Sunday Night Open Thread

I don’t want to dump my next couple comments on the previous two threads, as I don’t want to demean or derail them, so here’s an open thread.

I get home from work and turn on Fox News, what do I see?  Geraldo.  Makes an introduction of the man who he feels, rather than Steele (the head of the gop) is the REAL leader of the black caucus……. Al Sharpton.

Geraldo, you radically leftist racist.  You sit there and let Sharpton call Republicans racists and defend his own racist views.  You coddled him then, when Ann Coulter came on, you let her make 2 sentences, then got in her face (interrupting her) and, instead of letting her respond, cut to commercial.

Then when it was her turn to talk again, you cut her off and cut to commercial.

What the hell is wrong with you, you racist supporting radical liberal?  I don’t care HOW nice you are in person, what I just saw you do is a DISGRACE.

Comments

Comments and respectful debate are both welcome and encouraged.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

Racism is a disease of Liberals. Like I said earlier, when everyone is a racist, then no one is a racist. The Left, including the Obama Administration, are too quick to cry “Wolf!” over racism. There is a whole cornucopia of reasons to oppose the Obama Administration that have absolutely nothing to do with his pigmentation. It is the Liberals that can’t see anything beyond the color of his skin and see what those issues are. Blinded by color, they can’t see what great fools that have become. I hope we give them an Idea of the scope of our loathing in the 2010 elections.

well they can kiss my oversized butt.

No one who supports a black person BECAUSE THEY’RE BLACK and lets any horrible events blink by out of blind racist support has NO ground to stand on when it comes to calling anyone else racist.

Even worse is Geraldo, letting Sharpton call republicans racists, then by virtue of not even confronting him, agreeing with him….. then shoves crap in Coulter’s face and then cuts to commercial after interrupting her.

I’d just not go on his show again if I were Coulter.

I’ve seen bad craziness all over lately.

    mostly here.
this place has molted like the island of Dr Moreau.
Charles is Moreau. Well intentioned. but the sycophants have ruined his site.

it’s a shame. so many smart people have bailed because if they disagree they are attacked by a small group of rabid sycophants.
Not me. I will not participate in this when those of us who have stood for what we believe in for so long afraid to disagree. I am not afraid to disagree but I have always done so politely.

but the last two weeks there is such a rabid group of toadies that I am reluctant to even visit here let alone comment.

sharmuta, you could disagree with charles once in your life and it wouldnt kill you. break the stockholm syndrome.
disagreement makes us stronger. try it some time

if this is a flounce, then Charles you are a great guy.
you might want to focus on the islamists rather than glen beck.

Marked for Death. I loved the sword work at the end of the movie. Segal ain’t much of an actor, but he is the real deal when it comes to martial arts. Akido is a serious style. It isn’t as flashy as some, but it is effective. It is a hard style to learn (as opposed to just a hard style; Akido is a soft style in that regard). If you really want to be a rounded martial artist youneed some Okinawan Karate style, some grappling style (jujitsu), and some joint-lock/throwing style.

I’ve =got all three. Isshinryu Karate (3rd Degree Black Belt), Arnis (2nd Degree Black Belt), and I’ve trained in the jujitsu stuff, but hold no rank in it. I’ve also spent years studying Chinese Medicine and pressure-point techniques. It is fun :-)

    do plays, jitsu doesn’t.

    That’s an old saying.

What I liked about aikijujitsu (and the akido variant) is that I can choose between causing pain but no damage (in the case of some idiot drunk who just needs to sleep it off) or doing serious damage to stop an attacker who is truely evil.

Not everyone you fight is evil, some are just stupid. Aiki (do or jujitsu) at least lets you make the choice.

I’m very much a jitsu kind of guy. When I work self-defense I try to set up my response to chain together a series of escalating disasters leading to a fatality. That gives me options, and the time to think them through. It stops only when the enemy has completely submitted and is no longer resisting. A case in point, the last bar fight I was in dude grabbed me by the back of the neck. I turned around with my right hand up as a block (I figured there was a punch comming; he wasn’t grabbing me like that just to say hi). My left hand was down low where I could execute a groin strike. It wasn’t needed. The guy just wilted. He almost burst into tears. Hell, I bought him a beer, told him to calm down. His Old Lady had come into the bar a little while before him, you see, and had hit me up for a drink and conversation. Understandable that he’d be upset, but I’d have still dropped his sorry ass to the floor if he haddn’t give complete submission before I got started.

    repost from last thread..

