This gentleman’s name is Sinh Tho Nguyen, a resident of Ft. Worth, Texas, but his history is more interesting than his current residence.
Born in Viet Nam in 1969 to a Viet Namese mother, and a U.S. Army father he never knew, Sinh immigrated to the U.S. in 1992. Since that time he has become a U.S. citizen, graduated from the University of Texas-Arlington, served in the U.S. Army, and earned his Masters degree while serving at Fort Mead, Maryland, taking night courses.
Just over a year and a half ago he got the idea to walk from shore to shore to thank America, and it’s military active duty and vets. Working as a contract meter reader in Ft. Worth, he was able to fund his journey with twenty five thousand dollars, and some good advice, not to cross from California to Texas in the summer. Sinh’s original plan was to cross from San Diego, California to Atlantic Beach, Florida, near Jacksonville. Instead, he reversed his course, and began his trek at Atlantic Beach.
As recently as 26 Sep 09, he was in Mesa, Arizona, with a planned arrival in San Diego by Thanksgiving, averaging about twenty four miles a day.
Sinh’s planned trip required a two week stay in Ft. Worth, as his badly battered feet required medical attention, due to the blisters and bruises caused by the heat, the walking, and the wearing of Croc shoes.
Carrying a U.S. flag, with a sign on his back which states “Shore to Shore, A walk across America to honor those who serve,” Sinh has an infectious positive attitude, and a radiant smile. Taking time off from his Phd program, Sinh has nearly completed his journey, and has found out more about the true nature of America for his effort. Not only is he expressing his love of this country, he has found many that share that feeling, and have given back to him what they could in support of his effort.
I hope one day I can meet with Sinh. His expression of patriotism is inspiring, and he possesses the gratitude that too many Americans have never known, or forget unless reminded.
While Sinh’s story won’t command the headlines that the latest salacious celebrity faux pas or our current president’s apology for America’s existence will, he is truly a man to be admired and respected.
For any readers in the Arizona or SoCal area, give him a honk and a wave for us all as proud Americans.

This is an amazing story.
For pete’s sake, someone buy the man some decent walking shoes.
I am impressed with this guy! That is dedication to what you believe right there folks.
re: #2 by Owl
I would bring in more people like this man and gert rid of the Progressives.
re: #1 by Rodan
It truly is.
A Viet Namese friend told me about him a few weeks ago, and have been following along as best as I can.
Someone we should know.
re: #2 by Owl
I know!
He was used to wearing them while reading meters, but for a marathon runner, he should have known what that pounding would have done to his feet.
Some good hiking boots would have been my choice.
What can you say? He is why this County is the greatest nation on the face of the earth! People like him who fully understand what this 200 year old experiment has been about and why it is worth fighting for and at least getting a couple of blisters for. May God Bless him.
re: #4 by no2liberals
I wish more Americans were like this man. It is ironic when Immigrants love America more than those born here.
Re number 7, Rodan, it appears that most immigrants would show more love and affection to this nation…one possible exception of course…
re: #7 by Rodan
I have so many friends who are immigrants here, and they are without a doubt the most appreciative and fierce in this countries defense.
Too many have always known peace in a free country, and take it for granted.
I was talking with a gentleman I know from Egypt, a Christian, and he has gotten into fist fights with others from the ME that don’t share his love of this country.
Sinh could have had a very bad attitude about this country and his life, being a “war baby.” The Viet Namese referred to children like him as “dust of life,” not even dirt, and treated them very badly. That he overcame that, and has accomplished so much, and now a walk that few would even contemplate, much less accomplish, says more about the good character he has, and the love he has, than anything I’ve seen in quite awhile.
re: #9 by no2liberal
He doesn’t have the victim mentality.
re: #10 by Rodan
Nope, even though he would have a stronger claim than most.
Most victims arrived there from personal choices.
re: #10 by Rodan
That’s entirely it. Whether anyone, but immigrants in particular, see America as good or bad has nothing to do with America, or even how they see America. It’s entirely determined by how they see themselves.

re: #14 by Nikis Knight
His positive attitude is amazing.
I found out about this guy from a Viet Namese friend of mine. When this is all over, I hope I get a chance to meet him when he returns to Texas.

