NEW YORK – Bernard Madoff has been sentenced to 150 years in prison for his multibillion-dollar fraud scheme.
U.S. District Judge Denny Chin handed down the sentenced in New York on Monday.
The 71-year-old former Nasdaq chairman was arrested late last year after confessing to his sons that his secretive investment advisory business was a “big lie.”
He pleaded guilty to securities fraud and other charges in March and has been jailed since.
Bernard Madoff has apologized to his family and to the victims of his multibillion-dollar fraud scheme.
The 71-year-old financier said Monday at his sentencing that he “will live with this pain, this torment, for the rest of my life.”
Madoff says that he dug himself “deeper into a hole” as the scheme progressed.
Attorney Ira Sorkin says the 150 years in prison recommended by prosecutors or the 50 years recommended by the federal probation department are excessive.
Victims who lost millions of dollars earlier urged a stiff sentence for the former Nasdaq stock market chairman.
Madoff has pleaded guilty to securities fraud and other charges in March and has been jailed ever since.

What would you have wanted from those hired to best protect the Defendant’s interests; that they argue he deserved 149 years?
A lawyer’s job is to argue on behalf of his client and get the best deal for him or her possible. 12 years was tactically probably a very bad choice as it was too low-ball, but suggesting anything much higher wouldn’t have been appropriate for their client.
Now, that being said (and ignoring the fact that you started your blog post with the word “And…” I’m glad Madoff got 150 years. He will die in jail. He is the epitome of dishonesty and greed. He stole from the rich, the poor, and even charities. There is very little good to say about this man.
Madoff fits into the type of New York City that I am glad I moved away from years ago. He is a complete and total bastard.

I think that Bob in Breckinrdge was just angry at the gall of the lawyers and their gumption to claim that based on his life expectancy, he should only get 12 years.

still, it’s a bit rough to make an old man die in prison for a white collar crime.
he should do some time and be financially ruined, but 150 years???
Don’t get me wrong,the guy is a dirtbag,though some of the charities he hustled were not exactly on my giving list, such as the ACLU.No pity for them whatsoever.NONE, may they go bankrupt in their anti American pursuits.

Sounds like a proper sentence to me.
I would also like to see the warden bury his ass inside the prison walls and dig his rotting corpse up in 150 years.
Now THAT’S the sentence I would like to see. bwahaha