Rodan, Our G-d is not a vengeful G-d against those that follow him. He is a loving and a forgiving G-d. Our G-d also HATES evil. Same as us. Please don’t beat yourself up for thing that are in our human nature to feel. Go to Confession if you feel it necessary, but you, along with a lot of others here (including myself) found our way; away from the site that censored us from our beliefs and our convictions. I am so sad that it took me so long to find my long time friends from 1.0. I did not post much on 1.0 and did have not been banned (yet). There will be few here that know who I am, but I know that I recognize and respect a lot of the posters here. I learned so much from 1.0 and those that posted, still post and have been banned from there. I have missed a lot of you and still miss a lot that will no longer post because of that site (Bubbazee – for example). I used to pray for realwest everytime I logged into lgf, now I pray for him every time I open up this website. You all did right by starting this site.

I am not posting under my lgf blog name and, no, to the best of my knowledge, have not been banned. I do not read the blog anymore, however I do go there once or twice a day to see if realwest has posted to see how he (and his mom) are doing.

I just think that it would behoove Rupert Murdoch if he indeed espouses conservative values to oh I don’t know build a Libertarian style entity in whatever form to give the so-called extreme right-wing an organized guidepost from which to express their displeasure and anger at the current state of things. It would counter O’Reilly et al.

I think first of all, the ventures Murdoch is involved in are for profit, and not necessarily because of his personal choices.
If there were profits to be made in creating a competing news source against FOX he would do it.
The fact that FOX is blowing all other cable news and network news out of the water is proof he has a winning formula.

it is also an irrational concept.

Ignore fact A because X is part of Y, but when X is not a part of Y, make a point out of fact A.

    mathematically,

    If x=y, then A=0
    if x(does not)=y, then A=infinity

    so, A=0 AND infinity, dependent upon x = y.

“I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” he said.

IFC has carried the classic Samurai movies, for years, like this series.
As well as many of the very best Samurai movies ever made. The actor in the above link, Shintaro Katsu, had a very successful series Zatoichi, The Blind Swordsman.
I love the old samurai movies better than the Kung Fu movies. When they deliver a kill shot, the victim stays dead, and the morality tales are so much more compelling.

Even if despite all the evidence you never thought the Obamanation was a LIAR up to now his UNBELIEVABLE statements regarding ACORN and his proclaimed ignorance of their criminal actions and the fact that HIS OWN Porkulus Bill awarded them millions of dollars of State funding then you must know he is now. Barrack , you can call me HUSSEIN now I won, Obama is a BLATANT BAREFACED NARCISSISTIC LIAR. The only ones who could possibly deny this are the racist Blacks who voted overwhelmingly for him and left wing ‘libtards’ either too stupid to know any better or with a vested interest in this sad inappropriate, unqualified CONSTANTLY LYING document HIDING BOGUS POTUS.

If he did not know he is INCOMPETENT and not fit for office if he ,as he must have, knows and LIED then he is not fit for office. There are no other conclusions to draw.

Oh and just in case you think I made the previous post up here is a Transcript of the OBAMINATIOn LYING as usual to ABC. Comments in the brackets are mine.

“ABC Presenter:- It was one of the most popular topics among the questions you submitted to me for my interview with President Obama – the controversy involving ACORN.

While the President said that ACORN “deserves to be investigated” in light of the “inappropriate” video that’s gone viral, he did not endorse recent votes in Congress to cut off federal funding for the community group.

    Here’s our FULL exchange:

STEPHANOPOULOS: How about the funding for ACORN?

OBAMA: You know, if — frankly, it’s not really something I’ve followed closely (LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE). I didn’t even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.(TOTAL UNADULTERATED BLANTANT LYING)

STEPHANOPOULOS: Both the Senate and the House have voted to cut it off.

OBAMA: You know, what I know is, is that what I saw on that video was certainly inappropriate and deserves to be investigated.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So you’re not committing to — to cut off the federal funding?

