Don’t Be So Hasty, Charles

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

This is a post by my good friend Konservo at his blog . He was also banned at LGF for pointing out Charles’s hypocrisy. He has asked me to cross post this at LGF2.0.

Posted By Konservo

LGF has been giving balanced coverage of President Obama’s actions. At times Charles criticizes, at other times he defends Obama and the Democrats. Over at HotAir bloggers are outraged over what seems to be a statement by Obama in which he asserts his intention to silence criticism: White House: We’ll cut off criticism of Porkulus. But LGF is claims that this is nonsense:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. It’s a responsible move, to prevent abuse of stimulus funds.

Not so fast, Charles.

Cafe Hayek has already posted on the intimidation and thuggish tactics that the Democrats are using to keep criticism levels down. Here’s the text of a letter that the Democrats have sent to a private citizen who just so happens to oppose the way things are being handled in D.C.

Dear Mr. Frey:

We were outraged to read in today’s New York Times that you are actively opposing our efforts to achieve a diminution in foreclosures by voluntary efforts. Your decision is a serious threat to our efforts to respond to the current economic crisis, and we strongly urge you to reverse it. Given the importance of this to the economy and to what it means for future regulatory efforts, we have set a hearing for November 12, and we invite you now to testify. We believe it is essential for our policymaking function for you to appear at such a hearing, and if this cannot be arranged on a voluntary basis, then we will pursue further steps.

For the hedge fund industry, which has flourished for much of the past decade, to take steps so actively in opposition to what is currently in the national economic interest is deeply troubling and will clearly have serious implications for the rules by which we operate in the future if this posture of obstruction of our efforts is maintained. We very much hope you will be able to tell us very soon that you have reversed your position of trying to obstruct the operation of the bill that was overwhelmingly passed by Congress and signed by the President this summer, and we hope that you will also affirm your presence at the hearing on November 12.

This letter is signed by Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Luis V. Gutierrez, Paul E. Kanjorski, Caroline Maloney, and Melvin L. Watt.

Here’s the pdf:

Letter of Intimidation

Obama seems to be taking a page from Barney Frank’s book of crime under the guise of politics. The President of the United States wants to control the expressed opinions of “anyone else exerting influence on the [stimulus spending] process.”

Charles at LGF misreads the restriction:

This restriction only applies to people who are competing for stimulus money. They’re not allowed to communicate with government representatives responsible for a particular claim unless they put it in writing, after the claim is filed but before the money is awarded. This is obviously intended to prevent corruption, and make sure that any claims for stimulus money are completely above board.

Well, no. The restriction applies to “anyone else exerting influence on the process,” as is stated in the White House blog post. An editorial in a newspaper would certainly count as an exertion of influence, would it not?

I would honestly like to believe that this is being done in the interest of full disclosure and transparency, so that the American people can read what would have gone on behind closed doors, but, given the the fact that Democrats like Barney Frank have already written letters of intimidation to private citizens in order to “urge” folks “to reverse their opinions,” it’s doubtful if the Obama Adm. is acting in good-faith here.

LGF using murder of Dr. George Tiller to Smear Pro Lifers

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Charles Foster “Icarus” Johnson is now jumping on the murder of Dr. George Tiller to smear Pro Lifers. This man was a killer of children. Late term abortions are murder. These types of things happen to those that do wrong.

Bad Craziness Watch: Right Wing Reaction to the Tiller Murder

Blogosphere | Sun, May 31, 2009 at 4:18:30 pm PDT

At Free Republic, they’re celebrating the murder of Dr. George Tiller. From the following two threads:

Report: George Tiller Shot To Death [Child Murderer Killed At Wichita Church]
George Tiller (Child Murderer) shot to death at Wichita church

… a selection of comments, among hundreds (if not thousands) of similar comments:

I’m not weeping for the scumbag himself.I haven’t the fainest doubt that he is,at this very moment, rotting in the very special place in hell that he so richly earned.

What I’m saying is that this will hurt the anti-abortion *cause*…and hurt it badly.

If you doubt me…just watch.

Up to a few years ago, I would have agreed with your statement, Doug.

