The cult of personality can take you far, but it can’t keep you there

Some bitter clinger over at Renew America does the dirty on Pres_ent Obama

….Now, to the chagrin of the President and his Party, he is discovering why cults of personality are not truly reliable as a source of political power. It’s because, psychologically, frenzies of excitement cannot be maintained indefinitely. In the psychological gravity of personality politics, what goes up must come down. The superficial luster will wear away. Once a personality-dependent ruler starts having to actually make decisions that will affect peoples’ lives, he will invariably start to see support slip away. And when the ruler makes a string of monumentally bad decisions like Obama has, one after the other, packed tight like a can of sardines, the slippage will turn into freefall.

There will always be those who blindly cheer the President no matter what he does. However, a critical percentage of the population — the one that does things like decide elections — has awakened to what Obama really is. They’ve seen the lies, and they don’t like them one bit. They see the gathering clouds, the storm that threatens to deluge their freedoms and their family finances, and they’re revolting against it. It is no longer enough for them that Obama is “the first black President” or that he’s cool and hip. They want governance that will bring back prosperity and protect their freedoms, or at least that isn’t going to devastate them individually and as a nation. Yet, they’re getting exactly the opposite. Obama is finding out that popularity and coolness are no substitute for substance and gravitas and wisdom and statesmanship. It’s just a shame that this discovery came after he was able to scam his way into the White House….

Speaking of Psychoanalysis , the Obama visit in Arizona has made quite a quiver over a 1.0 now with the open carry of guns by citizens at the rally.

    I like this:

Obama rode to victory in 2008 on the shoulders of a slight majority of the voting populace who, by and large, just thought it was “cool” and “fresh” to vote for him.

    and this:

It is no longer enough for them that Obama is “the first black President” or that he’s cool and hip.

I gave BO a benefit of a doubt right off the bat. Then right off the bat he didn’t go through the bills line by line to eliminate earmarks. That was quick. Typical politician. 8)

    Off thread.

My good old buddy Murphy is gone. Died last week. I didn’t know until I went to the old watering hole today, seems I just saw him yesterday. He flew those old prop planes. The ones our government gave the Viets and Laos. They coudn’t fly them in war time so people like Murph did. Murph never talked about it much. Got him some old Laos money on my last trip to Vietnam, 2006. Made his day. I don’t know if he flew for Air America, he never said. He was just assigned to the Laos Royal Airforce. Sure will miss our Southeast Asian talks. Memorial coming up this week at the Arizona memorial on Ford island. God bless you Sir. I think he retired as a Lt. Col. USAF. A true warrior.

    leftist=progressive=democrat=more government

    rightist=individual=tradition=markets=less govt

    in the USA today.

6 decades ago, fascism, nazism, communism, and socialism where all closer to leftism then rightism. They were all trying to destroy the past to make way for a new future. The opposition was Yankees. The yankees were the right wing. People with a moderate set of rights that wanted less revolution not more.

I do think we are headed to more violence in this country though. The wholesale ravaging of the fundamental building blocks of the country by the left is not going to go over well. The complicity of the MSM and political leaders. They are disenfranchising a very large population segment. They do this further by labeling these people as hicks, neo nazis, etc. whether they are or not. Like at the other blog, no real room to discuss this. The decision has already been made there for all the blog members.

There will be some sporadic violence that is used by the left to crack down on the ability of people to be violent.

Maybe there will be something like a subculture, anti left culture that arises out of the tea parties.

A little violence will open up a few larger cracks. I think it will be contained, but it will still do some damage.

