Charles “Icarus” Johnson really is a paranoid individual. He has created a feature to close comments on a thread for public viewing. Only those registered at his Cult Blog can see comments on the private thread. It is Charles’s blog and he has every right to do this. But this just proves what us at 2.0 Blomocracy have been saying about Kid Icarus, He’s a Paranoid control freak. The funny part is that the comments can be seen at LGF Spy! Like his stage name Icarus suggests, he is falling down. Paranoia is not healthy and this man clearly is not all there.
Tech Note: Private Thread Test
Technology | Sun, Jun 14, 2009 at 3:29:47 pm PDT
This is an open thread to test a new feature, making comments visible only to registered lizards.
I can enable the “privacy” feature for individual threads; in most threads I’ll leave it off so everyone can read the comments, registered or not.
But by using the LGF Spy for a private thread, we now have an Ajax-based private chat room, with a log of all comments that’s visible only to registered users. And here we have the first thread to test this concept out.
Remember — to get to the LGF Spy page that allows comment posting for individual threads (private or otherwise), click the green magnifying glass button at the bottom right of an LGF article.
Update: This is where Charles’s Paranoia will lead!

re: #30 by song_and_dance_man
Do the lost truly have no empathy for those that have found their way or are they simply focused on their immediate situation? Granted that a large number of people behave in a selfish way I don’t know if this necessarily translates into a complete lack of empathy.

FWIW, I haven’t even accessed LGF since the day I left. It matters not in the least to me whether they have a secret clubhouse or not. The freedom to express my positions is far more precious to me.
re: #41 by gclaghorn
Regarding your comment by a 1.0er:
I for one am not “freaked out.”
I’m just curious as to why it’s being done, and which topics will be set to private and why.
I don’t really visit LGF 1 anymore anyhow, so it doesn’t really make a difference to me.
Also, I know someone, somewhere, will figure out a way around the ‘private’ thing, so it seems rather pointless.
(Kinda like when people use Java Script to stop mouse right-clicking, thinking to themselves, “A-ha, nobody can take images from my site anymore” – there are ways around that, too.)
re: #39 by dclarke
Of course they do. Without going into detail, I can cite many circumstances where the lost cling to their own and find empathy for the like minded.

My skin is too thin and my feelings are too easily hurt. I’ve been told some have said unkind things about me; that and Charles’s own comment that he banned me because I proved I couldn’t be trusted (copied here) have convinced me that there would be no joy in my having a look.
re: #46 by song_and_dance_man
I cannot disagree with that. And I would also add that there has been an unfortunate tendancy to prey upon this need which in some circumstances has only exacerbated the situation.
I do believe however that there is good in people. And that because of this there must be some empathy for those that have found their way. Of course, not within everyone and I have many circumstances I can cite myself unfortunately.
re: #41 by gclaghorn
Ya know, since these 2 threads, CJ has mysteriously disappeared. Gotta believe he is furiously trying to patch code. So far not so good.
What I don’t understand is how so many of the Conservative posters over there stay there. They would not post at kos or huffpo but they are being led to the left and the same crazy rants as you would read there. Do they not realize that?
It’s like those obama voters who bought into the hopeychangy thing and now see that he is not what they wanted, but they ‘invested’ their time and energy into building him up and now think he will return to their ideal. Isn’t going to happen for either group.

re: #56 by dclarke
Yes, there is good within everyone, but in my experience that good is suppressed by some. Well maybe… by all too many.
What really troubles me is some have become calloused when it comes to how we are to behave based on this implanted sense of good.
We are endowed with a sense of morality that is inherent and native to us. And if you will allow, is a God given thing. There is an inherent knowledge implanted in every psyche that warns us when wrong is being done.
Granted whatever side of the God implanted morality line one may reside, there can be found empathy for your behavior. For good or evil.
Of course I say this from a right leaning God loving perspective, and there are all too many who will disagree.

I would have to agree with that assessment, SaDM. Far too many seem willing to ignore their own sense of morality, of what is right and wrong to do what feels good rather than what is good.

