This is beautifully written, not to mention 100% spot-on…
Dear Ms. Pelosi:
I write to you out of utter disdain! You are as despicable and un-American as the traitor Jane Fonda.
I am a soon to be 65 year-old who has voted in every state and local election since 1966. I have voted for both Republicans and Democrats alike. I have worked on campaigns for both Republicans and Democrats, white and black. I served the country that I love in Vietnam, as my son did in the Middle East. I was awarded two bronze stars. I have been involved in politics since age 6 when my father was campaign manager for a truly great American Congressman, Charles Raper Jonas, who worked for his constituents and his country, and was to be admired, unlike you.
You obviously haven’t read the Constitution recently, if ever, the Federalist Papers, or even David McCullough’s book on John Adams. You ought to take the time while riding around in your government provided luxury executive jet to do just that. You represent Socialistic and even Marxist principals that our founding fathers tried to avoid when setting out the capitalistic republican form of government represented by our Constitution.
I find it interesting that you and your husband are multi-millionaires with much of your fortune being made as a result of your “public service”. You have controlled legislation that has enhanced your husband’s investments both on and off shore. At the same time you redistributed the wealth of others. Our system of a free market economy is being destroyed by the likes of you, Harry Reid, and now our President. You ride around in a Gulfstream airplane at the tax payer’s expense while criticizing the presidents of companies who produced something for the economy. You add nothing to the economy of the United States; you only subtract therefrom.
I would like to suggest that you return to the city of fruitcakes and nuts and eat your husband’s canned tuna and pineapple produced by illegal immigrants and by workers who have been excluded from the protection that 90% of the legal workers in the United States have.
I await your defeat in the next election with glee.
Don’t ever use the term “un-American” again for protesters who love this country and are exercising their rights upon which this country was founded. By the way, while I served in the Army, I was spit on by the same type of lunatics who support you and who you probably supported in the 60’s and 70’s. You are an embarrassment to all of us who served so that you would have the protected right of free speech to call us un-American. But at the same time, I have the right to write you to notify you that I consider you to be un-American, as do the majority of the people of this formerly great country. You are a true disgrace to most of the people who served this country by offering themselves for public service in the United States Congress.
I feel certain your aides will not share this letter with you, but I intend to share it with many.
Sincerely,
Dennis L. Guthrie
Edit by LanceKates: Hat Tip to Beltfed for giving us a link to a pdf of this letter.

hear! hear! well written!
SPOT ON!
good find, Bob!
Amen to that (both to Mr. Guthrie & coldwarrior).
Now that is casting pearls before a swine. She will never read it, she might send it to the FBI for investigation. It is a sad time for this nation that she is the Speaker of the House. Oh for a man like Tip O’Neil once again.
Great, this for real I hope?
Anyone know what tuna and pineapple her husband owns?
Oh yeah, almost forgot………………

Er FIFTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
………… “That’ll learn ‘er” ……
Nice sentiment but a complete waste of ink and electrons. The Pelosis of this world and her minions are so far down the socialist track that such criticism just rolls off their backs. Only ONE THING frightens them and keeps them awake late at night.
The thought that they may lose power.
Power after all is their reason for being.
Roll on 2010
re: #6 by Aussie Infidel
yep, its all power…which they will loose most abruptly next election because they will not listen, they are the elite that knows what is best for everyone.
re: #5 by vagabond trader
Yes, it was verified with the author, whose email address is in the letterhead.
re: #8 by Bob in Breckenridge
Eggcellent!!
Here’s his profile from his law firm’s website- http://www.gdhs.com/profiles/dlguthrie.htm
Captain, U.S. Army, 1969-1971, Vietnam
National Defense Medal, 1969
Republic of Viet Nam Service Medal, 1970
Bronze Star Medals (2), 1971
re: #10 by Bob in Breckenridge
the bronze STARS are the high point on that resume!
ah yes…my beloved Steelers play tonight! i love football season!
I hope this letter makes the rounds of the net, talk radio and MSM. The latter is not likely with the exception of Fox News, the WSJ and the Washington Times.
I’m sending Guthrie an email of appreciation.

Look out, on October 25 they will be playing the 7-0 Minnesota Vikings with Brett Favre as QB!!!!
It appears that Dianne Finestein is tired of getting hammered, too:
http://feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=ServicesForCalifornians.ConstituentBreakfast
Seems that she has instructed her staff to suspend the ‘Breakfast with the Constituents’ program.
Hmmmmmmm…..I wonder if this is due to the response to the Health Care Bill?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
yinz y’ll be 3-4 by then!