Moral of the story is don’t be a victim, be prepared.

    spidly here:

Was disappeared from LGF yesterday between 6:30am and 11am. Not sure what I finally did wrong did wrong, though my sins were numerous, including a few personal feakouts. Is this Hell? Purgatory? Or are we in some dark hole gutting fish in Siberia? I’m sure that posting here will seal my fate for all time, but what the hell.

sin 1) I’m an AGW sceptikkk. Big sin at LGF these days.

sin 2) Don’t really want creationism taught in schools but don’t think evolution is the end all and be all, especially since I care more if people understand the last 5769 years than how we evolved from the primordial soup and how things came to being in those seconds after the big bang which is in itself inexplicable in my mind. I really don’t think any of it is the federal government’s business and would prefer vouchers. Probably not the sin that got me booted as I rarely commented and thought it all was just noise.

sin 3) Gun nut. I adhere to the idea that the government should be afraid of the people and not the other way around (I expect there will be more disappeared after the “Arizona gun stunt” thread). I don’t think there is an example in history that a government has disarmed its citizens without bad intentions.

sin 4) Against federally run health care. Zeke and Holdren scare the hell out of me. I don’t think “death panels” are the intent of the administration (but are the intent of some with influence within the admin). I think putting a mechanism in place that could lead to such a thing is justification enough to raise all the alarm bells in the world and more, whether you think it is hype or not. It is like hanging the Sword of Damocles over all our heads but swearing that a de-funded NASA has come up with a fibre that will never break and nobody will ever help it. I’ve read the cold calculating pieces by Holdren and Zeke, so no thanks, I’ll error on the side of caution… aside from the patently un-constitutional nature of the government health care move. But then maybe I’m a bit overly sensitive to the government deciding who lives and who dies, and I’d rather it were greedy capitalist pigs who see no colour but green.

sin 5) coulda been my last off colour Sean Penn Slamming joke that provided the justification in conjunction all with my other sins,

Some guy just got stabbed at In and Out Burger across the street from me. I heard a lady screaming but kinda ignored it. Then realized it wasn’t a playful scream. I went out to investigate and but couldn’t really make out what was going on. Its 200 feet away and my eyes are tired. She was still screaming by the time I lite a smoke and made it out front. I don’t recalling seeing fighting, but I heard her yell “don’t let him get away” and I saw someone fleeing the scene, then someone yelled, put a “tourniquet on it”.

Now the eye in the sky is up, flying around my house…

    re: #47 by tee

    I must disagree.

He has been on the right side of history for the last 8 years. certain obsessions have gotten the better of him of late. Don’t write him off. Even if he does go off into the pseudo-science netherworlds of AGW and thinks creationism is as big of a threat as 12th Imamism, I would far rather have him as the honorable opposition of the left than the current left. I wish he were representative of the left. At least there could be a discussion, even though he’s been purging LGF of small-decentralized-government-free-market-human-is-better-than-animal-all-life-is-precious-there-might-be-a-g_d-other-than-the-state-nazis like us.

I don’t know where his head is at the moment or what has made him sceptical of all things conservative. I’ve had a couple moderate friends lose their rational centrist minds over prop 8. I just have to think maybe that set him off. I’m off in my own objectivist free market fantasy devoid of a leader since Ron Paul is insane.

I can’t really get ahold of where he stands on national heath care other than he hates the “death panels.” I think they’re hyped as well, but I’m willing to use the hype to kill the possibility of the implementation of “death panels.” The same cold calculus of Zeke and Holdren has been use before, and it really makes me über-uncomfortable. – it all seemed reasonable at the time. People should know better and so should Charles.

I want decentralized government, Charles seems to entertain the idea of national stupidity for whatever reason. I’ll suffer through a statewide single payer plan and whatever else they have to throw at me here as long as as I have the option of moving and can get my wife to pack up and move to Idaho or Montana as I’d like (I hear there’s land available on Ruby Ridge to build a Schul- maybe JFPO would fund me).

I don’t think it was the fact that I was there for 8 years and have adapted to the format; I think he has the best designed blog out there. I stuck with it thru the obsessive anti-creationist threads of late, and all the other marginal BS because he has the best format out there, AND because I mistakenly thought my informed opinion was valued. It seems now it might only be a place for sycophants who’ll stick a finger in the wind, people with pseudo-intellectual limericks and no values you can pin down, and undecided platitudinous lefties protected from debate.

    anyway…..