However, bush2 failed miserably with his “friendly tone” and I’m beginning to think we MUST bring a gun to a gun fight if we have any chance to win this battle against satan and his minions.

One less nazi as far as I am concerned.

What goes around comes around…

Hope the guy gets away

When I first read this, part of me wondered if some liberal isn’t secretly behind this to get just the outcome you have listed. I used to not be so paranoid, until this surreal reality replaced what used to be. Interesting the timing of this, as it was recently released that according to polls a majority of Americans are anti-abortion/pro-life. Good way to discredit the movement and those beliefs – assassinate an abortionist.

Obama is going to take advantage of this murder to sieze even more control over our society.

I would not even put it past them to commit this murder themselves, as an excuse to sieze power. Reichstag Fire, and all that…

No doubt this ‘man’ is responsible for thousands, maybe tens-of-thousands of needless and wanton deaths. If you think his ‘passing’ is a bad thing in the cause of speaking out and ending the practice of abortion, I don’t know what to tell you. I can only say that I shall not mourn his demise, nor shall I judge others.

It’s too bad the suspect didn’t poke a roto rooter through his skull and then suck him into a vacuum cleaner instead of just shooting the bastard.

You guys celebrating this may just be celebrating the loss of your own freedoms. Don’t be fools. This isn’t good nor is it right.

My, my, that idea just scares me to death. I guess I should be a damned hypocrite and say that I’m sorry someone offed the lousey ration of skunksqueeze.

Not in this life.

Hmmm. The shooter no doubt committed murder by our laws.
Whether he will be judged as a murderer by God may be an open question, and none of us know the answer.

In 1942 Reinhard Heydrich was killed in Prague in cold blood. Czech commandos committed what was by the law of the land murder. They were from a country that had surrendered and they were not in uniform. They did this because he was orchestrating the destruction of the Czech people. Did they kill a tyrant or commit murder or both? There is also the case of course of John Brown and slavery.

Yes we must obey our laws, until we can no longer live with the result of not obeying them.

Do you think that it would have been murder to assignate Hitler? And don’t say that the question has no relevance — this crud was a leading the killer-of-innocents criminal thugs that has already killed throughout the world far more innocents that Hitler, Stalin and Mao combined.

His killer did a great service when noone else would do it.

I do not support this, but I do understand this.

Kansas politics has been corrupted to the core by George Tiller, making him like a mobster above the law.

He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword.

Whatever “church” Tiller attends must be worshipping satan.

There are a lot more in this vein. It goes on and on and on.

Comments like this are posted at right-wing blogs and news sites all over the web, by the thousands. For another example, at the Fox News affiliate website in Kansas City:

Seems to me he got what he deserved. We now have one less child killer on the loose
steve archer @ 2:24 PM CDT, May 31, 2009

The killing of George Tiller is an eye for an eye, but much too late IMO. He’d have to die many, many times over to make up for the babies he has murdered.
Rob @ 2:23 PM CDT, May 31, 2009

One down—how many left to go? The shooter is a martyr, my prayers are with him.
chrissypoo6 @ 2:22 PM CDT, May 31, 2009

Some right wing blogs are closing comments on threads about the murder, and judging from the vile, sick stuff you see above, that’s probably a good idea.

This is very, very bad craziness, at its worst. Shame on all you people who are gloating and partying over a murder that took place inside a church. And you call yourselves “Christians?” What the hell is wrong with you?

I’m pleased to say that LGF did not join in this orgy of murder celebration; we had a few over the top comments, but they were quickly deleted, and a couple of people lost their accounts.

Late term abortions are murder. We can debate early term abortions but late term is not debatable. Clearly Kid Icarus supports infanticide and the murder of innocent life. The fact that people don’t fell sorry for this doctor doesn’t mean people support his murder.

Besides being exposed as a totalitarian leftist, Charles Johnson is now on record supporting infanticide. He really is a low life slug.

Update: Just so that my words don’t get twisted, I don’t support the murder of Dr. George Tiller. Murder is wrong and as for the idiot who killed this man, I hope he gets the worst possible punishment. However, I have no pity on a baby killer. That is my opinion.

Update 2: Anti Christian Bigot Killgore Trout is now claiming we are supporting the murder of  Dr. Tiller.