re: #16 by coldwarrior
And Favre will be on the IR well before then.
/Chicago Bears fan here, FWIW…
re: #18 by Bob in Breckenridge
favre w/ the vikings, or any other nfc north team is just plain, kiss yer sister WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
re: #17 by coldwarrior
Too bad Cleveland didn’t sign Vick. It would have flummoxed the Dog Pound.
re: #18 by Bob in Breckenridge
spent some weeks out in chicago a few years ago…loved it! i would weigh 500lbs if i lived out there, the food was outstanding!
re: #21 by song_and_dance_man
now that WOULD be interesting? would the dog pound then fight amongst itself?
I think he went easy on the worthless skank.
F-ck you Swinestein, you’re an embarrassment to the human race.
Chicago is known for great food? Now that’s news.
re: #23 by coldwarrior
I already checked. Philadelphia doesn’t play Cleveland this season. Too bad – THAT would have been an interesting game.
Pelousy is not fit to breathe the same air as this gentleman.
The San Diego Chargers, better pull their heads out this season…
re: #26 by song_and_dance_man
philly now has two overrated QB’s.
re: #28 by bar
Lifelong Raiders fan here. The disappointment since Davis gave LA the finger is palpable.
I still root for the Rams, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Green Bay. My brother played Pop Warner and I became a fan of the Packers and Steelers back in the 70’s. And McMahon sealed the deal for me in Chicago. Too bad his stint with the Raiders didn’t work so well.
re: #22 by coldwarrior
I agree cw. I haven’t lived there since ‘89, but still order my pizza from Lou Malnati’s. It’s a little pricey at $80 for 4- 9 inch pizzas, but I don’t do it every week.
Another slap down in WA state.

re: #28 by bar
Fortunately, they play in such a shitty division bar (AFC West) that if they don’t win it it’ll be shocking to everyone in and out of the NFL.
re: #29 by coldwarrior
Ha!
McNabb would make a great Micky D’s manager when he retires. I wonder if he’s looked into franchising a string of fast food restaurants.
re: #30 by song_and_dance_man
My nephew is a big Raiders fan, the last few years I have been able to give him lots of crap.
When the Raiders were actually feared.
re: #33 by Bob in Breckenridge
No kidding.
re: #34 by song_and_dance_man
Is it good news on the job thingy?
I see Nancy has a thread up about a WashPo piece questioning whether the govt. can mandate healthcare. Here’s what taxfreekiller had to say with no sarc tag-
re: #38 by Bob in Breckenridge
tfk strikes!
Vikings will easily win the weak NFC north this year with a 13-3 record or better. We have the best runningback duo in football, an improved offensive line, and a real QB at last.
re: #38 by Bob in Breckenridge
We’ve been talking about this for weeks. Little behind the curve at 1’s, huh?
re: #37 by bar
We have to re-interview one last time. The position is that important. I will know next week, but I’m confident it is mine.
One of the applicants was escorted by the Deputy Director through the facility yesterday, and when I saw them come through the door I assumed it was over and the Sgt. had been picked. But that was for another function, so I have to assume he is out.
If and when I get it I will be dancing on lilies. And of course that will not be seen, but I will be praising God right quick and will report my advance or acknowledgment that a better man was rightly picked.

You mean a real old one. Dont get me wrong I like Bret, he is the man, an old man but still the man.
Its the Minnesota Vikings cash for clunkers program.
re: #43 by vagabond trader
nice piece, there…
re: #40 by tunnelrat
Hopefully, Favre will stay longer than a season with Minnesota, although I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up deciding to retire again, and then decided to make yet another comeback.
As for the NFL, I’ll probably keep an eye on Dallas. Used to be a big Cowboys fan when Troy Aikman & Emmitt Smith played, but lost interest not long afterwards. Except for Super Bowl XLI, I haven’t really rooted for any NFL team since.
re: #43 by vagabond trader
Isn’t that ridiculous. I mean we all know that not many guys can say no to half naked women. It’s the oldest trick in the book!!!
I think his punishment, should be a spanking.