Hopefully the Czechs will put the Lisbon Treaty down, as well.
re: #9 by no2liberals
People who are born here and not taught that it is a GIFT to be born an American and be FREE quickly become ungrateful and take their liberty, their country, their wealth(as a nation), and their free society for granted.
Thus, they dream of some utopian fantasy, when we have ( as far as the rest of the world is concerned) the utopia already.
re: #18 by Owl
We have our problems, but the foundation is strong, which few other nations can claim.
Night y’all.
Be excellent.
Mừng Sinh về
What an awesome attitude!
He funded this entirely himself from what most would consider a low-paying job. I bet he doesn’t view a big screen TV, iPod, or other “stuff” as necessities.
This is a person who has seen how bad things are elsewhere and comes here with a strong work ethic and the desire to succeed. *This* is the kind of person that should be the subject of social studies books in our schools, not the endless line of victims and “oppressed”

Btw…I could’ve sworn I saw someone that resembles Sinh here in Virginia near Alexandria ( as I was driving by)?? I saw SOMEONE walking with a backpack and an American Flag. I wonder….
God bless America and citizens like Sinh Tho Nguyen
re: #19 by no2liberals
exactly…but many of those born into this way of life don’t realize just how good they have it. that was my point.
And then you have Home Grown scum:
William Ayers grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago in a highly privileged family (his father, Thomas Ayers, was Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison) and attended Lake Forest Academy. According to Ayers’ memoir Fugitive Days, he became radicalized at the University of Michigan. During his years there, he became involved in the New Left and the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS).
Wish he would take a walk and keep going.
re: #7 by Rodan
It’s because we have never had to live under a repressive, murderous government as many of these immigrants have.
Some of the stories I’ve heard from new Americans, of murder, kidnapping, rape, torture (the real thing) and of forced entry at any hour of the night to lose a loved one, never to be seen again. The sometimes years of sleepless nights they have endured thinking that someone at any time could break down their door before actually believing that they were safe here puts into perspective what even I, as a born American, sometimes take for granted.
There are times that I am ashamed of the attitudes of my fellow Americans but then, I do my best to change those attitudes when I encounter them.
Seeing the pride and love that these people have for this country is nothing less than inspiring.
re: #28 by Rides A Pale Horse
Excellent point!
When Saddam was still in power, his older son was known to go to weddings where he would kidnap the bride on her wedding night to rape and sometimes murder the woman and/or the groom.
Some men who argued against Saddam’s policies would find their wives’ heads hung on the door of the family home as a warning. They couldn’t take it down until Saddam’s henchmen said it was ok to take the head down.
Liberals say about him: “Waaa! He didn’t have any WMDs” as if he should have been allowed to go on and on with his ways and then have his demonic sons take over after him for several more decades.
Most Americans who were born here have no idea what it would be like to live under a regime that would do these things as part of the normal functioning of the government.
Some Americans take our freedom for granted, it’s true.
It’s asham we have a guy in the White House that doesn’t feel the same way about America as this immigrant does.
A shame!

Yes, it is.
The bare minimum qualification for the job of President of the United States should be that the person loves America.
This is the first time we’ve had a President who doesn’t.
It’s awful.

re: #40 by BatGuano
Dang. I wasn’t trying to be snarky.
Type [shift/comma] blockquote [shift/period].
re: #33 by BatGuano
Good evening, Bat!
Easier way to format yer post is to do it within WordPress or Blogger, and copy the HTML after you’re done editing. That way you can embed links and stuff.
“Huh?>
re: #40 by BatGuano
Put the word blockquote in between the characters to open a quote. No spaces in between.
At the end of the quote, put the word /blockquote (with the slash in front of it) between the characters . Again, no spaces in between.
Give it a shot!
re: #48 by Eliana
Good evening, Eliana.
re: #47 by Bunk X
re: #51 by Eliana
Ok – part of my post didn’t show.
You need to write the words blockquote and /blockquote before and after the text you want to quote.
These words each need to be placed between the less than sign (above the comma) and the greater than sign (above the period) on your keyboard.
If you were using parentheses instead of the proper less-than and greater-than signs, your tags would look like this:
(blockquote)Text you are quoting.(/blockquote)
They need to be the less-than and greater-than signs, though.
re: #47 by Bunk X
Oh, I didn’t think you were being snarky! But I don’t know what a blockquote is.I’ll figure it out all!

Otherwise, just type quotation marks.

As for the Trib article, I think that’s a smack in 0’s face from someone. Everybody knows he’s for a public option, but now seems a rather inopportune time for a friendly media source to publish a piece saying so.

Although I’m pretty sure that if I were a coal miner I’d make a lot more money than I do now, so in that case a day below ground could also be good.