There was no post deleted or one celebrating the death of Tiller. This is just the delusion of a Leftist Bigot.

Some Things Have Changed Since China’s Bloody Crackdown On Demonstrators In 1989, Including The Dreams Of Democracy
BEIJING, May 31, 2009

(CBS) Twenty years ago this week, the Chinese government used deadly force to break up a democracy demonstration in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. Much has changed in the two decades since, but some things haven’t. When asked for comment on this story, the Chinese Embassy in Washington not only declined, but asked us NOT to air the report. Here it is, from Barry Petersen:

Looking for democracy in China? You can find it by millions voting on their cell phones in a Chinese version of “American Idol,” choosing to ignore the paradox that the citizens of the world’s most populous nation are free to vote for a singer … but not for their own leaders.

How distant from 20 years ago when students took over the heart of their nation’s capital, Tiananmen Square, demanding reforms of all kinds, under the gaze of a statue they called the Goddess of Democracy.

Attracting support from millions in all walks of life gave students the bravery to go face-to-face with their leaders, thinking their cause could bring change.

Israel stages biggest-ever war drill

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

JERUSALEM (CNN) — Israel started its biggest emergency drill in the nation’s history Sunday to prepare civilians, soldiers and rescue crews for the possibility of war, the defense force said in a statement.

The five-day drill, nicknamed Turning Point 3, comes amid the nation’s rising tensions with Iran.

It will be conducted in public facilities, including schools, military bases and government offices. Students, soldiers and other civilians will practice how to gather at protected places during an emergency.

Officials said the drill will include simulated rockets, air raids and other attacks on infrastructure and essential facilities, and use of weapons on civilians

Good to know.

NEVER AGAIN.

And they call US stalkers?

I happened to be browsing through the AoSHQ threads and I was alerted through our email system to a post by Irish Rose which is as follows:

******************************************************************************
Do you know what it means to be “intellectually dishonest”?

You’re a smart enough person, so I’d guess that you do.

Since you seem to be a bit challenged in the honesty department, though, I’ll post the def here from Wiki:

Intellectual dishonesty is dishonesty in performing intellectual activities like thought or communication. Examples are:

* the advocacy of a position which the advocate knows or believes to be false or misleading

* the advocacy of a position which the advocate does not know to be true, and has not performed rigorous due diligence to ensure the truthfulness of the position

* the conscious omission of aspects of the truth known or believed to be relevant in the particular context.

Now, you and I both know that Mr. Johnson isn’t collecting documentation about certain individuals simply because these people “disagree” with him… you know it full well.

ed. note: he sure the hell has!

So don’t be an ignoramus and post your intellectually dishonest crapola here. This blogger knows better and is going to call you on it.

Look, friend… this is the way it works in the real world:

Negative and dishonest actions and behaviors come with consequences, consequences that are usually painful… sometimes very painful. It’s a hard fact of life, and a sad lesson that we all have to learn eventually (some of us learn it sooner rather than later).

The arrogant blog jockeys who have been attacking Mr. Johnson relentlessly for months on end – slandering him in public and libeling him on every website that will give them the bandwidth to do so – have stupidly fooled themselves into thinking that they can’t be identified.

They also believe that they are above accountability, for some odd reason.

They’re wrong on both counts, as they will soon be finding out.

You didn’t really think that Mr. Johnson was going to let you get away with smears, slander and libel indefinitely, did you?

Your time of reckoning has arrived. So enjoy those painful consequences, friend… I hear that they go down good with a nice slice of humble pie.

Looks like a threat to me.

Obama to offer Muslim Personal Commitment

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Obama being a good appeaser is now going to offer Muslims a “Personal Commitment”. He claims we will build bridges and pursue “Common Interest”. Whats are the common interest we have with Islam. I have none and despise their Barbaric Society.

Obama speech to offer personal commitment to Muslims

President Barack Obama will offer a “personal commitment” to bridge US differences with Muslims in his long-awaited speech to the Islamic world next week in Egypt, aides said. But White House advisors said Friday that Obama would not shy away from addressing “tough issues” in the speech on Thursday at the University of Cairo which will be co-hosted by Al-Azhar University, an ancient center of Islam and learning.