re: #44 by bar
i think bret is done, this is embarrassing. there is nothing worse than an aged, past his prime athlete that just keeps hanging on. the jock ego is a sad thing when it does this
Re: 44, Bar
Yeah, I am a little concerned about him staying healthy, but overall the pieces of the puzzle are coming together for the Vikings. We still need a good coach though. Chili-dog has been a big disappointment so far.
re: #41 by vagabond trader
I haven’t been here in awhile, but I was at the library using one of their computers and lo and behold LGF2 was blocked as “hate speech”.
I’m blocked at LGF from even reading it at home (no big loss), but I’m not on my computer- I’m on my brother’s, so I was able to check out 1.0 for the first time in a couple of months, and the first thread (not the most current) I read the comments from has she of no life posting the first and fifth comment.
re: #43 by vagabond trader
I hear that.
My son has been wanting to see the band Dream Theater ever since I turned him on to them. Well, I purchased tickets – 100 bucks a pop – for a Denver show, with airline tickets and hotel accommodations. I had to cancel the trip. The concert is on Tuesday and we will miss it, and I’m eating about $400 for it.
Yea, he is bummed, but he is OK with the importance of what this means to me.
re: #48 by coldwarrior
I knew he wouldn’t retire for real the second time around.
So many do it now a days, it’s a cliche.
re: #50 by Bob in Breckenridge
i’ll bet KOS isnt banned.
re: #52 by bar
I’m surprised the Raiders didn’t pick him up. They are known for picking up great players in their waning and sunset years.
re: #48 by coldwarrior
I’m sure that he still has something left, but he will not be at the level he was 10 years ago. It’s just that the Vikings have been getting by with awful QB’s for so long, that this can’t help but be an improvement.
re: #44 by bar
Farve has.had one of the strongest arms since Kosar. Or maybe that should be accurate.
re: #48 by coldwarrior
I tend to agree with that. There are few players that bail in their prime.
re: #55 by tunnelrat
if he’s healthy he can add some value…IF HE REMAINS HEALTHY.
re: #54 by song_and_dance_man
Or the Rams, well the LA Rams that is, they were notorious for that also.
I mean Fran Tarkenton, come on.
It looks like cash for clunkers in the NFL has been going on for a long time.
Sorry, Fran Tarkenton was part of the NYG cash for clunkers program.
Joe Namath and some others were the Rams cash for clunkers
Only hits count.
Has nothing to do with football. Comes from Black Hills ammunition. I’m going to see Inglorious Bastards. Killing Nazis is good
re: #14 by tunnelrat
Watching the Steelers now! And puh-leeze…Brett needs to retire and stay retired.
re: #55 by tunnelrat
I agree.
Your Vikings took my Chargers for 200+ yards rushing last season.
I hope our D-line and D-backs can improve.
re: #59 by bar
Minnesota has been guilty of that too:
Warren Moon
Archie Manning
Jim McMahon
Jeff George
Am hoping for better results this time….
re: #59 by bar
franco harris went to the seahawks…that was very sad
re: #64 by tunnelrat
i see a trend here, chief!
re: #62 by NoThreat2U
yep!
go stillers
fast willie parker with the TD
re: #60 by bar
Glad you cleared that up. I was doing a *what?*.
OK everyone. Who is your pick this season?
re: #65 by coldwarrior
And in that time the Seahawks were a nothing team. Has that changed? Oh yeah, they lost to the Steelers 3 years ago.
re: #67 by coldwarrior
YOU KNOW IT!!!!! Stairway to Seven baby!!!
re: #69 by song_and_dance_man
i have to take the steelers…it goes without saying.
re: #64 by tunnelrat
Too sad for the Raiders – they picked up McMahon and had George.
re: #69 by song_and_dance_man
Vikings and Giants in the NFC
No real powerhouses in the AFC this year.
Ok, the Jamaican-me-crazy beer can chicken is on the grill. I would give it an hour and a half, but check it in 45 minutes.
I pick the Chargers, color everyone surprised!
Iron Fist, I agree, killing Nazi’s is a good thing, I want to see that flick.
re: #69 by song_and_dance_man
My pick is the Steelers! We bleed black and gold in this house. (And I am a girl!!) LMAO*****
re: #72 by song_and_dance_man
Actually thought that George was the best of that lot. He took a lot of punishment, as we did not have a good offensive line that season. He certainly gave it his best effort.
Did I mean that I hate the Steelers!
Come on, the 1979 LA Rams in the super bowl and then the Chargers last year.
I despise them!!!!
////
re: #74 by bar
Just saw it. I’m sure you and Iron Fist will like it. Jews killing Nazis; a great formula for a WWII action movie.
re: #71 by coldwarrior
I wouldn’t mind that. Rothlisberger[s] is a great QB. They are one of teams I root for. However, if Brady comes healthy on the line it may be another Patriots win in the end. They still have Belichick after all.
Loved the letter. Personal Declaration of Independence.
Executive summary for those who hate to read… “FU”
re: #78 by Morgan
I was hoping it was based on a true story…
Too bad its not.
re: #80 by BenZacharia
Boy, I so want to upding + that!
re: #79 by song_and_dance_man
the patriots cheated and those involved should be banned from the sport.
re: #75 by NoThreat2U
The Steelers are one my favs.
Of course my two favorite teams are the Raiders (I know, I know) and whoever is playing Dallas.
I hope the billion $ new stadium serves them well.
Where I live now they only broadcast on local TV the Dallas and Denver games. BIG BUMMER.
re: #83 by coldwarrior
I think they should forfeit their super bowl loss. So the Chargers have to play the Giants in a make-up super bowl game.
Good find Bob!
re: #85 by bar
award it to both sd and nyg
re: #84 by song_and_dance_man
When I was a kid my mom would take me out to watch the Dallas Cowboys practice at CLU, I never did like them Cowboys.
They screwed the Rams over many times.
///
re: #87 by coldwarrior
No, they have to play for it
re: #81 by bar
With what happens in the movie, there’s no way it could ever be based on a true story, but it makes for a great fantasy movie.
re: #83 by coldwarrior
Yeah they did cheat, but they won. I guess the age old axiom of all is fair in love and war is not part of the program that was employed by the coaches and players of NE.
The Duck and Cover lessons apply when it comes to games.
re: #86 by Rodan
rodan, can we get a weekly ncaa/nfl football thread?
it can start on thursdays and end on tuesday morning. this way those of us rooting for our local teams against those heathens from other local areas wont wreck the real threads with our football knowledge.
re: #88 by bar
One a side note I got to see the pre-Dallas star QB Aikman in his senior year at UCLA. He lost horribly to the Washington Huskies. It was a great game for WA who went on o become the next UNLV of that time.
re: #92 by coldwarrior
LOL. I am with you for slamming the heathen. LOL
re: #70 by NoThreat2U
I’m loving THAT!
re: #92 by coldwarrior
This admin will make sure of such!
We can make it a high school, ncaa, nfl, football thing. I know we have some HS and NCAA fans.
re: #78 by Morgan
I have a HUGE favor to ask you. I want to see this movie, but I REALLY need to know which “good guys” die–I really can’t stand the surprise during a movie.
Admins, is there a way I can send my email privately to Morgan, if he/she is willing to tell me? I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone else.
re: #96 by bar
yeah, thursday night has both pro and ncaa, then friday has ncaa and hs, saturday is ncaa, sunday is pro, monday is pro…
this keeps the threads on topic, kinda
re: #94 by song_and_dance_man
you KNOW what those heathens are like!
At least Bob didnt get hit with the O.T as fast as TQC did last night.
Just given Rodan a hard time.

