Welfare for Gitmo detainees being released in the US?
Your tax dollars hard at work.
During his news conference, Blair also said the Obama administration is still wrestling with what to do with the remaining 240 detainees at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, which the president has ordered closed.
Some of the detainees, deemed non-threatening, may be released into the United States as free men, Blair confirmed.
That would happen when they can’t be returned to their home countries, because the governments either won’t take them or the U.S. fears they will be abused or tortured. That is the case with 17 Uighers (WEE’-gurz), Chinese Muslim separatists who were cleared for release from the jail long ago. The U.S. can’t find a country willing to take them, and it will not turn them over to China.
Blair said the former prisoners would have get some sort of assistance to start their new lives in the United States.
“We can’t put them out on the street,” he said.
The entire AP article
Terrorism does pay and it pays pretty well. But only because we let it.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Sorry, Savage, I went post nuts crazy this morning

THE FOOL ON THE HILL……..US President Barack Obama Friday proposed setting up a new contact group on Afghanistan including long-standing US foe Iran to help find ways of quelling the bloody Al-Qaeda insurgency. http://www.breitbart.com/article…icle=1& catnum=0 ..Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told his Syrian counterpart, Bashar Assad, on Friday that Israel and the US were “weakening with God’s help”. During the phone conversation quoted by Iranian news agencies Ahmadinejad said, “The strong camp of friendly countries such as Iran and Syria are on their way to victory.”
According to the Iranian leader, “The regional conditions are working in favor of the Muslim countries and against the Zionist regime and its allies.”
Assad said that Syria and Iran were “in the same fortress”, and Ahmadinejad said the two countries should “take advantage of abilities and opportunities in a wise manner”.
Early in March Iran’s president convened a conference for the support of the Palestinian people, in which he said legal measures would bear results “and the criminals of the Zionist regime will eventually be put to death”. He called for “a global front against Zionism which would work to support the people in Gaza and in Palestine on the one hand, and work to punish the Zionist criminals on the other hand.” http://windsofbabylon.com/2009/03/27/obama-kisses-ass-ahmadinejad-laughs.aspx
Milan (AsiaNews) – The “Age of the dollar” might be at an end. The G20 summit in London is likely to address the issue of whether to replace the US dollar as the world’s reserve currency or not. The current global financial crisis is forcing some rethink how the world economy might be reformed. A single international reserve currency might not be such a bad idea, according to Zhou Xiaochuan, China’s central bank governor. Ending the supremacy of the greenback is not a new idea.
In a clear reference to the US dollar, Zhou said in article published on Tuesday that the desirable goal of the international monetary system is to “create an international reserve currency that is disconnected from individual nations and is able to remain stable in the long run, thus removing the inherent deficiencies caused by using credit-based national currencies.”
Created almost 40 years ago as a “basket” of major currencies (US dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen, and the pound sterling), the Special Drawing Right of the International Monetary Fund has the potential to be a super-sovereign reserve currency, Zhou said, who hinted that the Chinese yuan might be added to the basket
As the main holder of US dollars China is afraid that US policy might simple devalued its holdings. In particular China’s central bank governor seems irked by the ways the United States is reacting to the economic crisis, by printing money and issuing treasury bills, which is causing the US dollar to drop in value.

In all fairness to the POTUS, the individuals that are going to be released into the U.S. have been deemed to not be threats.
Is it just me or has the U.S.’s success began to lessen since Bush became the 1st U.S. President to call for a “Palestinian State” on land G-d gave to Israel, thus directly contradicting the wishes and word of G-d?
Coincidence?

What was that regarding?
(and why exactly can’t he just ignore them, instead of threatening banishment?)
Bayonet-
It was from this thread on Texas School Board Creationists.

NO COMPLAINING, or DISSENT allowed!!
Wrath,
Please assure me, and others, that the following, quoted from your recent post, is sarcasm. “In all fairness to the POTUS, the individuals that are going to be released into the U.S. have been deemed to not be threats.”

I’m surprised you left these gems out:

Initially I saw this as petty myself. And never cared to look into it. Because of Charles I see the extreme nonsense this poses.

I don’t see creationism as witchcraft.
Yeah; witchcraft is much more respectable.

Sorry to disappoint you, but no I wasn’t being sarcastic.
Wrath,
Perhaps you have more specific information regarding the individuals in question than I do. My understanding is that there is a category of prisoners whose home countries either will not accept their return or who are likely if returned, to receive harsh treatment from those home countries. If that is correct, why should we not be somewhat cautious about potential threats from such individuals.
Mind you, I have set aside, for purposes of this inquiry, those individuals previously released who have returned to the battlefields to present active threats to our military personnel. I will admit, however, that those previous experiences tend to make me favor erring on the side of caution. On top of that, I fear that preservation of the Administration’s “compassionate” image has a higher priority than the safety of our citizens.