The Obamanation is a narcissist and being a narcissist means never having to say you are sorry as your colossal ego and arrogance prevents you from ever even considering you can be wrong. This was amply shown when you look at GATESGATE. A Black RACIST Professor caused a problem and a Black RACIST President backed him up without even knowing the full story. Then neither of the Black RACISTS apologised and instead blamed the American People for causing the problem and cast THEMSELVES as innocent VICTIMS. Classic NARCISSISM.
Ever wonder just how much contempt the Obamanation and his ‘I hate America’ wife hold for the voters well here is a list of the 26 PEOPLE who just look after Michelle more than any other Presidents wife in history . Hows the recession treating you Michelle sista ?????

She is served by twenty-six attendants, including a hair dresser and make-up artist.

The annual cost to taxpayers for such unprecedented attention is approximately $1,750,000 without taking into account the expense of the lavish benefit packages afforded to every attendant.

Little did American voters realize the call for “change” would result in the establishment of an Obama oligarchy.

The discovery of the additional attendants was made by D’Angelo Gore of factcheck.org and by calls to Katie McCormick Lelyyeld, Michelle Obama’s press secretary.

Mr. Gore launched his investigation of the First Lady’s staff in the wake of an article that appeared on thelastcrusade.org and Canada Free Press on July 7.

The article, which became a chain letter viewed by millions of Americans, reported that Michelle Obama requires more than twenty attendants – – more than any First Lady in U.S. History. It provided the following list of White House staff members assigned to the First Lady:

    1. $172,2000 – Sher, Susan (Chief Of Staff)
    2. $140,000 – Frye, Jocelyn C. (Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Policy And Projects For The First Lady)
    3. $113,000 – Rogers, Desiree G. (Special Assistant to the President and White House Social Secretary)
    4. $102,000 – Johnston, Camille Y. (Special Assistant to the President and Director of Communications for the First Lady)
    5. $102,000 – Winter, Melissa E. (Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief Of Staff to the First Lady)
    6. $90,000 – Medina, David S. (Deputy Chief Of Staff to the First Lady)
    7. $84,000 – Lelyveld, Catherine M. (Director and Press Secretary to the First Lady)
    8. $75,000 – Starkey, Frances M. (Director of Scheduling and Advance for the First Lady)
    9. $70,000 – Sanders, Trooper (Deputy Director of Policy and Projects for the First Lady)
    10. $65,000 – Burnough, Erinn J. (Deputy Director and Deputy Social Secretary)
    11. $65,000 – Reinstein, Joseph B. (Deputy Director and Deputy Social Secretary)
    12. $62,000 – Goodman, Jennifer R. (Deputy Director of Scheduling and Events Coordinator For The First Lady)
    13. $60,000 – Fitts, Alan O. (Deputy Director of Advance and Trip Director for the First Lady)
    14. $60,000 – Lewis, Dana M. (Special Assistant and Personal Aide to the First Lady)
    15. $52,500 – Mustaphi, Semonti M. (Associate Director and Deputy Press Secretary To The First Lady)
    16. $50,000 – Jarvis, Kristen E. (Special Assistant for Scheduling and Traveling Aide To The First Lady)
    17. $45,000 – Lechtenberg, Tyler A. (Associate Director of Correspondence For The First Lady)
    18. $45,000 – Tubman, Samantha (Deputy Associate Director, Social Office)
    19. $40,000 – Boswell, Joseph J. (Executive Assistant to the Chief Of Staff to the First Lady)
    20. $36,000 – Armbruster, Sally M. (Staff Assistant to the Social Secretary)
    21. $36,000 – Bookey, Natalie (Staff Assistant)
    22. $36,000 – Jackson, Deilia A. (Deputy Associate Director of Correspondence for the First Lady)
Hairdressers and make up artists round off the list to 26.

To give you a different perspective, I posted there for only about a year, starting two years ago. It was right when Charles started opening registration on a regular basis, because I had been actively following the chatter there, and was eager to chime in.
A year later, it would be days at a stretch between topics that piqued my interests.