OH! DUH!
i didn’t know u were admin!
start it on thursday afternoon eastern time please! then close it tuesday.
re: #88 by bar
Yeah they did and have done so going forward.
I went to a pre season Raider game when Hershel Walker just fresh from the defunct USFL played at the non-fabulous LA Coliseum fro Dallas. Dallas won. Bummer.
‘Fro’ was a typo. Please don’t ban me.
re: #106 by song_and_dance_man
“Herschel” is a four letter word to Vikings fans! LOL
re: #106 by song_and_dance_man
I miss Bo Jackson, I thought he would have been one of the greatest, besides Dickerson and LT.
And all those other RB, heathens
re: #97 by goddessoftheclassroom
I’m willing to tell you the fate of the good guys. If Admins can work out a private connection, I’ll be happy to to tell you.
re: #107 by tunnelrat
He was a great runner. Because the USFL was new the tickets were cheap to see great players. I got to see many others I may have to think about to recollect. But Steve Young is one that I remember well. He was the QB after all and as we all know he followed the Barry Manilow lookalike up there in Fisco with the 49′ers.

HEADLINE! :
“Local sports fan calls players from other local areas heathens”
re: #109 by Morgan
If I can figure it out, then yeah I can pass the info!
Send it to you know where and I will forward to you know who.
re: #108 by bar
Do you recall that run with the Raiders when he was injured by a hip pointer. He was never the same after that.
re: #113 by song_and_dance_man
BO had a degenerative disease of the bone that manifested itself in that hip. if u watch the footage, the hip collapses before the opposing player hits him.
loosing BO was a great loss to all sports, cause BO KNOWS!
re: #114 by coldwarrior
I didn’t know that. I was watching the game when it happened and was under the impression that he just stepped wrong. Sorta like an occasional wrong step that we all experience. But now that you mention it, an athlete like him, in an arena of sports, would not be likely.
re: #112 by bar
How about I send an e-mail to blogmocracy@gmail.com with the info?
re: #115 by song_and_dance_man
i cant remember what he has, but if your not a double sport athlete or have an extremely physical job, it wont get you until you are well aged.
the footage is very telling. the ball/socket area of the hip collapses as he plants the leg; then the hit occurs.
re: #116 by Morgan
THANK YOU so much!
re: #118 by goddessoftheclassroom
goddess, to answer your question some threads ago. i am from SW pennsylvania. thats why i will type ‘yinz’ occasionally.
re: #117 by coldwarrior
IIRC he also played for the Royals. He was the first to play two pro sports.
It was a weird injury, and of course, in lieu of my ignorance, I didn’t follow his injury news. All I knew at the time was he was out as a runner and good receiver for the Raiders.
He was running along the sideline and then BANG, he was down.
re: #118 by goddessoftheclassroom
I’ll send the e-mail with the info.
re: #120 by song_and_dance_man
jim thorpe did it as well.
i’m looking for footage/diagnosis…
Bo “had avascular necrosis, as a result of decreased blood supply to the head of his left femur. This caused deterioration of the femoral head, ultimately requiring that the hip be replaced.”
from wiki
re: #123 by coldwarrior
if you look at the femoral head, its a large ball with an equally large bony attachment to the femoral shaft. this ‘neck’ area will weaken when blood flow is restricted because there will be less nutrients such as calcium to re sculpt the outer bone wall.
re: #119 by coldwarrior
I love Western Pennsylvania.
I click on the picture and it takes me to a page where I see that same picture. Do we have a link to the actual letter anywhere?