OBAMA: George, this is not the biggest issue facing the country. It’s not something I’m paying a lot of attention to.”

Along those lines, Dad is 84, still farms and probably has more endurance than I do. Mom’s a little younger. However, neither of them could work the slide on my Kimber last year when they visited. At some point, arthritic hands and fingers apparently take their toll on grip strength. 187 | September 20, 2009 10:27 pm

On the one hand, I think it’s good that conservatives of every type are waking up to the travesty that is now LGF.

However, as a Christian, I find certain blog pages about this distasteful, and I mean specifically the ones by condescending Non Christians, or by Non Christians who are hostile towards Christianity, almost as much as Johnson is.

More and more often, I see conservative atheists, agnostics, and other non Christians say they do not like Johnson’s tilt toward the left, but they are totally cool with Johnson’s anti-Creationism / I.D. positions.

It’s not so much I have a problem with these people supporting Johnson on evolution, as I am with the attitudes of some of the ones expressing this view.

(The polite, respectful Non Christians do not bother me, I am talking about the ones who hate Christianity or who are arrogant towards people of faith, who mock and ridicule Christians and their beliefs.)

Here’s one example (not a perfect example, as this guy is not nearly as arrogant or hateful towards Christians as I’ve seen from others over the years; he’s pretty mild):
    New Clarion

Like some of the people Johnson attacks, he is a mixture of good and bad. The good is that he is an atheist who exposes the nuttiness of the religious right.

Maybe I am wrong, but I’ve seen this kind of remark so often, I think I’m probably not wrong on this one.

I take it that the author would place “normal” Christians under the heading of “nutty.”

I wish he would have defined who he thinks of as a “nutty” Christian.

My hunch is that like many very angry atheists/agnostics, anyone who believes in Jesus and the Bible and who takes that stuff seriously is a “nut.”

Other than that, I do appreciate that guy’s position, in that he’s speaking out against the horrible things that have been going on at LGF.

As far as his apparent disdain for Christians goes, he’s not the only one. Over the last week, I’ve seen similar posts by other agnostics/ atheists who are speaking out against Johnson.

On that “Clarion” blog, I left a couple of comments on that page.

One guy, “Jim May,” retorted with a post to mine where he sort of missed the point in what I was saying.

At the same time, he actually proved my point above: most Christians believe in a literal understanding of Genesis, that is, we believe that Satan appeared as a ‘talking snake’ to deceive Eve.*

This “Jim May” who replied to my post said that kind of belief was “crazy.”
    ——————
*Even most Christians who may take that content in an allegorical (symbolic) sense would be respectful enough of their brothers and sisters in Christ to refrain from referring to the literalists as “nutty.”

It looks like the conservative rabbis have their heads screwed on right, but the author of the article? Not so much:

What troubles me most about this suggestion is how profoundly it flies in the face of the very meaning of the festival itself.

Follwed by a few lines of what the real meaning of the festival is, and then:

Beyond the political arguments over such a statement, it strikes me as something approaching idolatry.

In other words, he was expressing a negative sentiment with regard to the conservative rabbinical request, though politely.

The comments also express, for the most part, a negative reaction. It looks like the liberal Jews are still asleep. I can’t believe they discount a nuclear Iran and worry instead about last year’s invasion of Gaza.

There is a name for that idea, and many antitheists discount the notion because to them its just hocus pocus.
Many of them are set in their ways. Not because they want to believe there is no GOD, but rather because the existence of GOD means their life is imoral and evil and they do not want to surrender their positions.
Denial of GOD is just an excuseso they can be as immoral as they can be.
Some times I point out to them, especially in hte face of some horrific evil, that by their standard it should not matter, that if there is no GOD then it is purely survival of hte fittest and only the strongest’s opinions matter. I then continue by pointing out htat their inbred revultion is a part of what GOD built into hteir hearts, and that he is alive, he does care, and he will judge.
Most are hard sells because htey loe what ever crutch they cling to.

It’s called “Pacal’s wager” after Blaise Pascal who is credited with formulating it. This was during the so-called Enlightenment when people like Voltaire were expressing radically athiest views and denigrating people of faith. While Pascal’s wager would reveal an extremely weak faith, it still does address the conundrum — namely that those of faith are in a more favorable position than those rejecting faith.