We don’t have these crazy Creationists running around here in Pittsburgh trying to stifle evolution. And I became, quite frankly, disgusted at the apalling disrespect for my religion (Christianity) shown at the site. I felt as though people were going WAY out of the way to bash.

In a hypocritical twist, I was banned for an angry post that advocated using lethal force as an option when dealing with illegal immigration. While I didn’t mean to imply that people should start dropping others like, RIGHT NOW, apparently it was taken that way. I don’t want to see anyone die, I just think that a line is a line, and that some take advantage more than others.
Apparently, many at 1.0 have more “open” views on immigration. I have no problem with the legal kind.

no, but I only remember the prolific posters I liked most and the ones i did not like at all. Most of the guys I connected with have been banned. A few remain but are probably not long for the LGF world.
There are people that have been registered for a couple years with 60,000 posts, chatting up a load of pointless BS that are among the favoured few. I had a mere 4000 or so posts since registration in 2004 and tried to stay out of the buddy buddy politics and state my views…. when I wasn’t having personal meltdowns.

We had better get cracking to usurp this Hussein and his 40 theives.

    From the article:

“What has caused this catastrophe for the President? How did he slip so far, so fast?

One thing I can tell you is that it is not due to anything the Republicans have done so far. Having been handed the golden opportunity of a political lifetime to utterly destroy the Democrats on the health care boondoggle, cap-and-tax, and Porkulus, the GOP (aside from a few fire-eaters like Senator DeMint and Sarah Palin) seems to have timidly decided that they’re going to let it slip out of their hands. So far, the Party “leadership” hasn’t grabbed the brass ring. Instead, they seem to be poking at it slightly to see if it will bite them or not. Meanwhile, the people are hopping mad about just about everything, but are wandering around aimlessly because the Republicans, so far, have abrogated their necessary role as the effective opposition. Even despite this, the GOP is still getting a boost at the polls. Just imagine what could happen if they’d actually do something besides reach across the aisle and seek to find “common ground.”

Yep. as a Jew I don’t see things on on any of these levels, but then I don’t care too much for anything but practicalities.

I’m not one to give in to the new earther guys but I do not care. Unrecorded history is less important than how we get along NOW as far as I am concerned. I Know plenty of christians, and do not know any that strictly adhere to the new earth ideology. If any of them do, and I don’t know…. I don’t care.

Anyway, I am sure that the most evangelical new earth adherent loves me more than any scientific socialist. I have better odds siding with people that share half my beliefs and want me armed, than people that tell me to disarm and trust their absolute view of science. It has been pretty fucked up for Jews every time we’ve been told to give into the state, just like everyone else for that matter.

I’ve been told at synagogue that evangelicals only want to convert me and they have ulterior motives and only want to convert the Jews, so beware… big whoop. The scientific socialist secular humanists have never wanted to convert me as it was more expedient to kill me. I’ll take a good proselytization before a firefight.

All that said, I caught shit for defending Christianity. For me, Jesus is not Christ, but good for you. I caught hell from all sides as I see illegals as our union busting-artificially high minimum wage smashing labour force who at least had strong judeo-christian values.

I’m not sure that there is a race element to this particular piece. There has been some comments about the Obama-Joker being in whiteface, but that is the way the Joker has always been. That is part of the character, that he wears a mask, and it drives home the point that we don’t really know who this Obama character is behind his mask. Hope and change are meaningless without more context.

This piece certainly makes a statement about context. Stark, one word in black and white: Socialism. Above it, the face of a madman. It is powerful imagery. I’ve seen people with T-shirts of it here in Knoxville. It has gone viral in a big way. Part of the reason that the Left are so “offended’ by it is that it is an effective message against their messiah.

The people who are trying to say that “socialism” is a code-word ofor “black” are just trying to shut down opposition to their man. The real question is can you, in America today, oppose a powerful black man on political grounds and not be called a racist? The answer to that appears to be no. That is the state of the Left, the depth to which they have sunk.