Good night, y’all–I hope to chat with you tomorrow.
re: #128 by goddessoftheclassroom
Good night.
re: #113 by song_and_dance_man
Yes, a very sad day in sports. I also saw Joe break his leg badly on MNF.
re: #130 by bar
i saw that too, live on MNF.
i had already broken a bone, and that footage made me ill.
was it LT that hit him? he could tell that something broke and was very concerned.
re: #131 by coldwarrior
Wow, good memory. It was LT of the Giants.
It made me ill, thats for sure.
re: #131 by coldwarrior
ESPN actually says it was Gary Reasons who fell on Theismann’s leg. Theisman’s leg literally snapped in half, a compound fracture that all but ended his career. I remember watching LT, who said afterwards (much later), he heard the bones, the tibia and fibula, break in half.
LT was almost crying after seeing Theisman’s lower leg, about halfway between the knee and ankle, almost lying at a 90 degree angle to the rest of his leg. It was on MNF in October ‘85, I believe. The video is available on youtube if you want to see it. I’ll let you search for it.
Crap, here, read this-
THE MOMENT
It’s Week 11 of the 1985 season in the nation’s capital, and the Redskins are playing a Monday Night game at home against the Giants, one of their fiercest rivals. Forty-three seconds into the second quarter of a scoreless game, Joe Theismann calls a trick play: a flea-flicker.
Theismann hands the ball off to running back John Riggins, who barrels toward the line, comes to a screeching stop and tosses the ball back to Theismann, who starts to run. Everyone watching senses the play isn’t going to gain much yardage because Harry Carson, one of the Giants’ star linebackers, gets to Theismann quickly. But Theismann, typically, squirms away from Carson’s grip, as always digging for a few extra yards.
The Giants’ Lawrence Taylor, a Hall of Fame linebacker who is 245 pounds of steel and the team’s most feared athlete, catches up to the scrambling Theismann. He slows him down and then pulls him down. Then, Gary Reasons, another Giants’ linebacker, comes rushing in, falling on top of the pile Taylor had just created.
When Reasons crashes into the hill of bodies and pads, it causes Theismann to fall in a twisted, awkward manner. His leg becomes twisted sideways and pinned beneath him, as he crumbles to the turf.
Suddenly, there is a crack. Everyone around the pile hears the gruesome sound. Theismann feels a sharp sensation shooting through his body. The stadium falls deafly silent. All eyes turn to the pile of players. They wonder who is the unlucky player. Suddenly, Theismann unleashes a bellowing scream, and Taylor jumps up from the stack, looks at Theismann and starts yelling for the Redskins’ medical crew.
The TV camera zooms in and gets closer & closer & and boom — there it is. One of the most hideous sights in sports history. There is Theismann, withering on the ground, his leg behind him. The bone in his leg is gruesomely visible. Everyone in the stadium and watching on TV turns queasy — or they turn away, unable to look at the terrible sight. Taylor holds his head in disbelief. “When I heard a crack, it went right through me,” Taylor would say after the game. “It felt like it happened to me. It made me sick.”
Theismann had suffered an open fracture of the tibia or shinbone. The fibula — the long, thin outer bone running between the knee and ankle — broke through his skin. The compound fracture results in the broken edges of a bone being pushed through the skin. ”His leg was just hanging there,” Taylor said. “It was the ugliest thing I’d never seen.”
The sight of the unflappable and boisterous Theismann writhing on the ground is stunning. Theismann is one of the grittiest and toughest players in the league.
Redskins fans adore their quarterback, who has been a fan favorite from the moment he took over the reins, in 1979, at the age of 29. Two seasons later, he was the NFC top-rated quarterback. He led the ‘Skins to a 27-16 Super Bowl victory over Miami. He was the toast of the nation’s capital. He had missed just one start in his eight years as the Redskins’ No. 1 QB and had made 163 straight starts. He was 36.
When it is revealed the Theismann’s career is over because of the injury, the respect he had earned from both teammates and opponents surfaces. The definitive comment of respect came from one of Theismann’s fiercest rivals, Dallas Cowboys lineman Randy White, who would say, “He played you to the end. Always. Every game, every down. He was the ultimate competitor.”
re: #134 by Bob in Breckenridge
Hey Bob, do you have a link to the actual letter itself, rather than just the letterhead, or a link to the website this thread came from?
re: #134 by Bob in Breckenridge
That was a tough read.
I broke my leg playing soccer, I heard the “snap” and felt the pain, and It was nothing the break Theismann break.
re: #135 by LanceKates
It was emailed to me from my cousin as a .pdf. and I googled it trying to find an actual link. I couldn’t figure out how to post a .pdf here. I can email you the entire .pdf via savage.
I found what I posted on the website of the guy that just a couple months ago was giving away an AR-15 assault rifle with the purchase of a car. (We had a thread here with video about the CNN libturd reporterette who was shocked that he would do such a thing, and her interview with the car dealer).
re: #137 by Bob in Breckenridge
I don’t think that we can embed a pdf, but if you upload it like a picture, you can put a link to it in the post, so we at least show the letter as a letter.
If what I said doesn’t make sense, email the PDF to me and I’ll do it bud.
Why is this important thread being SPAMMED by countless ‘numb nuts’ spewing irrelevant OT BS about Sport. Just what are they afraid of? The truth getting out maybe? Either that or they are examples of the famous American brainlessness that allowed an Abomination like the LIAR Messiah to lie and cheat his way to BOGUS POTUS. Whatever reason they do it its PATHETIC and exposes them for what they are. If you want to chit chat like girlies use Facebook or Twitter ‘numb nuts’.
Nancy? Is that you?

