder. Two years in lockup is a long time. Maybe instead of orchids he should have just imported herion or something. If you’re going to risk federal time, make the rewards worth the risk.

I started getting rattled when he turned on Pamela Geller and Fjordman. There was something eerie about those developments and when he won the pro censorship asshat award I did not disagree. I heard somewhere along the line that Savage was involved in a blog that was “batshit crazy and brilliant at the same time”, (Nogrod’s words), and went looking for it.
I was introduced to Gates of Vienna at 1.0, and have been a big fan for years.
Some of the best researched and written essays on the web.
I was a regular poster at GoV when CJ showed his pathology, and as disturbing as it was to so many, especially the Baron and Dymphna, I actually wasn’t surprised at all.
When I left that place, nearly four years ago, it was because of the owner himself. There was just something about that boy I found odd, based on his failure to act on some serious controversies brewing on his blog, but as well as his over reaction when he chose to act at all.
I know the difference between harmless crazy and harmful crazy, and CJs crazy was of the harmful kind, to himself and others. While I am glad to know my BS detector is still calibrated, I hated to see so many fine folks confused and hurt by this mans behavior, that many still wanted to believe was a rational man.
In an email exchange with Dymphna this time last year, she reminded me of the date in ‘07 when they were attacked and betrayed by CJ and some of his supporters. There was genuine hurt from that event. They tried in earnest to debate the subject with CJ, but he would have none of it, and thus began his petulant behavior we have seen since, calling anyone and every one that doesn’t toe his line as fascists, racist, or nazis.
The blog that fought back first, not only against 1.0, but many others, was GoV, and their’s was a righteous fight, as time has proven.
There is little I can do to alter the warped behavior of CJ, but one of the things I can do is what I have done since Jan 06, and that is I never give his site one single click. I’m convinced if all here who click on his site daily would not do so for a few weeks, months, he would wither and dissolve sooner.

I agree. When the initial dustup happened, I didn’t know what to think. I’m not familiar with European politics. My foreign studies have focused more on Asia (mainly China and Japan) than Europe. Being a busy man (aren’t we all) I trusted that Charles had researched what he was talking about. GoV was never one of my major stops, and they certainly did nothing to gain my sympathy, but I know Pamela Geller. Well, I’ve met her, at any rate, and she is cool. It troubled me to see the rift with her, but, as I said, I thought Charles was trustworthy, and he surely was certain about Vlaams Belang (whom I’d never heard of). The Odin’s cross thing was also out of left field for me, as I have diligently tried to avoid association with white supremacists. Sure enough, Stormfront has it displayed boldly on their web site. That was the extent of my research on the matter.
the rift with Robert Spencer was my first real heads-up that something was wrong at LGF. Charles attacked out of the blue on something that was trivial. Three degrees of guilt by association just won’t fly. If we apply that logic to Charles, he is affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan. How? you might ask. Thanks for asking. Charles is now an unabashed Obama cheerleader, and Obama is a Democrat. Kleagle Robert Byrd of the Ku Klux Klan is a Democrat. Therefore, Charles is affiliated with Robert Byrd, and that means he is affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan. He must be proud.
No one can survive that level of scruitny. Everyone has had some brushing acquaintence that was unsavory in one manner or another. I roomed with an Outlaw for a little while back in the early ’90s. That doesn’t make me a member, or even supporter, of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. Such guilt by association is assinine, yet that is par for the course from LGF today.
I was once one of the strongest supporters of Charles and LGF. I realize now that I was mislead. Duped, made a fool of because I failed to be sufficiently suspicious of someone whom I thought I could trust. That’s miles of water under the bridge now. Charles is revealed for what he really is, and that is not a pretty sight. I am glad I’m out of that mess now.

That about sums it up. obama is not a leader. He has never been a leader. There is nothing that distinguishes his service as a community organizer, nor his time as an instructor of law. He has no discerning treatises on history or Constitutional law, no experience with the military, or of running a business that creates wealth and jobs. He got his senate seat through dirty tricks, not brilliant electioneering, and as senator did nothing to distinguish himself as any kind of leader there.
Of course, he was only there for two years. He had more important things to do than craft legislation or, for that matter, vote on much legislation.
All of this was known when he ran for President. All of it could and should have mattered, but not even John McCain (maybe especially John McCain) was not interested in bringing Obama’s lack of leadership credintials up to the potential voters. It wouldn’t have been collegial to call Obama out as a mere follower, and McCain would rather be collegial than be President. That worked out well for him.
The only thing good about Obama not being a leader is that he is having trouble getting much of any of his agenda through what was feared would be a rubber-stamp legislature. As I consider his agenda to be harmful in both the short and long terms, this is a feature of the Obama Administration, not a bug.
we have had bad Presidents before, and the Republic has survived them. Jimmy Carter comes immediately to mind. But those Presidents were not facing such widespread and diverse threats to America. For all of Carter’s abyssmal failure in the Iran Hostage Crisis, he wasn’t facing a batshit crazy Iranina leader with visions of armageddon and nuclear weapons almost in his grasp. The USSR was a threat, and Carter failed to do anything substantive about their invasion of Afghanistan, but under Brezhnev the Soviets were pretty contained (although they were kicking our ass spy-wise. We wouldn’t know all of that until after the fall of the Soviet Union, if we know all of it even now).
Economically Carter was a disaster, but Obama looks to be shaping up to be worse. It took Carter years of diligent effort to wreck the US economy. Obama inherited a battered economy after the failure of the housing markets (thanks to the Community Re-investment act that pretty much guaranteed that housing would be unstable) and large sectors of the banking industry. The UAW has killed American automotive manufacturing, but Obama’s eagerness to put the United States at risk to prop it up is looking like the height of fiscal irresponsibility.
In short, we’re fucked. We’ve got three more years of this clown. we can offer a course correction next year, by returning the Republicans to power and then holding their feet to the fire so that they do what they are there for instead of passing the Return of PorkZilla as a gesture in congeniality to the democrats. If we fail to do that, then we are in very serious, long term trouble.