Regarding that comment by Sharm:
I know that people here comment on her ability to be a huge suck-up but geez, she really takes the cake.
I’ve read her comments since she started posting and have watched her sacrifice her ideals and beliefs in order to appease the master.
Frankly, I don’t think the Sharmuta of three years ago would have ever posted a comment like the one you cite.

re: #98 by dclarke
You’re welcome. You summed it rather nicely with…
Succinctness is good in it’s own right, and you nailed it.
It’s been years since I’ve worked on a Mac, so I don’t remember, but….
When you click on a link and keep the button held down for a few moments, don’t you get a pop-up menu with various information, including an option that says “Open this link in new window” -?
If not, maybe there’s a way in your browser to make all links open in new windows? Go to your menu bar and look under Tools/ Options/ Edit/ File Preferences or whatever.
re: #103 by no2liberals
I know we talked about this last night but geez, I bow down to your concert-going experience.
P.S. While living in southern California in the early 90s I found myself at Tower Records and there was a graying band behind a table to sign copies of their albums. I think there was some sort of reunion or nostalgia tour. Anyway, there were quite a few people shopping the aisles but not a soul at the table to meet the band. Turns out it was none other than Iron Butterfly and I felt so sad that no one even noticed them.
The private comment thing is so lame. It’s kind of like having a Myspace page set to private and then all of your friends set theirs to private and then everything just becomes one boring, uninteresting echo chamber. Part of the reason people comment at LFG is to be controversial, thus seen and heard. I would lay money on the fact that most lizards don’t WANT their comments not to be seen by others….that’s why they comment. Charles’ paranoia is going to further isolate potential members, not create more interest. Bottom line: it’s lame as lame can be. It’s like going to boring party and trying to convince everyone the next day how great it was. That’s kind of like the thread exit chatter that’s going now, “Yeah man, that party was great”. ::rolling eyes::
re: #107 by Runner
Well, that sucks.
They may have been basically a one hit wonder, but they were pros, and millions partied to that song.
re: #106 by CloudyDay
I use Safari for my browser and it doesn’t give me the option to hold my click on a link to “open a new window”. I’ve always thought it was up to the website designer or coder to make sure a click opened a new window. I do know that on 1.0 whenever I click on an embedded link it automatically opens a new window for that link. It’s not a big deal but it does prevent me from clicking on links at 2.0 since it can be a hassle to click on the “back” button in Safari to return to 2.0.
re: #108 by tuffy
That super-secret blog will really attract the new registrants that he so badly needs to replace his bannings.
102. Runner
I just did a web search; try this:
(If you’re using a Mac),
“Pressing CTRL while clicking gives the same effect as a right click.”
Maybe if you try that, you’ll get a pop up menu saying, “Open link in new widow” as is the case on a PC.
re: #103 by no2liberals
Get out of Dodge.
I have seen a host of many great bands through the years but the 60 ones were before my time.
re: #109 by no2liberals
You are right about millions partying to that song. To this day I can still mimic the drum solo with my “air” drums!

re: #108 by tuffy
I would have to agree, what incentive would someone have to just casually look at his site let alone post. The free wheeling market place of ideals is pretty much dead at lgf 1.0.
Okay, gotta crash for the night.
Wish I could stay longer.

re: #113 by song_and_dance_man
Well, I did drive through Dodge City, one time.
I have mentioned it before, but I did see Hendrix.
I also went to a Dick Clark music revue in the early sixties, and one of the warm-up bands was the Stones, with the Yard Byrds being the best known of the five or six bands.
I loved the Yard Byrds.

I have to comment one more time before hitting the rack:
You saw the f-ing Stones in the early 60s? I don’t even know if I’m worthy of posting comments on the same site as you!!!
The Yard Birds? Hendrix? Next you’ll tell me you’re best buddies with Paul McCartney!!!
What memories you must have of the shows you’ve seen.
110 Runner
Yes, a web designer/developer can cause a link to open in a new window by using “target=”_blank” in the href tags (some people are starting to use rel=”external”), but on PCs, you can do so for any link, by using the pop-up window that results from “right clicking” and selecting “open link in new window.”

Here’s what one guy said on some forum:
Some other guy said,
-but that guy doesn’t say where he accessed the “Open link in another window” command.

Of course no one recognized them. The people that listened to Iron Butterfly are likely too old to be going to record stores…or they simply moved out of CA cause it’s too damn expensive there anyway.
Spent a week there and was amazed at the cost of everything.