LanceKates and Bob in Breckenridge,
Received that letter a few days ago from a friend.
I just uploaded the PDF file to a free file share web space.

Thank God there are people out there who are willing and able to so eloquently address Ms. Pelosi with such honesty!
Thank you!
Right on target, Mr. Guthrie. You were, however, too easy on Sen. Reid. I think he is the biggest embarassment to the state of NEVADA!!!!
Now, Mr. Guthrie claims to have won two (yes, “two”) Bronze Stars in Vietnam in 1971, correct?
I am wondering how that is possible, since the President in 1962 entered an Executive Order authorizing the Bronze Star, which says clearly that a person cannot be awarded “more than one” Bronze Star. That is the Executive Order under which a 1971 recipient would have been awarded the (”a”) Bronze Star.
Is Mr. Guthrie not quite telling the truth about his military decorations? Imagine that. A right-wing Conservative with questionable integrity…… Mark Foley, Larry Craig, Monica Goodling, Ted Haggard, GW Bush, Dick Cheney, heck, the list goes on and on.
Now, I do respect the Mr. Guthrie whose bravery and service won him the Bronze Star, no matter how many times it was awarded. But I cannot respect the hateful man who wrote that nasty letter to Speaker Pelosi.
I think each of us should ship Nancy Pelosi a
broom. Do think she would get the message?

You may want to tell the Navy.
Fact checked. [by a Charlotte Republican]
This man speaks for a lot of the people in the U.S. today. I to would like to know what her husbands business’s are so I won’t use any.
As with a lot of the people that put their post here, I was in the Nam as well. Good to hear from you all, and yes I hate the very sound of Jane Fonda’s name.Keep at it folks, don’t let up until after the election next year and we clean up that sewer in Washington once and for all.
Hey, #149, if you are going to check facts, do it right, rather than in a typical sloppy and inaccurate Republican fashion.
Here is a cut and paste from the President’s 1962 Executive Order pertaining to the Bronze Star, which is easily found on the internet. All you found was an article by a journalist reporting that someone was awarded two Bronze Stars. The journalist probably glossed over the actual facts for the sake of simplicity. Apparently, a second award should be listed as a “Bronze Star with a **** device” depending on exactly what was awarded. Claiming to have been awarded “two Bronze Stars” is clearly not consistent with this Exec Order. Of course, when did a Republican last tell the truth about anything anyway? Had to have been before health care reform debate started.
Here is the excerpt from the Exec Order:
3. No more than one Bronze Star Medal shall be awarded to any one person, but for each succeeding heroic or meritorious achievement or service justifying such an award a suitable device may be awarded to be worn with the medal as prescribed by appropriate regulations.

You realize you are quoting a journalist, right? That is not first hand info.
All I am saying is, if someone got “two” bronze stars, let’s see them. Because the Commander in Chief prohibited that nearly 50 years ago.
re: #151 by Charlotte Democrat
First, thank you for contributing. I really enjoy having as many differing opinions as possible here.
Second, I would like you to please answer an honest question (if you are still out there). You stated this:
Why is it necessary to slip an insult of all Republicans into a discussion with 2 individuals. I have found this to be a typical response though my extensive discussion about politics with my Democrat, Liberal, and Progressive friends (yes, friends!)
The same goes for the completely off-topic dig about the “health care reform debate”. What was that about? You are discussing whether one can be awarded two bronze stars. What exactly does this have to do with the “health care debate”?
This is something that my friends often do to me as well. We will be discussing the Iraq War, Israel, or the like and they will -out of the blue- bring up the most recent “sin” of the Republicans but not even attempt to make a logical connection between it and what we are discussing…they simply use it as a supposed insult.
These are honest questions, and are not meant to be offensive.
My guess is because most non Republicans have a deep seeded hatred for Republicans. They cannot simply disagree on issues, and be disturbed by their disagreement, but actually take the numerous steps toward actual demonization, and hatred. Its really isn’t too different than “racism”, as it seems that they are simply painting a group with an exceptionally broad brush, and then blame all ills on that group; they cannot see one of that group as an individual but instead see the larger group only. This is just like when a White racist sees one black man drinking beer, and thinks that all blacks are drunks.
You do the same thing. During a discussion about whether or not one could get 2 bronze stars, you take the huge leap and lump those who disagree with you into the “evil Republican” group who supposedly “lied” during the “health care debate”.
You might as well just have said: “YOU PEOPLE” are all the same!
That being said however, your argument (without the “you people stuff”) seems to make sense.

