Supreme Court rules in favor of Discriminated Fire Fighters

In a blow to racism and discrimination, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of White and Hispanic firefighters who were not promoted because of their race. Although the media reporting only states that the firefighters are White, the truth is that there is also one Hispanic involved with the lawsuit as well.   Either way race based promotions are wrong and against the 1964 Civil Rights act.

Court Rules for White Firefighters Over Promotions

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court ruled Monday that white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision that high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor endorsed as an appeals court judge.

New Haven was wrong to scrap a promotion exam because no African-Americans and only two Hispanic firefighters were likely to be made lieutenants or captains based on the results, the court said Monday in a 5-4 decision. The city said that it had acted to avoid a lawsuit from minorities.

The ruling could alter employment practices nationwide and make it harder to prove discrimination when there is no evidence it was intentional.

As a “minority” ( I hate that term and feel it is racist) I don’t need help to compete for a job position or promoted. If my latin ancestors (Imperial Rome and Imperial Spain) dominated the world, I can compete with a White, Asian or Black person for a position.  If a White person beats be out, it is because they are more qualified and I need to step up my game. That is life and it is based on ability, not race.

This race based nonsense need to stop, we are all members of the same race: The Human Race. Also we are American citizens equal under the law.  However, that also does not guarantee equal results. It is up to an individual to achieve a result, race has nothing to do with it.

    Secondy second secondnnedy secondness.

Every once in a while the courts get it right. If she gets through, Sotomayor will be worse than any of the current selection of Liberal nincompoops on the Supreme Court. She’s bad medicine.

You are, of course, right LK. It should disqualify her but, sadly, will not. At least not with this congress.

It’s Un American in my opinion to consider race as a factor in rulings or hiring.

The stupidity of this ruling was that it assumed that because the African Americans couldn’t pass the test, racism must be involved.

Our society is so confused that it couldn’t even imagine the possibility that these black firefighters just weren’t qualified?

This is typical of a society that would rather do mental gymnastic to ensure a reality they are comfortable with than accept that fact that there just might be a difference between those who passed and those who failed.

Quotas and preferences are racist in and of themselves. The lefturds telling minorities that they are simply not smart enough to compete on an even playing field with caucasions is the ultimate in soft bigotry.

The irony here is that 2 Hispanics passed the exam and were going to be jettisoned along with the white firefighters.

not for long, but American is becoming obsolete, along with our Constitution.

What frightens me the most about affirmative action is that black doctors took easier tests than the rest of the class and really and truly do not qualify to be doctors. If you can’t pass the test the rest of us have to take then you don’t belong on the job.

but… but… the test was racist because it asked questions they didn’t know the answer to… which is WAY different than questions white folk don’t know.

I don’t remember Spain dominating the world. I remember the Spanish Empire which controlled a part of the world only.

I do remember the Muslims dominating Spain though.
