The Paranoia of Charles “Icarus” Johnson Open Thread

Charles  “Icarus” Johnson really is a paranoid individual. He has created a feature to close comments on a thread for public viewing. Only those registered at his Cult Blog can see comments on the private thread. It is Charles’s blog and he has every right to do this. But this just proves what us at 2.0 Blomocracy have been saying about Kid Icarus, He’s a Paranoid control freak. The funny part is that the comments can be seen at LGF Spy! Like his stage name Icarus suggests, he is falling down. Paranoia is not healthy and this man clearly is not all there.

Tech Note: Private Thread Test

Technology | Sun, Jun 14, 2009 at 3:29:47 pm PDT

This is an open thread to test a new feature, making comments visible only to registered lizards.

I can enable the “privacy” feature for individual threads; in most threads I’ll leave it off so everyone can read the comments, registered or not.

But by using the LGF Spy for a private thread, we now have an Ajax-based private chat room, with a log of all comments that’s visible only to registered users. And here we have the first thread to test this concept out.

Remember — to get to the LGF Spy page that allows comment posting for individual threads (private or otherwise), click the green magnifying glass button at the bottom right of an LGF article.

Update: This is where Charles’s Paranoia will lead!

Comments and respectful debate are both welcome and encouraged.

Comments are the sole opinion of the comment writer, just as each thread posted is the sole opinion or post idea of the administrator that posted it or of the readers that have written guest posts for the Blogmocracy.

Obscene, abusive, or annoying remarks may be deleted or moved to spam for admin review, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their content by any other commenter or the admins of this Blogmocracy.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

Had they been in the digital age, Heavens Gate or the Peoples Temple might have loved this community feature in the age of the Gorenet.

Let’s not let others know what we are really thinking.

If you are are a lefty, then be honest and open and try not to hide what you really believe.

If you are are on the right (love that term-because it really describes us) then there is no need to hide.

We are not hiding behind some e-net governed shield granted by a self appointed czar that has a feeling that no one but he and them that follow should have access to what they have to say.

Good luck to them in this endeavor.

There is a wholesome part of character that is garnered when we are allowed to find the truth in the arguments we find conducive to our own mindset that are set against argument that stand against it. It is up to us to find the truth in those words.

But it seems some are opposed to that

Do the lost truly have no empathy for those that have found their way or are they simply focused on their immediate situation? Granted that a large number of people behave in a selfish way I don’t know if this necessarily translates into a complete lack of empathy.

Regarding your comment by a 1.0er:

I for one am not “freaked out.”

I’m just curious as to why it’s being done, and which topics will be set to private and why.

I don’t really visit LGF 1 anymore anyhow, so it doesn’t really make a difference to me.

Also, I know someone, somewhere, will figure out a way around the ‘private’ thing, so it seems rather pointless.

(Kinda like when people use Java Script to stop mouse right-clicking, thinking to themselves, “A-ha, nobody can take images from my site anymore” – there are ways around that, too.)

I can cite many circumstances where the lost cling to their own and find empathy for the like minded.

I cannot disagree with that. And I would also add that there has been an unfortunate tendancy to prey upon this need which in some circumstances has only exacerbated the situation.

I do believe however that there is good in people. And that because of this there must be some empathy for those that have found their way. Of course, not within everyone and I have many circumstances I can cite myself unfortunately.

What I don’t understand is how so many of the Conservative posters over there stay there. They would not post at kos or huffpo but they are being led to the left and the same crazy rants as you would read there. Do they not realize that?

It’s like those obama voters who bought into the hopeychangy thing and now see that he is not what they wanted, but they ‘invested’ their time and energy into building him up and now think he will return to their ideal. Isn’t going to happen for either group.

I do believe however that there is good in people… Of course, not within everyone…

Yes, there is good within everyone, but in my experience that good is suppressed by some. Well maybe… by all too many.

What really troubles me is some have become calloused when it comes to how we are to behave based on this implanted sense of good.

We are endowed with a sense of morality that is inherent and native to us. And if you will allow, is a God given thing. There is an inherent knowledge implanted in every psyche that warns us when wrong is being done.

Granted whatever side of the God implanted morality line one may reside, there can be found empathy for your behavior. For good or evil.

Of course I say this from a right leaning God loving perspective, and there are all too many who will disagree.

P.S. While living in southern California in the early 90s I found myself at Tower Records and there was a graying band behind a table to sign copies of their albums. I think there was some sort of reunion or nostalgia tour. Anyway, there were quite a few people shopping the aisles but not a soul at the table to meet the band. Turns out it was none other than Iron Butterfly and I felt so sad that no one even noticed them.