No, I am quoting from the official website of the US Navy.
Its not a civilian news report, it is an official US Navy report.
You obviously didn’t even look at the link.

I guess the Navy and Air force are in cahoots when it comes to multiple bronze star recipients?
re: #156 by bar
Yeah, what would they know about it.
//
whether the subject is 2 bronze stars or “socialism that our founding fathers tried to resist”…..uh during the time of our founding fathers, socialism wasn’t a bad word. It was even a part of the path they set out to travel.
Point is, people who spew this kind of blind hatred toward people whose plilosophies they are oppositional to…and then have the audacity to say that someone is infringing on their rights of “free speech”, while the same someone who is making that accusation is at the same time stepping on others’ rights by the simple virtue of the fact that those “free speakers” have no venue except to talk faster and shout louder and LIE.
Wake up, little puppy. Not every one in America is impressed or even influenced by lies and buzz words and just being the one who yelled the loudest. We don’t need to claim that we voted both Republican and Democrat and worked for both parties. We don’t need to claim that we served in the military, received imaginary medals or that we were spat upon by people. All we claim, or need to claim, is that we too are Americans. We get fed up sometimes. But most of us remain tolerant and open to oppositional points of view without finding the need to lie or spew venom. I HOPE YOU GET THERE SOMEDAY TOO.
An Open letter to Dennis L. Guthrie, Esq.
I read your Open Letter to Nancy Pelosi with some amusement. It was a rant devoid of substance. Your diatribe reminded me of a quote from William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” – “Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.”
Your rather noxious diatribe on Nancy Pelosi clearly indicates that you do not understand how our form of Government was designed to work. Congresswoman Pelosi represents California’s 8th District, which includes most of the City and County of San Francisco. San Francisco, in case you’ve been living on another planet, is one of the most liberal areas in the Country. Ms. Pelosi is comparatively moderate in her views in comparison to her constituents whom have overwhelmingly elected her to the House eleven times (in every election since 1987 she has received at least 75% of the votes in her district). Ms. Pelosi in fact represents the views of her constituents far more moderately than the majority of her constituents themselves express their views. If you had even a rudimentary understanding of this Country’s legislative process, you would understand that Ms. Pelosi is doing exactly what she is responsible for doing as a member of the House. The primary purpose of the House of Representatives in our bifurcated legislative system is to represent the majority view of the citizens of the members’ districts. It is the role of the Senate to represent the broader views of the States as a whole. Ms. Pelosi is doing her job, and doing it to the satisfaction of her constituents. As a member of the House of REPRESENTATIVES, that is exactly what she is charged under our Constitution with doing. While I don’t particularly care for most of Ms. Pelosi’s views, or those of her Constituents, I can hardly find her derelict in her duties.
And while I don’t particularly care for Ms. Pelosi (she’s not the worst of the bunch and certainly not the best), I don’t entirely disagree with her comments that much of the disruptive tactics and blatantly false accusations currently coming from some groups in our society are un-patriotic. I never considered the Vietnam War protesters that visited us at Fort Bragg, including Jane Fonda, who used very similar tactics to those now employed by the fringe on right, to be patriotic Americans. I have always considered their tactics un-American, irrespective of their message. Now, if you agree with me that the much of the disruptive, mean-spirited, slanderous and false invectives of many groups involved in the Vietnam Conflict protests to be un-American, how the HELL do you fault Pelosi for condemning similar tactics from the fringe far-right?
This brings me to another point concerning Pelosi. Ms. Pelosi’s accusations that she was not entirely informed and in fact was intentionally misled during CIA briefings on the Hill is very likely substantially accurate. I doubt seriously that any intelligence agency is going to jeopardize a clandestine operation by disclosing it to a liberal congresswoman from San Francisco. Christ, lying and misleading are part of the curriculum at McLean. No Chief of Station or Case Officer can run his station or his local agents without being adept at manipulating information. There is an oft quoted saying in McLean about dealing with Congress: “It’s always easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.” While even I (being generally law-abiding) in the same circumstances would have been hesitant to fully brief someone like Pelosi, Ms. Pelosi’s version of the events in question is very, very likely substantially accurate.
Recently released CIA memorandum indicates that several personnel at the time had expressed concerns that they were knowingly violating U.S. law with some aspects of the program, and that there would likely be consequences later. Now when you have a minute of lucid sobriety think about it; if they were aware at the time that there was a very strong likelihood that the operation had gone out-of-bounds, do you REALLY think that they are going to go before Nancy Pelosi, of all people, and say, “We know we’re over the line on this one, but we just wanted to let you know that we’re going to continue this for a while longer.” I mean seriously Dennis; you have to be mentally retarded to think that any operative of any U.S. intelligence agency is going to fully and accurately brief a bleeding-heart liberal member of Congress with a big mouth on ongoing harsh interrogation techniques. That would be about prudent as pinning a sign on his/her back pants pocket saying “Prosecute My Ass.” Sober up Dude. Get real.
I was no fan of Ted Kennedy, but the demonizing of Kennedy by Rush and others over Chappaquiddick and his past alcohol abuse I do find just a little (well a lot) disingenuous. If the wing-nuts on the right are going to condemn people for vehicular homicide, where is the outrage over former first lady Laura Bush’s 1963 (very likely) DUI-induced accident that killed a high school classmate? Where is his (and your) outrage over Dick Cheney’s past DUI’S – two within 8 months? Or Cheney’s flunking out of Yale? Or Cheney’s FIVE draft deferments? Cheney himself admitted that he had intentionally avoided military service because he had “other priorities in the ’60s than military service.” Would not FIVE draft deferments to avoid military service and Vietnam warrant labeling Cheney as a DRAFT DODGER?
I have never been able to comprehend how that drunk-ass ignorant draft dodger became not only a secretary of Defense, but a Vice-President! ONLY the self-righteous “conservatives” would pick a leader whose own conduct was so anti-ethical. And only another drunk-ass ignorant draft dodger like Rush Limbaugh would hold Cheney up as a mentor and role model. It’s like Mussolini looking up to Hitler.
I keep wondering what Cheney’s “other priorities in the ’60s than military service” were. Then I realized that those other oh-so important priorities were drinking and driving! Between 1974 and 2008 I seriously doubt that there was anyone more quietly detested within the Pentagon and at the War College in Carlisle than Dick Cheney. Well, maybe Don Rumsfeld. Even silly-ass Ted Kennedy deserves more respect. He at least SERVED, however ingloriously.
In my opinion, Ted Kennedy was an asshole and a joke for most of his life. But he was for the most part a harmless asshole. Cheney, on the other hand, has caused more devastation to this Country than a rabid Pit Bull loose in a preschool.
If you, as a self-professed decorated Veteran, can view either Dick Cheney or Rush Limbaugh with anything other than distain, then there is something SERIUOSLY wrong with your thought processes and your loyalties. No officer loyal to the uniform should EVER respect a “Chicken Hawk.” To give respect to a war monger whom actively avoided service (in combat or otherwise) is to disrespect those that did their duty when called and most especially those that gave their lives on the battlefield.
My point on bringing up Chaney, Limbaugh, and even Ted Kennedy is that if you are going to expend the energy to spew invective insults willy-nilly, at least have some objective, factual basis for doing so. As for your view on what is “Un-American”, would you not concede that intentionally evading the draft is Un-American? If you believe that it is somehow patriotic to evade the draft or evade taxes then I believe that your sense of “right and wrong” is really fucked up.
To summarize, where the hell is your head, other than up your ass?

