TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) — Iran announced Wednesday that it successfully tested another “Sajil” missile, a surface-to-surface missile with a range that makes it capable of reaching parts of Europe.
A similar test was carried out in November.
U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he understood Wednesday’s test of the missile, with an approximate range of 1,200 miles, was successful. … Iran says the missiles have a range of almost 2,000 kilometers (1,243 miles). If that is true, the missile brings Moscow, Russia, Athens, Greece, and southern Italy within striking distance from Iran, according to Jane’s, which provides information on defense issues.

Ahmadinejad, whose moderate challengers in the June 12 vote accuse him of isolating Iran with his anti-Western speeches, said the country had the power to send any attacker “to hell”.
The launch came within hours of Iran’s constitutional watchdog approving four leading candidates to stand in the election. About 46 million Iranians over 18 years old are eligible to vote in Iran’s tenth presidential election since the 1979 Islamic revolution. The three other candidates have said Iran needs to have interaction and a “policy of detente” with the West. Ahmadinejad came to power in 2005 vowing to share out oil wealth more fairly, but critics blame him for disappointing economic growth and high inflation. However, his promises of a fairer redistribution of income still resonate with the poor. [another socialist, heh™]

The big worry regarding Iran is not their Imperialist ambitions which has manifested itself throughout history but, I believe, the internal dissent within that country.
Repressive regimes always deal with internal dissent by cracking down with draconian and extra judicial measures which only gives rise to greater dissent and could lead to a revolution. Ceausescu in Romania found that out.
Often, and Galtieri in Argentina is an example, the regime will try to capitalize on an historic grievance by starting some foreign military adventure in an effort to arouse the patriotism of the people and so keep themselves in power.
That is the danger with Iran. We know there is internal dissent, and we know that apart from their antipathy towards Israel, there is no love lost between the Persians and the Arabs.

Many of us are still wondering about the direction LGF has taken and the perpetual bannings of old time posters. I was never banned simply because I stopped posting and couldn’t be bothered to register.
However, his flame war with Fjordman, Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller smacked of rank hypocrisy. He was upset with them going to conferences where Vlaams Belang, a supposed right wing racist supremacist group would be attending. For all I know they might be, however I remember in the old days Nancy posted a piece on a Spanish speaking Central American rally in, I think, NYC, and the post had overtones similar to what he says Vlaams Belang use. I can’t be bothered to go through his archives, (if they are still online), to find out when.
Apart from the cowering hippie and burqa clad lady cartoon, I think he has also dropped the flashing Kilian memos from his site. I remember in the aftermath of that episode, several TV executives including Dan Rather and, if I remember rightly, a lady called Mary Mapes lost their jobs. Ms Mapes wrote a book about the episode which LGF had nasty things to say, especially her charge that the blogosphere was a giant echo chamber.
She was wrong about LGF then, it was a forum, but with all the bannings and blockings, she would be right now.

Odd about the paranoia at LGF. Like GOTC I simply posted at another site and found myself banned. Like her I never disparaged CJ, but expressed my discomfort with the anti-creationist meme. I never even went to site to say goodbye. I simply stopped posting.
The site I went to posted a thread bemoaning LGF and CJ. It was respectful, but sorrowful praising both past works and asking what happened.
The site was recommended to me by a friend of mine, someone I met through another site and actually met in person. He is a TV producer and is the only person I gave a tour of the Pentagon to while I worked there.
What I found so interesting about the site was the insight of at least one of the site-host, a fellow who was from Europe. In his piece about LGF was an explanation of the European news echo chamber regarding certain groups that were fighting the EU and the policy of allowing the continent to be flooded with muslims to the detriment of the native population.
I don’t know if Vlaams Belang was specifically mentioned (I think it was because it was familiar to me) but this fellow explained that the news media would often attack these groups in order to nulify them, often attaching the label of nazi, supremist or fascist to them and compared it to how our media often engages in the same parroting (if you’ve ever listened to one of Rush’s “drive-by” sound bites you know what I mean). He said that to most Europeans when you start hearing that rhetoric the red flags immediately go up and you know they are lying.
Since I don’t much about the inner working of Europe, I also expressed my gratitude to the writer for the “heads-up” and would look at these groups with a more open mind. Perhaps that was my “sin” after all.
It still took him (CJ) over a month to ban me, but what the hey. I’m glad, because I would never have sought out this site if it hadn’t happened. So I consider my banning a badge of honor and I’m so happy to see so many people who I’ve really missed “seeing.”
What amuses me is Mr. Trout calling this a ’stalker blog’.