The private comment thing is so lame. It’s kind of like having a Myspace page set to private and then all of your friends set theirs to private and then everything just becomes one boring, uninteresting echo chamber. Part of the reason people comment at LFG is to be controversial, thus seen and heard. I would lay money on the fact that most lizards don’t WANT their comments not to be seen by others….that’s why they comment. Charles’ paranoia is going to further isolate potential members, not create more interest. Bottom line: it’s lame as lame can be. It’s like going to boring party and trying to convince everyone the next day how great it was. That’s kind of like the thread exit chatter that’s going now, “Yeah man, that party was great”. ::rolling eyes::

I use Safari for my browser and it doesn’t give me the option to hold my click on a link to “open a new window”. I’ve always thought it was up to the website designer or coder to make sure a click opened a new window. I do know that on 1.0 whenever I click on an embedded link it automatically opens a new window for that link. It’s not a big deal but it does prevent me from clicking on links at 2.0 since it can be a hassle to click on the “back” button in Safari to return to 2.0.

Yes, a web designer/developer can cause a link to open in a new window by using “target=”_blank” in the href tags (some people are starting to use rel=”external”), but on PCs, you can do so for any link, by using the pop-up window that results from “right clicking” and selecting “open link in new window.”

    102 Runner

Here’s what one guy said on some forum:

Safari does NOT copy links or open links in a new page properly, it just mimics the same page.

    A MUST FIX.

I’m not sure if this flaw affects other websites, so far I’ve not found any, but I’m looking into it. Only noticed Youtube so far. But it makes Youtube virtually unusable for me in my opinion.

What are you doing to get it to do that? I am able to open links in new windows (CMD+Click) just fine

    Some other guy said,

However, ONLY in Safari 4.0 does COPY LINK or OPEN LINK IN ANOTHER WINDOW not work.

-but that guy doesn’t say where he accessed the “Open link in another window” command.

Well, to put things into Charles’s favorite meme; they remain “lizards” at the other site, unable to stand too much “heat” when confronted with facts, and unable to withstand being left out in the “cold” of no longer being relevant. And like many reptiles, when the sunlight gets too bright on them, they hide under rocks.

We, on the other hand, have “evolved” into logical, thinking, conscious beings, able to reason and adapt and to maintain an even core temperature regardless of the outside conditions of what is said about us. We are free to adapt to whatever conditions we face and to use our talents to shape the world into a better place.

Wow! Who knew? Charles was right about this whole evolution thing after all.

The other perspective of course is that it was the “lizards” that began to evolve. One group became increasingly isolated and over time two distict groups have been formed.

Just another way of looking at it but I think that there is quite a bit of evidence out there of who exactly has “evolving” viewpoints.

Maybe Chuckles the Clown should start each anti-G-d/Creation thread by bashing the author of this.

…laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them…

…all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator

    …that among these are life,…

…the Supreme Judge of the world…

    …protection of Divine Providence

    …. our sacred honor.

  164. 164 | June 15, 2009 4:14 am

The moral of this story… that you can take a liberal, scare the beejesus out of him, and in a very short time he’ll still prefer kool aid.

I am so glad I went back east and escaped from So Cal… It just keeps getting weirder, and all I miss is the food.

Yes! A couple of hours ago I received an e-mail from her. She says she is alright, but is needing to be even more careful than usual.

Her parents & brothers are Muslim, and were shocked when she returned several years ago from getting her degree in the U.S., & told them she’d become a Christian…..

The level of persecution has varied, and once she landed in the hospital, having to shut down her little shop for a month while she recovered…..

Glad she is ok. How sad that being a Christian is dangerous.

I’d like to see The Obama profess his Christian faith to the Muslim world.Trouble is, he doesn’t have any, imho.

I like what newsjunkie_ky said earlier in this thread:

…It’s like those obama voters who bought into the hopeychangy thing and now see that he is not what they wanted, but they ‘invested’ their time and energy into building him up and now think he will return to their ideal. Isn’t going to happen…

Well, I did drive through Dodge City, one time.
I have mentioned it before, but I did see Hendrix.
I also went to a Dick Clark music revue in the early sixties, and one of the warm-up bands was the Stones, with the Yard Byrds being the best known of the five or six bands.
    I loved the Yard Byrds.

I loved the Yardbirds too. Any group that at one time had first Eric Clapton, then Jeff Beck, and then Jimmy Page on lead guitar was fantastic.

I’ve already voted twice and the vote is stuck at Israel: 49.8 / Phakistine 50.2.

I have a feeling the Israeli vote is much higher (probably a tidawave for Israel) and CNN has frozen the results because, like the Iranian election, they don’t like the true results.

I have a thing against the Beatles. They stole alot of their riffs from black musicians and then made money on it.

If not for the PR campaign that demanded that everyone love these folks, they’d have been long since outed as riff-stealing hacks.

Alot of good musicians were put out of business trying to reclaim the intellectual rights of their work.

Some people find it better to be anti-Obama than factually correct.

And some people wouldn’t criticize Obama if he stomped on their fingers while they were hanging from a cliff.

I wonder how long until that guy gets banned?
