Aliens Attack!

An Arizona man is being sued by 16 Illegal Aliens who accuse him of conspiring to violate their civil rights when he stopped them at gunpoint on his ranch on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Roger Barnett, 64, began rounding up illegal immigrants in 1998 and turning them over to the U.S. Border Patrol, he said, after they destroyed his property, killed his calves and broke into his home.

His Cross Rail Ranch near Douglas, Ariz., is known by federal and county law enforcement authorities as “the avenue of choice” for immigrants seeking to enter the United States illegally.

Trial continues Monday in the federal lawsuit, which seeks $32 million in actual and punitive damages for civil rights violations, the infliction of emotional distress and other crimes. Also named are Mr. Barnett’s wife, Barbara, his brother, Donald, and Larry Dever, sheriff in Cochise County, Ariz., where the Barnetts live. The civil trial is expected to continue until Friday.

The lawsuit is based on a March 7, 2004, incident in a dry wash on the 22,000-acre ranch, when he approached a group of illegal immigrants while carrying a gun and accompanied by a large dog.

Attorneys for the immigrants – five women and 11 men who were trying to cross illegally into the United States – have accused Mr. Barnett of holding the group captive at gunpoint, threatening to turn his dog loose on them and saying he would shoot anyone who tried to escape.

The immigrants are represented at trial by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), which also charged that Sheriff Dever did nothing to prevent Mr. Barnett from holding their clients at “gunpoint, yelling obscenities at them and kicking one of the women.”

In the lawsuit, MALDEF said Mr. Barnett approached the group as the immigrants moved through his property, and that he was carrying a pistol and threatening them in English and Spanish. At one point, it said, Mr. Barnett’s dog barked at several of the women and he yelled at them in Spanish, “My dog is hungry and he’s hungry for buttocks.”

The lawsuit said he then called his wife and two Border Patrol agents arrived at the site. It also said Mr. Barnett acknowledged that he had turned over 12,000 illegal immigrants to the Border Patrol since 1998.

I’m not sure what MALDEF is complaining about……Mr. Barnett DID speak to them in both English & Spanish.

That was quite multicultural of him, I think!

Multicultural Hi-Yo, Silver! Tonto is Spanish for “stupid” or “fool” .

Tonto responded by calling the Lone Ranger “qui no sabe” (with an Indian accent), which roughly translates from Spanish as “he who knows nothing” or “clueless”.

    Buddy,

I wonder if MALDEF is to Illegals as CAIR is to Islamists.

The Blogmocracy might be on to something here.

Bayonet, MALDEF is yet another reason to hate lawyers.

He should have opened fire on those invaders.

    two thoughts:

    1. Civil Rights are protected by the Constitution of the United States, which does not apply to ILLEGAL immigrants. Any Lawyer involved in the Prosecution, as well as any judge that hears this case and doesn’t instantly throw it out ought to be tarred and feathered then tossed into canada.

    2. I guess next time he’ll just have to shoot them rather than having them arrested and brought back to their country of LEGAL residence.

I personally would have mined my property and then said “opps” as the illegals blew themselves up.

    my5princesses

    Good morning.

I ask everyone’s forgiveness for going off topic but ….

I saw on an earlier topic here the name you used at that “other blog” — don’t know if you will see this but I’ll keep trying to catch you — you may remember me form the daily dead thread

Hubby and I were going through tough times — unemployment for him — and there were days when you were very encouraging — I went on the dead thread to thank you and you had left the “other blog”

So I’m hoping to catch you here some time to say Thanks —

Things are still rough — he got a job, then shortly after discovered the cancer he had fought off 17 years ago has returned in a different form — 20% chance to survive the first time — this time over a 70% chance to keep it under control but it’s not easy – so far, though he is working and fighting

    So thanks again –

    Child of Mary,

The 5 is because of our 7 week old granddaughter. She is quiet a little blessing, and her and the oldest daughter live with us right now.

I hated leaving the dead thread folks at the dreaded LGF, but nobody was around anymore, and the talking with the other folks wasn’t any fun. I haven’t posted much since 9/11/08 on that other blog for other reasons.

Happy to hear your hubby has another job! I know that was weighing on you, and being I can certainly understand the helplessness he musta felt not being able to take care of his beautiful lady the way he wants to. I pray your constant love will help see him through this difficult time, although if he’s anything like me, he’ll probably be more worried about you than himself.

It’s about 60 degrees up here, really nice day. The ice is melting and my Golden Retriever will be able to jump back in the water.

Paul told us that we’d never be given more than we could handle. My hope is his faithfulness will somewhat subdue your doubts.

    God bless you,

    my5princesses

Thank you — and I just thanked God for leading me to a place where I was able to thank you — I felt so horrible when I discovered you weren’t there anymore – you know the feeling one gets about things unsaid to people who have helped them through tough times

Cograts on the new granddaughter — she’s very lucky to have such a special grandpa

I know what Paul said — I try to cling to that — but sometimes I wonder if the good Lord has overestimated me — guess time will tell

    C of M,

I’m glad I was able to speak kind words to you, and it’s nice to see you again. I’m sorry we don’t have each other’s email, the only one here I know is Arwyn’s. I keep in touch with the gang once in awhile that way.

If I Understand Christ’s words correctly, those of us who’ve been given much are expected to do much with it. I’m a very fortunate man to still have both my parents, a fabulous wifey, three great daughters and a loud, but beautiful granddaughter.

I will continue on with Joy

Going to walk the doggie, might be back later

any way to get an email address to my5 — some blogs have an intermediate sort of set up — did not see that here — but real glad we connected up again — and I really don’t want to continue too much off topic — it’s not fair to others

Child of Mary, I would be glad to forward an email to My5 if you’d like. My email for the blogmocracy isn’t private.

Buck: I personally would have mined my property and then said “opps” as the illegals blew themselves up.

Unfortunately that is illegal. In fact, it is illegal to booby trap your property at all, even though someone has to be committing an ilelgal act to trigger the booby trap (i.e, breaking and entering).

EVEN if it is a situation where you could legally shoot them dead, it is illegal to have a booby trap that kills them.

but that’s ok. We have President Obama, and he’s going to give everyone a home and a car and make our grandchildren pay for it. (never thought I’d be glad to be childless.)