Read the article. The government threw an old man in jail for two years for not having his paperwork all in order for importing orchids. Not drugs, not guns, not for funding terrorsts, or plotting bombings, but flowers.
That is just plain wrong. If it could happen to him, it could happen to any of us. Federal law has become so overbroad that all of us occasionally probably break one law or another. Trivial bullshit, not anything that should be serious, but two years in lockup is as serious as a heart attack.

I started getting a clue a little under a year ago. One of my favorite posters on the LNDT stopped showing up and eventually was banned. No word about it at all, no flounce. I was talking with her on facebook and I was told that one of the reasons she stopped posting was because of Sharmuta beating on her for some reason. I stuck around because of all the LNDT people. When I had my shifts switched, I started seeing them less and less. Littleoldlady and Kenneth getting the stick was the last straw for me.

And at least here (here being Finland) doctors suggest that people use these pill boxes with separate sections for morning, evening and so on for each day to help them keep track on the pills they have taken. tfk should have been banned a long time ago, and the only reason he wasn’t was because: 1) he seemed to be popular with other users (why, I don’t know), and 2) several times when I was on the edge of banning him, people stepped in and made personal appeals to me to let him stay.
I had to delete at least a dozen of his comments for using outright racist slurs. He would post non sequiturs in the middle of discussions that came off as deranged. And now he’s posting at a stalker blog where they often talk about doing harm to me — and he’s sneaking back into LGF with sock puppet accounts deliberately to cause trouble, and then brag about his exploits at the stalker blog.

I think this is consensus among Biblical scholars, that it was “added by monks” into John. (That doesn’t mean the story is bogus.)
First, the pericope as found in John isn’t in John’s style. Second, in the earliest manuscripts of John, it’s not there.
On the other hand, the story is true to Jesus’s arguments elsewhere in the Synoptics (especially Luke): support for the underdog, condemnation of hypocrisy, and (for Luke) support of women in particular. It’s also in some (very old) manuscripts of Luke.
I’m inclined to think that it was part of Luke, and got pushed into John in a bid to harmonise the thought of the four gospels. It might alternatively be a survivor from a lost gospel, or just something from the oral tradition.
(I have issues with some aspects of Conservapedia; but if they’re on board with decent textual scholarship, then I’ll have to give them credit for that.)

I’m a female in my 30s, and I haven’t experienced any sexism at this blog.
There are other women who post here, and they’re treated with respect. At least one admin is a woman.

Sura was banned a few months ago, and one of his pet topics was homosexuality, one which this Alternativeview person also keeps bringing up.

Due to the fall (when Adam and Eve disobeyed God), when sin entered the world, it affected nature as well as humanity. That is why some people feel attracted to people of the same gender.
God commanded the first human couple to be fruitful and multiply, and that is, of course, something that homosexuals cannot do (that is, procreate without use of turkey basters and test tubes).
God loves humanity, but He does not love our sins, and God clearly states in both the Old and New Testaments that homosexuality is sin.
We need to hate the sin and love the people. Gays have enough stacked against them in our society. I do not want gay life to be a choice that can be made by anyone, yet I do not see them as anything but individuals.
A practice I recommend to all.

So everyone understands where I’m coming from, I am a Christian. Christ taught us to love our enemies (which isn’t always easy to do).
I don’t agree with Irish Rose’s actions and opinions. I know at one point she tried to get this blog shut down, which I think is horrible.
However, the excessive vitriol so many express against this woman (such as in post #690 and others above) -and some profess they don’t care if she kills herself, or they treat her apparent mental instability as a joke- is troubling to me.
She’s a human being with feelings.
If she is in fact someone with low self esteem and so forth, ripping on her like that isn’t going to help.
She probably doesn’t have many “real world” friends, and if anything, she needs to get away from LGF.
I seriously think Johnson is going to ban her one of these days, and if she does have mental health issues, she will need people to turn to.
I think it’s unhealthy the amount of time she spends at LGF. She seems to be very emotionally invested in that blog.
I think she thinks Johnson is her friend, but when the day arrives that he bans her, she will be beside herself.
When the day comes that Irish Rose gets banned from LGF, she will be further upset to see LGF people she thought were former friends mock her after she’s gone.
I dislike her actions, but I feel sorry for her.
Maybe if we were nicer to her here, she’d start to realize that there is something wrong with LGF and voluntary leave and join us here.

All I can say to your post is that you’re a better person than me. I try, I really try to care about people that try to tarnish my reputation or throw insults at me an my family. It would actually be more honorable if these “brave souls” would physically attack me. That would be honorable. I do find it difficult, in a world of BILLIONS of people, to care about one or two ungrateful and verbally abusive people.
If Irish Rose is unstable, then so be it. She should try to seek help. If I happen to see her in need of assistance,I would render it, but I’m definitely not going out of my way to help someone who slanders with glee, me, my family or my friends.