Yeah, you have mentioned the Hendrix concert before and is worth rementioning. You are one of only three that I know of who have ever seen him or met him.
I didn’t get to see any 60 bands, due to my age at the time, and even though I begged my sister to take me to see the Beatles at Dodger Stadium in 66, it wasn’t until the early 70’s when I began to see the new groups live. Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.

Fitty-eight, and getting better every danged day.
I have decided to make a super secret blog. No one is invited unless you have change for an ice cube.
re: #129 by Runner
Yeah, the Stones were a warm-up band in the revue.
No one had heard of them. This was in Shreveport, and actually, they pretty much turned most of us off. Never did care much for the Stones after that. The skinny guy with the huge lips? We wanted to jump on stage and pound on him.
As for the memories, I must admit, most are fairly…foggy.
No, never met McCartney, or saw the Beatles, mostly because they didn’t interest me much. Sgt. Pepper’s, White Album, much better than that slobbery early stuff they did.
re: #129 by Runner

re: #135 by song_and_dance_man
Never saw Sabbath or DP.
My concert going really dropped off in the 80’s, surged again in the mid to late 90’s, and now has dropped off again.
I just don’t enjoy the crowds at all, anymore.
Too many heads that need slapping.
I was at a Tool concert, back in the mid 90’s, my second time to see them, and the first time after they got famous with the Undertow cd.
I was standing in the lobby waiting for friends, when some guy came walking by wearing a t-shirt with Charlie Manson’s image on the front. I’m like WTF? As he walks by, and I am struggling with the urge to slap his head, I read the words on his back.
CHARLIE DON’T SURF!
I cracked up, and yelled at the guy, and said “and he never will.”
I’m feeling really outta place here… would have LOVED to have seen most of these guys. Also have to admit to never having heard of a couple though (Yard Byrds?). But I guess that shows my age, hey?

re: #145 by dclarke

re: #140 by no2liberals
I agree. Les Paul was a genius for amplified sonic devices. His guitar was the paramount that many identify him with, but what he did with it is lost on just the guitar that bears his name and what he did with the electronics of it all after that. Great artist all around, musically and engineer wise.
The early yardbirds featured Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Jeff Beck.

Ol’ Les never lost his interest in getting more sounds out of his axe.

I still attend concerts to this day. And the back list is, well extensive, as with you.
I’m flying my son to Denver in Aug to see Dream Theater – he really likes the band- and before that we will see Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath with Dio) with a couple other groups that I can’t recollect right now.
Just last month we saw REO Speedwagon, STYX and 38 Special. We went to see the show because my son is a STYX fan now.

I’m the opposite; I like the early stuff but don’t care for the 1970s era (referring to music by the Beatles – but the same also holds true for me with Elvis’ stuff, too).

re: #156 by CloudyDay
The Beatles were and are the greatest band ever to appear in our lifetime.
Well, to put things into Charles’s favorite meme; they remain “lizards” at the other site, unable to stand too much “heat” when confronted with facts, and unable to withstand being left out in the “cold” of no longer being relevant. And like many reptiles, when the sunlight gets too bright on them, they hide under rocks.
We, on the other hand, have “evolved” into logical, thinking, conscious beings, able to reason and adapt and to maintain an even core temperature regardless of the outside conditions of what is said about us. We are free to adapt to whatever conditions we face and to use our talents to shape the world into a better place.
Wow! Who knew? Charles was right about this whole evolution thing after all.
re: #159 by GootoYoubywayoftheZoo
The other perspective of course is that it was the “lizards” that began to evolve. One group became increasingly isolated and over time two distict groups have been formed.
Just another way of looking at it but I think that there is quite a bit of evidence out there of who exactly has “evolving” viewpoints.

Ya know, since these 2 threads, CJ has mysteriously disappeared. Gotta believe he is furiously trying to patch code. So far not so good.

Not in my mind, not by a long shot.
Maybe Chuckles the Clown should start each anti-G-d/Creation thread by bashing the author of this.
The moral of this story… that you can take a liberal, scare the beejesus out of him, and in a very short time he’ll still prefer kool aid.
I am so glad I went back east and escaped from So Cal… It just keeps getting weirder, and all I miss is the food.