Wow, you sure spent a lot of time putting together an inane rant filled with leftist talking points (drivel), that have absolutely no basis in reality. Then posting it on a dead thread.

re: #154 by Charlotte Democrat
Is that the best you can do? Your juvenile effort to discredit Mr. Guthrie is a such pathetic play on semantics.
As you are apparently an expert on Military Awards & Decorations, I will not dispute your selective excerpt from the 1962 XO 11046. I wonder, however, if you happened to note that the very same language is used on the XO’s establishing most other medals awarded for military valor and service. I can only assume that you are suggesting that the millions of veterans who received multiple awards of a particular medal are being dishonest if they claim to have received more than one.
Since it’s obvious that you never wore a military uniform in the service of this country, I invite you to come and see both of my Bronze Star Medals, each having been awarded to me upon completion of separate tours of Vietnam. For clarification purposes, only one can be worn at an appropriate occasion, and it carries an Oak Leaf Cluster device to denote the second award.
Now, since I live about 1,000 miles from Charlotte, it is unlikely that you will accept my invitation to look me in the eye and tell me I did not legally receive two Bronze Star Medals. Instead, as an alternative, I’d suggest that you visit Mr. Guthrie at his Charlotte office and personally tell him that he is a liar. I’m sure that he would be most receptive to your efforts to correct his letter.
Thank you so much for standing up and speaking up for the wrong that this bunch of numb-skulls in Washington or doing. I am 69 years old and have never been truly afraid of the direction that our world is going until narcissistic Obama was voted into office.. This USA is going to Hell in a hand basket in a hurry. We need to pray some big prayers all the time. I just want them all out as soon as possible. Thanks again for your letter.
I see Charlotte Democrat, when presented with facts (from bar), ran away like a, well, democrat.

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that some moron spent so much time writing such a lengthy defense of Nancy Lugosi. That is epic fail. On so many levels.