My guess is Zombie did not police his/her own comments section for anti-LGF sentiment. I don’t think Zombie actually flounced or anything like that, not that I’ve seen anyway. This is just a guess.
re: #159 by mfhorn
There was a whole brou-ha-ha in her comments section (you really have to rad the commetns, they’ve been liberally copied here yesterday). Irish Hosebag showed up, along with a few anonymous posters, ripping into zombie, accusing her of knocking CJ; she didn’t, but some commenters did, as happens now so often around the ‘net. There were the wails of ‘betrayer’, etc. It was a ‘Killgore Guppy at Hot Air’ move by the Hosebag. As stated above, the purification of 1.0 is just about complete. There circle jerk should be down to around less than 10 people now.

She called him on his bullshit when he was trying to defend the Administration’s token Truther, the radical Communist Van Jones. Thatshe knew this for a fact, but she couldn’t say how she knew it without risking exposing herself.

re: #169 by apachegunner
From hints years ago at 1.0, that’s what I, and many others, deduced.
re: #165 by Iron Fist
I’m not 100% convinced Jones was a ‘truther’. I think it’s just possible he DIDN’T know what he signed. IMHO, there was plenty of other lunacy in his background much more worthy of attacking.
re: #171 by mfhorn

re: #171 by mfhorn
Yeah, but the heading of the petition said something like, “9-11 Committee for Truth”
I think that Van Jones had a clue.
re: #172 by apachegunner
If you trust zombie’s work, and ever since Lebanon and the whole fauxtography thing (hole in ambulance where the light went, staged stuffed animals in rubble, etc) ‘her’ work has been gold to me, then I believe Van Jones is a truther. While I have no proof of this, I wouldn’t be surprised if Me-chelle and Barry have a little bit of Truther in them, too. Why else hire someone who was a Truther to work in the White House? Truthers feel comfortable around fellow truthers. It’s the nature of that beast.
re: #171 by mfhorn
I’m pretty solidly convinced he was, especially when you take zombie’s report into account. It is a position that would be consistant with his world-view. Trutherism is pretty widespread in the Democrat Party right now.
But there were many reasons to go after Van Jones. He’d have never gotten through the Senate had he been in a position requiring Senate conformation. I’d stand a better chance of getting through the Senate, even after I call Dick Durbin (D-al Qaeda) a traitorous fucking cocksucker for the Congressional record.
re: #174 by RickMZ

re: #175 by Iron Fist
Hadn’t seen Zombie’s report on Jones. I’ll have to check it out.
re: #175 by Iron Fist
i’m with you on that fist, dickie “turban” is useless and is feeding on the people of illinois but if they continue to elect him let him feed.
Sorry, my # 174 was in reply to # 171 mfhorn.
re: #177 by RickMZ
Yeah, Van Jones I am sure still believes it to be true.
When I pointed out his jail house conversion to Marxism on an LGF thread Sharmuta got all indignated.
She said, “You make him sound like a jail bird.”
I pointed out that I did no such thing, but jail house conversions only happen in the joint.”
She then countered that “He probably took months after to actually convert>\\
At which point I replied, “This conversation is over.”
re: #173 by RIX
Not that it’s any less disgusting, but judging from his pattern of behavior, I’d say he signed just to gain cred, rather than as a “truther.”
He still owns the label though.
re: #183 by Bumr50
Maybe, but to me it is not outlandish to believe that people that BHO attracts could believe that America attacked itself.
re: #182 by RIX
i am truly surprised he didn’t convert to the muslim faith. he’d make a great terrorist.
re: #183 by Bumr50
What you say is plausible, just like Obama getting street cred at TUCC. But
And yet he couldn’t wear it with pride when found out.
re: #185 by apachegunner
He’s got hands guiding him. He’s too smooth of a mouthpiece to be allowed to associate himself with something so undeniable as a conversion of faith.
re: #182 by RIX
Yes I remember that day, that is the day i finally admitted lfg had gone over to the other side. she and charles both downdinged me that day when I said i trust Zombie over jones.
re: #188 by kcladderman

re: #154 by RIX
Tell me about it. So many Saints celebration beers, so little time….
I’ve managed to avoid the ban stick over at 1, but only because I don’t respond to some of the snide comments.
I’m reading an interesting book called ‘Case for Faith’, but Lee Strobel right now. Chap 3 discusses some of the issues facing the evolutionists re the ultimate origin of life.
Thank you for this WONDERFUL
oops, my last post wasn’t finished -
Thanks no2liberals for this touching video of Sinh. I’d like to be there in San Diego when he finishes. We’re in the greater Los Angeles area, so I’ll do some digging to find out his eta.
Thanks again. I LOVE this blog.
I’ve got a question to throw out there to the computer whizzes:
- how on earth can CJ track our url’s or ip’s or whatever it is? I’m not a computer person other than to turn it on and off, but now that he’s got my ip from 1.0, does that mean he can access my comings and goings to other blogs?