‘Mornin’, dear. : )
Mornin’ Ma…. up with the sun today… missed the post getting ready for work. Have a great day, I’m out the door in 15 minutes.
re: #166 by The_Albatross
Well, have a lovely one! Wish I could be there, too! : )
re: #167 by Ma Sands
Hi Ma, any news from your friend?
re: #168 by vagabond trader
Yes! A couple of hours ago I received an e-mail from her. She says she is alright, but is needing to be even more careful than usual.
Her parents & brothers are Muslim, and were shocked when she returned several years ago from getting her degree in the U.S., & told them she’d become a Christian…..
The level of persecution has varied, and once she landed in the hospital, having to shut down her little shop for a month while she recovered…..
re: #169 by Ma Sands
Glad she is ok. How sad that being a Christian is dangerous.
I’d like to see The Obama profess his Christian faith to the Muslim world.Trouble is, he doesn’t have any, imho.
re: #170 by vagabond trader
Yeah, I know. So does every true Christian…..it is an obvious thing with that guy…..
re: #171 by Ma Sands
Hope that even a small percentage of G-d loving Americans realize their mistake in voting for him.
re: #172 by vagabond trader
I like what newsjunkie_ky said earlier in this thread:
re: #169 by Ma Sands
I’m glad to hear that also.
re: #174 by BBEV
Yes. I have been waitin’ ’round here for you to show up, so I could give you the update….glad of the moral support from you and others here, while I was waiting for word…. : )
Heh, Hussein, fired up and ready to protect Islam.Guess that only applies when the evil Juice are involved, Muslim on Muslim, no biggie, its a cultural thing ya know.
The sad decline of a once admirable man and mind.
Without support from the West, No hope for Iran protest

re: #177 by Speranza
Having been in a brutally competetive business, my experience tells me that the volta face of a friend almost always involves money.
re: #179 by vagabond trader
Either money or as others have speculated – a significant other.
By the way, someone pointed out to me that Sharmuta has posted over 81,000 times since June 2007. That girl needs a life desperately.
Good mornin’
Looks like charles has a new fan that might give sharmuta a run for her money.

Charles treats us to the UTMOSt of Lizard fashions!
Say “thank you” with an Amazon purchase, linked through LGF!
Or donate…

I know I am late at this, but Chuckles and the term paranoia, made me do this.
Enjoy it all this fine Monday morning

Well, I did drive through Dodge City, one time.
I have mentioned it before, but I did see Hendrix.
I also went to a Dick Clark music revue in the early sixties, and one of the warm-up bands was the Stones, with the Yard Byrds being the best known of the five or six bands.
I loved the Yard Byrds.
I loved the Yardbirds too. Any group that at one time had first Eric Clapton, then Jeff Beck, and then Jimmy Page on lead guitar was fantastic.
re: #183 by smokefire
A great way to start the day…coffee and Ozzy.
I think that Charles on his invisible threads will have Vince the ShamWow guy, or Flo the Progressive Auto Insurance girl, or Billy Mays the TV pitchman or the free credit report.com guy post their thoughts.
Gee whiz, what will all the resident blog-whores and link pimps do now?
The paranoid pony tail fears the worst…exposing an echo chamber of testicle garglers.
re: #157 by CloudyDay
I’ve already voted twice and the vote is stuck at Israel: 49.8 / Phakistine 50.2.
I have a feeling the Israeli vote is much higher (probably a tidawave for Israel) and CNN has frozen the results because, like the Iranian election, they don’t like the true results.
re: #158 by song_and_dance_man
I have a thing against the Beatles. They stole alot of their riffs from black musicians and then made money on it.
If not for the PR campaign that demanded that everyone love these folks, they’d have been long since outed as riff-stealing hacks.
Alot of good musicians were put out of business trying to reclaim the intellectual rights of their work.
re: #181 by Speranza
That’s what happens when you have an imaginary relationship with a website owner across the country. Evidently you give up the rest of your life.
lol
re: #190 by m
If she was not such a suck up, liar, and back stabber – I would feel sorry for her. Will she go Annie Wilkes (Kathy Bates) on Paul Sheldon (James Caan) one day (the book and film “Misery”)?
At there’s still some disagreement going on at LGF 1 (I wanted to see if their ’spy’ feature was still set to private or not, and it’s not, which is how I came across this)
I wonder how long until that guy gets banned?