The thing is, when everybody’s a racist, nobody is a racist. The charge loses its effectiveness because it has been so diluted as to be meaningless. The opposition to Obama has nothing to do with his race, and everyone knows it. But the Left want to claim that we’re all sekrit racists because we don’t blindly follow their pied piper (Oh, knoes! Pied == black?) over the cliff of socialism.

    My $0.02.

Mark Steyn being his usual intelligent self over at NRO on Death Panels.

On the matter of McCarthy vs the Editors, I’m with Andy. I think Sarah Palin’s “death panel” coinage clarified the stakes and resonated in a way that “rationing” and other lingo never quite did. She launched it, and she made it stick. So it was politically effective.

But I’m also with Mrs. Palin on the substance. NR’s editorial defines “death panel” too narrowly. What matters is the concept of a government “panel.” Right now, if I want a hip replacement, it’s between me and my doctor; the government does not have a seat at the table. The minute it does, my hip’s needs are subordinate to national hip policy, which in turn is subordinate to macro budgetary considerations.

It isn’t long, so, as they say, read the whole thing. You know, it wasn’t that long ago that Steyn was a regular feature at LGF. The Same with Victor David Hanson. Nowadays, not so much, I guess.

I tried to attend that, as I was living in the Bay Area at the time but everyone was so paranoid of infiltration by aidemyndi that I never could get proper directions to it. Where did you all meet? I drove all the f*** over Berkeley, Emeryville and Richmond to the places I thought it was at.

There was some guy who was being a real dickhead on lgf, one of the organizers, who thought he was mister security chief who I could not get the address out of. It wasn’t any of the names you mentioned. I was “Colonel Panik” at LGF and had been a lurker since 9-11 and registered since around the time of Rathergate.

We met at the Scott’s Restaurant in Jack London Square. For fun, we hinted that we were going to be at the Chevy’s in Emeryville and Zombie stationed herself there to see if anyone showed up. Actually, there were blogs like KOS and DU that were – I kid you NOT – showing photos of Fist with his LGF colors and saying that we were planning to “invade” Berkeley like a gang and go marauding through the streets with weapons. Yeah, some real sane speculation there.

I’m sorry you missed it. Maybe LGF2.0 can continue the tradition.

Oh, and I was Carolina Girl. Over there.

I remember you! We chatted a few times about NC as that is where I was born and spent my childhood years. IIRC you worked in SF.

Yes, I went to the Chevy’s in Emeryville. I remember walking into the bar and looking for people with “lizard” badges. Didn’t see any. Didn’t see Zombie but then I would not have recognized her anyway. Then for some reason I thought everybody might have gone to some seafood place in the yacht harbor at Richmond, so I drove up there. Nyet. Then I drove home, somewhat miffed, as I lived in the South Bay, and HATED East Bay traffic and that whole BayBridge/Berkeley/Emeryville HWY 80 clusterf***. I guess Mister Total Security (wish I could remember this dickhead’s nic) did a real good job of keeping lefties out if the Kosniks and DUmmies got pics of everyone. LOL.

Well, if you all want to do a 2.0 meetup here in Phoenix I am a member of Scottsdale Gun Club and get visitor passes to the range. You can bring your own shootin’ irons or rent from the range (including full auto!- can’t do that in CA!) or borrow some of mine. We can go to Four Peaks afterward…a local brew pub. Plenty of good restaurants in Scottsdale.

Yep, work in S.F., and while I used to wanna go back to NC, I hear it’s changed so much. I’m thinking Tennessee now. Racing at Bristol, baybee!

We’ve considered taking a vacation down in AZ – I just might take you up on it. I’m now up to three short and one long gun – a .40 Taurus millenium, a .22 (that Flyboy bought and now I can’t remember who makes it) and a .45 Long Colt. Flyboy’s got an arsenal.

Man, I’m sorry you went hither and yon