Obviously not just here. I swear, he has minions pouring over many sites seeking apostates.
Regarding the posted story, I just don’t “get” the complacency in accepting a nuclear Iran. They have consistantly shown themselves to be bad neighbors (hezballah, hamas, et al) and are run by the mad mullahs, who wouldn’t know restraint if it came up and bite them.
Even a nuclear Pakistan hasn’t been the horrendous disaster it could be, albeit with their war against a nuclear India it has at least kept the missils pointed at each other rather than at anybody else.
Why can’t these appeasing idiots see that this destablizes the entire region. With this development how long before Iran’s Arab neighbors also seek nuclear weapons in an effort to rebalance the region. I’m sure Russia and China will be most happy to oblige.
Also, since that region seems to be run by such rhetorical hotheads, how long before the first shot is fired?
The world has become a much less safe place to live and with “Teh Won” they know they are on their own. The world can no longer look to the “world’s police force” to step in and protect them from themselves.
I’m an active member at LGF. The treatment of GOTC over the last days has convinced me that I should keep an open mind about these alternative blogs. Watching her character being smeared just because she visited another blog has been enlightening. Charles and his pet posters should be ashamed of themselves for their narrow-minded and hateful rush to judgment.

A poster or two talking smack at LGF1.0 about GOTC shows a few things.
They have a great deal of respect for GOTC and her opinion that they now have to come to grips with. So they deal with it in a very sophomoric fashion by badmouthing GOTC then they don’t have to really deal with why GOTC did what she did.

I remember when I had been banned, the floodgates opened and the hatred spewed.
That is the nature of the internet. But I always felt I had this over any of those folks who trashed me upon my banning: I post under my real name, they were always far too cowardly to do that, but just insecure enough to trash me.

Yup, but life isn’t about always agreeing. It is about being respectful when one disagrees with you.
I was once given exceptionally good advice:
“If people are saying horrible things about you, you must make sure to live your life in such a way that when they see you it is impossible to believe the horrible things.”
Accordingly, I challenge any “lizardoid” to come to the Blogmocracy and see how we do things. Do we have “disreputable” posters? YEP (no, I will not name names) But so what!? They do not speak for me, nor I for them.
Could we ban these people? YEP, but we won’t. Why? Because they have the right to have an opinion that is different than mine. I am confident enough in my own beliefs that I do not have to banish all others. I am strong enough in my own convictions that I will allow those who disagree to voice theirs, and I will call them on it, and we will debate. I am an adult and thus can read the words of those I do not agree, and just accept that I believe them to be wrong.
I too had a horrible opinion of what was once called “LGF2″, but when I stop to think about it, it was based solely on what Charles and LGF said – but not actually on 1st hand evidence. This was unfair to “LGF2″.
But beyond that, we are now The Blogmocracy. And Thank G-d for that!

I’m a conservative and a christian. I stood up for christianity getting attacked just as I did for judiasm getting attacked (Which should be expected… if I stand up for another religion, shouldn’t I stand up for mine? According to zombie, no..). Charles can’t have posters like myself, if he is trying to move to the left and focus on anti-christian themes. He got rid of alot of other folks who were like me in that regard.
Then when the obvious choices were gone, he had to start banning based on people who silently protested, via the up/down vote system.

Very true. I just am myself. Let people say what they will. Some will be right, others will be wrong. The important part is that I don’t much care, other than the ‘moments of character’ displayed by some of the folks there.
Moments of Character are important. They’re moments that define your character. They are often for small things, normally (saddly) negative.
Once one fails a moment of character, their value as a person goes down and is often unale to be replaced.
Moments of Character, you see, don’t change who you are…. they reveal who you are.

Yes it should. We have many of the amazing, and wonderful ex-LGF posters here. Truth is, we pretty much have all of the great LGF posters now. The good/great very much so outnumber the bad.
We are obviously still hurting. And I think this is a good place to comfort folks that feel deserted or betrayed by 1.0. My leaving was fairly amicable (in retrospect) I told him I was leaving and why. I am a bit distressed by his Orwellian deletion of posts. Would someone do me a favor and see if he has deleted my small history of posting? ‘billhedrick’ was (and is!) my name.