At the same time, he actually proved my point above: most Christians believe in a literal understanding of Genesis, that is, we believe that Satan appeared as a ‘talking snake’ to deceive Eve.*

The Orthodox Jewish position (going back about 850 years from the rabbi / philosopher / sage called Maimonides) is that it is impossible for science to contradict the Bible.

Thus, Orthodox Jews (most, anyway) see the six days of creation as days that took place over the course of about 13 billion years. Orthodox Jewish physicists have used physics to explain how this worked (and it isn’t simply a matter of dividing up the total billions of years into six parts). It’s complicated and they’ve written books to explain how science and the Bible don’t contradict each other.

When you mentioned that most Christians believe that Satan appeared as a ‘talking snake’ to deceive Eve — Orthodox Jews believe this too.

The belief is that snakes started out as creatures who had feet and legs (and who could speak.)

Well — there’s a story in the news right now about a snake found in China recently. It was born with a foot.

    Check this out:

I failed to see how a picture of Obama’s face photoshoped onto the body of a Borneo witchdoctor was the Worst Racism In The World™. Charles got it into his head that this was a reference to Obama being African (something that happens to be true), and therefore racist. My position was that the image in question was using a real witchdoctor from the south sea islands to call Obama a witchdoctor for his attempts to socialize the American Health industry. Charles was just getting to the “everyone who disagrees with me is a white supremacist” level of his psychosis, and I faild to follow his lead against a legitimate piece of political commentary.

Of course, that was just the begining of it. Now the Left says anyone that disagrees with the President on anything is only doing so because he is black, and therefore are racists. That is laughable. I opposed HillaryCare when Clinton was President. I guess that was racism, too.

The truth is that there have been so many cries of “racism” that are bogus that I simply consider the source and, unless the motherfucker in question has a swastika tattooed on his forehead or such, let it slide. When everyone is racist, no one is racist, if you know what I mean. They’ve decimated their credibility on such issues.

The uber-liberal weirdo Janeane Garofalo claimed in a street interview that an entire tea party awhile back was racist because she saw a sign that said, “Whatchoo talkin’ about, Willis?”

I’m not sure what the sign meant (since she didn’t explain the entire sign that might have given it some context) — but her idea was that mentioning this hugely, hugely, hugely popular TV show is racist??? Why? Simply because the most popular person on this mega-popular TV sitcom was black and so is Obama? How could this be racist?

Garofalo characterized the entire modern tea party movement as racist for this one sign.

They’re looking for ANY possible way that they can claim racism.

People in this country are worried about the health and lives of 300 million Americans and the future of our country under incessant liberal trillion dollar spending sprees — and liberals can only see this as racist.

That was at the heart of what I was trying to get at in my previous post.

I can accept (or I try to accept) someone having a different view than I do on a topic (I don’t always find it easy, but I do try).

    Agree 100%!

What gets me when I see anti-Creationism people on blogs is that they seem to think that it’s downright dangerous to believe in Creationism and ID. They hunt down politicians who believe in Creationism or ID and try to expose them as if it’s shocking and unacceptable.

It makes me sick when I see this.

By the way, when it comes to believing in the days of creation being 24 hours, it does actually add up (six days = roughly 13 billion years) if G-d moved at the speed of light for six days. Orthodox Jews added it up.

Who’s to say that G-d didn’t move at the speed of light for six days? He invented time and He exists outside of time, so it makes all the sense in the world that He could do this.

Who’s to say that G-d didn’t move at the speed of light for six days? He invented time and He exists outside of time, so it makes all the sense in the world that He could do this.

If GOD is all powerful, my thought is, why did he take so long to create it? Well, in Genesis it say it was good, so obviously he took his time and made sure it was right.

Thank you I did not know that.
And I agree with you it is hard to look around
and deny the Creator. The suffering is sometimes a blessing and most times it is of our own doing from free will.
For example on the blessing I have a cousin who was deep into drugs and not a good mother. She was diagnoised with cancer. She said it was the best thing that had happened because she turned her life around. Started behaving like a mother and a good person all around. She said it enlightened her. She is in remission now and credits God for it.

However long it took to create the Universe, it’s something we won’t fully understand while we’re living in the physical world.