I have no special knowledge. I am just going off the quote from above of “Some of the detainees, deemed non-threatening, may be released into the United States as free men, Blair confirmed.”
That is all I know about them. Truthfully, the fact that they might be hurt by their own despotic countries might actually be good for us, it could be because they are Westernized. I don’t know of China or Arab/Muslim countries hurting their citizens for things the U.S. dislikes (such as Islamisation, or Terrorism).
However, your point about me putting too much faith in those who found them to be “non-threatening” is accepted. If it were the Obama Admin then you probably have a great point about being “cautious”. What Obama considers threatening and what I consider threatening are very different.

I would have to check, but I am fairly certain that Ronald Reagan was also seeking a “Palestinian” state.
And I would think that Jimmy Carter was seeking one also.
Its been our ME policy for a long time, but I am not sure exactly when it started.
16. Bar
President George W. Bush is pretty sure he was the first: “I was the first American President to call for a Palestinian state, and building support for the two-state solution has been one of the highest priorities of my Presidency….We backed Prime Minister Sharon’s courageous withdrawal from Gaza…”

If these Uighers are such non-threatening, peaceful folks, then how did they end up in Gitmo in the first place?
Anyone know why, or for that matter, where, they were captured?
Our track record in letting detainee’s go only to return to Jihad, gives me little comfort in allowing these prisoners to be in America and then collecting welfare.
I have a good feeling that many years down the road some of these “detainees” will get in an American prison convicted of homegrown Jihad.
How about me? I am not a terrorist. I am an a-hole but I am not a terrorist, yet the government is not helping my ass out, WTF.
I took a rock to the windshield in my work truck today, so now I need a new one and I discovered my boat had 8 inches of standing water in the bilge and the lower cabin. So now the motor needs a ton of work. The good news is it was freshwater not saltwater, so at least I have that going for me.
Where is my boat bailout? Oh that’s right I was doing that all morning, never mind.
The Reagan Plan (September 1, 1982)
I was wrong about Reagan seeking a state for Palestine.
There should be no doubt left, the left are PC thug hugging accomplices of Islamists and all those who want to see America humbled.
Uighurs and Hui Muslims went to train in Afghanistan and Pakistan for their ongoing attempt to separate the Xinjiang Province from the rest of China. I learned this while researching out first adoption from China- Xinjiang is one of the only provinces that’s not included in the Chinese adoption program. There’s a small minority of both groups in our youngest daughter’s birth province, Yunnan. She was found in a Muslim neighborhood, but is clearly of a different ethnic group- not even Han.
The obvious Muslim presence had noticeably increased from our first trip there in 2006 to the second in 2008. And the Chinese authorities have no problem pulling them aside in airports, etc for extra screening.
Well, what else will the USA do with them? We were asked to take them here but our response was “If they are not good enough to live in American society, why would they be good enough to live in Australian society?”.
So, any other suggestions as to what you do with them?
aussie_dave,
Yes, send them back to China.
I say we should ship them to Venezuela.
Chavez has said in the past that the Gitmo guys were innocent political prisoners or valiant freedom-fighters in the Grand Movement against American imperialism.
So let him have them.
Perfect solution.
24. no2liberals. Apparently they will be killed there. Not important eh?
25. Anastasia. That’s the closest thing to a solution I have heard.
#25. Anastasia: Unfortunately, Hugo Chavez would teach them Spanish to blend in with the mexican population and then help them to
sneakwaltz across our southern border. They need to be shipped somewhere overseas…
Maybe we can start a new Antarctic Jihad Research Station.
aussie_dave,
I don’t mean to sound callous, and I’m familiar with China’s human rights abuses, but that is their country of origin, and they are willing to accept them, unlike some of the other detainees.
We don’t know that they will be killed, only that it’s a possibility. I’m more concerned about my own country. These are trained terrorists who were captured on the battlefield, not the ideal candidates for amnesty in this country.
Just a note: UK, thanks to its courts, regularly refuses to repatriate terrorists for this reason. Of course, the terrorists end up on UK streets instead. It’s sort of like being lenient on the kid who kills his parents because he’s an orphan.
If these guys have been deemed terrorists by a reasonable quasi-legal procedure, back they should go.
It’s possible that I’ve missed something in trying to keep up with this issue, but I don’t think so. Aussie Dave’s #23 indicates that he, and presumably others in Australia, know that we tried to get their country to take these people and were justifiably refused. The coverage of the situation in the US, at least that which I’ve seen, never mentions that event. Our media never misses a chance to cover for the Obama administration. I wonder who else they tried to fob these “harmless” people off on before they decided to test the waters on the possibility of letting them loose here?
The fuck with that. Send ‘em back where they came from.
No, you KILL them. All of them.
Interesting… when I was being paid 12 bucks an hour, coming up 100 dollars short a month in my budget (which was little more than gas, rent and food) I was unable to qualify for assstance because I made too much money.
Apparently I just needed to bomb some buildings.