Egypt is Muslim occupied. The Coptic Christians are the real Egyptians and I doubt Obama will meet with them. Its ironic he chooses a conquered land to address the Muslims. No thanks I don’t want any bridges with Islam. I wish America would realize the dangers we are playing with.

Bill O’Reilly The Pseudo Internet Cop!

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

via Hot Air & Patterico

This from Hot Air, (emphasis mine)

The entire O’Reilly Factor kerfuffle started when Bill assigned himself the role of internet cop and busted us (Hot Air) for writing hateful posts — by quoting a commenter, a newfangled development on blogs which apparently confused Bill.
[...]
Patterico then took Bill at his word and paid good money to join Bill’s site (note that we don’t charge people to read Hot Air) and did a little internet policing of his own.

Did Patterico get a high-five from the Factor for his intrepid work in pointing out hateful comments?  Not exactly:

This from Patterico
Patterico Banned from BillOReilly.com

I wish I could share today’s “BillOReilly.com blog posting” . . . but my membership has been terminated:

Sound familiar?

And by the way I agree with Patterico, O’Reilly is a hypocrite.

On a side Note: Miss Malkin owns Hot Air.

Judge Sotomayor, Empathize This! (thanks vagabond trader!)

We are told by our betters to accept prima facie Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor’s quite astonishing statement that the “richness” of her experience and derivative empathy automatically leads to better legal reasoning. Fine, let’s accept it for a moment. But what exactly is so rich about her experience?

The Reeducation of Abu Jandal
Can jihadists really be reformed? Closing Guantanamo may depend on it.

Now that President Barack Obama has pledged to close the prison at Guantána-mo Bay within the year, some Yemeni and American officials want al-Hitar’s help again.

There is only one problem with all this: al-Hitar’s program doesn’t work. By 2004 at least some of the judge’s graduates had begun showing up in Iraq, American officials warned their Yemeni counterparts. Among al-Hitar’s students, the program was a joke. “To be frank, everyone was making fun of him,” says one former prisoner, who gave his name only as “Abu Hurieh” to avoid drawing renewed attention from the secret police. “We all understood that it was just extortion to take money from the Americans. They were just playing with us.” Even Saleh acknowledges that al-Hitar’s program was only effective about 60 percent of the time. The flaw, in retrospect, seems obvious: a prisoner will say anything to get out of jail. “If Satan himself told me to sign, I would have,” al-Bahri told me. Al-Hitar’s program, he explained, “was completely useless.”

Chávez Seeks Tighter Grip on Military
and everything else

Since February, Mr. Chávez has moved against a wide range of domestic critics, and his efforts in recent weeks to strengthen his grip on the armed forces have led to high-profile arrests and a wave of reassignments.

In recent months, the crackdown has been extended to the civilian arena. Manuel Rosales, the president’s opponent in the 2006 elections, sought asylum in Peru after being faced with corruption charges, and Mr. Chávez handpicked a new mayor for Caracas after legislators eliminated most of the budget of the elected mayor, Antonio Ledezma.

The government even singled out smaller targets, like an outspoken biologist critical of Mr. Chávez who was fired from his tenured post at the Institute of Advanced Studies, a state-run scientific research group.

N. Korea threatens revenge if punished for nuclear test of course

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea on Friday vowed to retaliate if punitive U.N. sanctions are imposed for its latest nuclear test, and U.S. officials said there are new signs Pyongyang may be planning more long-range missile launches.

But officials said the heavily fortified border remains calm and U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Washington does not see the situation as a crisis warranting any more troops to augment the 28,000 U.S. forces already in South Korea.

“I don’t think that anybody in the (Obama) administration thinks there is a crisis,” Gates, en route to Singapore for regional defense talks, told reporters aboard his military jet.

The draft of a U.N. resolution being negotiated in response to the North’s second nuclear test calls on all countries to immediately enforce sanctions imposed after the North’s first test in 2006.

So the response is to finally try to enforce what they called for 3 years ago? Toothless doesn’t begin to describe the UN.

The women have had no contact with the West in the two months since.