People have spent thousands of years trying to figure it all out, but we’re never going to get to the point of understanding how the Infinite Being Who exists outside of time built the universe with all its energy, matter, space and time.

At least not while we’re still in the physical world.

if you were out walking and came across a wing from an aircraft, you could look at that wing and say with absolute certainty that it had been designed by a person with knowledge of aeronautical engineering and the properties of air ect.
so when we find a seed of a sycamore tree that is also a perfect wing with exact size in relation to the weight of the seed and the density of the air that will assist its travel.
why is it suddenly not a design but a random example of evolution.

Hey everyone, good to see y’all. I don’t want to be a bother to anyone, but I have a question. Why is it that people can not resolve the two. Meaning God and evolution. I am a Christian and proud of it. I believe that God created the heavens and the earth, but I also understand that there is science to back up evolution. I do not see the two as seperate and negating each other. I look at God as a type of clock maker. Atleast in the very beginning. He set up the necessary parts, and then kicked things into motion. I mean, even for God that must of been one hell of a show watching the universe in it’s infancy.

How ironic that Charles Darwin, after a lifetime of turning the scientific world on its head, began in later years to question his own conclusions.

Well as it stands, I’m not devoted to the idea that we evolved directly from apes. I think there could be a strong possibility that God created them as a test run. Life has been on this planet for far longer than we have. We are his most magnificent creation, and complex is probably to mild of an adjective to describe the human race. With that, we need a very particular set of circumstances to live and thrive. I see the time leading up to us as a way to set up the environment that was required.

I’m sure I have said this atleast once, but seeing as this was the end of my first week here, I love this site. This is the first time I have been comfortable enough to express my views on evolution. At 1.0 the atmosphere was so hostile on those threads that I never felt up to posting in them. Even on the more casual threads it felt elitist. I feel at home. :)

If life evolved from simple (ha!) 1 celled microbes to the species we have today, simplest exorcises of all to prove your point, list a 2 celled organism, 3? 4? 5? 6? 7?

Of course when I say simplest I mean you have to devote you life to it and die a failure.

I never posted on a Creationism thread. It is a debate with no end. Faith versus science. Passions run very high and no one is persuaded, often resulting in bitterness and resentment. It is a lose/lose argument for a blog or a forum, IMO.

EXACTLY, which is why you will never see me discussing a faith versus science or faith versus faith topic. minds are never changed because it is impossible to argue faith, by definition, faith is not debatable. (it is a relief to have a place to do such things, no?)

so, number6, as i am heading out to me tee time…

    re: #231 by mjazz

Earthly suffering does not disprove GOD, but rather proves he is long suffering regading us, it proves the depth of his love.
GOD gave us three gifts, the first and the least is the gift of life. Least? Yes indeed, for without the other two, it is condemnation to either puppetry, or eternal torment. The second gift is eternal life through Jesus. This is the greatest gift of all, bt one we must choose to open. The third gift is self determination, free choice. We each decide what we will do, how we will act. If a particularly evil person were to be struck down by GOD in a most spectacular way, That would deny freedom of choice.
The person struck down would be denied the option of repentance, but more importantly, those who saw it would be denied freedom of choice. They would bow before GOD out of fear of his wrath. (sorry RoG) GOD wants us to worship him out of faith and love.
He gives guidance to those who love him, some times a gentle nudge, some times a swift kick in the shorts, but they are ones who are justified by his grace, and it is never done in a way that reveals his nature to unbelievers.
All the suffering in the world is caused by men. for by man, sin entered the world, and death by sin.
I do not believe tha GOD rejoices when any evil person dies. rather he mourns, for he wishs for all men to turn to him and be saved.
That is why I believe he intended capital punishment to be a horrible way to die, not the slipping off to sleep that lethal injection has made it.

Good post, I might add that the God of love does not force Himself on anyone, (if He did that wouldn’t love at all) but the Lord has given us a free will to accept Him and worship Him by faith.

Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves; it is a gift of God”

Faith is to the spirit what hands are to the body, God offers us a free gift of salvation and we receive it through faith.

Faith is the vehicle in which we receive God’s grace. :)

I know Obama and the media are in denial about this, but constant wall-to-wall coverage is not a good thing. It can be overdone.
