Saudi Arabia:  47 Year Old Man Marries 8 Year Old Girl Against Her Mother’s Will

________________________________________________________________________________

Just in case your Western sensibilities caused you to foolishly “know” that this must have been a fluke, a miscarriage of justice in Saudi Arabia, or an obvious sin against “the perfect Religion of Peace”, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia’s highest authority, gave his religious opinion.

Top Saudi cleric: OK for young girls to wed

(CNN)
— The debate over the controversial practice of child marriage in Saudi Arabia was pushed back into the spotlight this week, with the kingdom’s top cleric saying that it’s OK for girls as young as 10 to wed.

“It is incorrect to say that it’s not permitted to marry off girls who are 15 and younger,” Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh, the kingdom’s grand mufti, said in remarks quoted Wednesday in the regional Al-Hayat newspaper. “A girl aged 10 or 12 can be married. Those who think she’s too young are wrong and they are being unfair to her.”

The judge, Sheikh Habib Abdallah al-Habib, rejected a petition from the girl’s mother, whose lawyer said the marriage was arranged by her father to settle a debt with “a close friend.” The judge required the girl’s husband to sign a pledge that he would not have sex with her until she reaches puberty.

Al-Sheikh was asked during a Monday lecture about parents forcing their underage daughters to marry.

“We hear a lot in the media about the marriage of underage girls,” he said, according to the newspaper. “We should know that Shariah law has not brought injustice to women.”

Christoph Wilcke, a Saudi Arabia researcher for Human Rights Watch, recently told CNN that his organization has heard many other cases of child marriages.”

Play nice!

Because, as all civilized men know, it’s unfair not to allow 8 year children the opportunity to be molested by some pushing 50 perv-douchebag.

What a wonderful religion! And, remember, they want to bring it here!

I wonder if this would be excused in California by the “multiculturalism defense.”

We really should get to know their culture and understand it before we judge it.

This is horribly, horribly sad. Sexual slavery really.

Bayonet——- Yeah. I’d like to know what the Enlightened Ones at our “progressive” law schools have to say about this.
On second thought, I DON’T want to know.

There is so much wrong here, and this happens practically on a daily basis.

Yet the “progressives”, and “Human Rights Workers” are worrying about Gitmo, Israel, and the U.S. treatment of terrorists.

It truly sickens me and boggles the mind what the Human Rights people and other so-called concerned citizens of the world worry about when we have this going on in Saudi Arabia (and probably most of the Arab/Muslim World), people dying of starvation in Africa, people being raped and murdered in the Sudan, and other ACTUAL causes for concern.

Stories like this and the many others we don’t hear about from the MSM cause me to lose even less concern for the “poor people” of “Palestine”, “Iraq”, and the other ‘horribly afflicted’ “minorities” in Western countries.

    Rodan,

yes it is. It is too bad the things the UN and “world” worry about when there are actual problems to fix.

Wow, what a sick setback for both women’s rights as well as generally human rights. I cannot believe this country is considered an “ally” when you stack up the list of human rights abuses in The Kingdom. Egads. And against her mother’s will! Sick. Look, we’re in agreement again.

    “Look, we’re in agreement again.”

This is developing into a dangerous trend, Lex.

Saudi Arabia is not an ally. They just buy a lot of our debt and own most of Washington D.C.

Escovado–well, I’m always going to be concerned about human rights. The whole hanging epidemic in Iran also has me in a rage. My relative from Iran couldn’t even go back to see his dying father because at his age they force men into the army there. Moreover, he’s gay and could be hanged there!

I don’t know which is worse, the abuses in Iran or Saudi (which get less coverage, them being our “ally” and all, and owning much of our media). There’s a group on MySpace that works for the rights of those sentenced to death in Iran actually, a website off of MySpace as well….just a sec….OK, here:

BTW, has anyone else noticed that there’s really nothing to post on at LGF Classic? I mean, we’re even trying at LGFWatch and still there’s just a major dearth of post possibilities. Stories about tech stuff and one on a scary bear?!? Is Johnson trying to bore his traffic away?

The story doesn’t shock me in the least. What kinda does is people out there [not necessarily here] reacting to it like this is not Islam. The guy is just following Muhammad’s example, plain and simple.

Say hello to the obedient Muslim!

    Rev,

What shocks me is how our Journalists/Liberal establishment have become so neutered that they can’t even report on, much less criticize this behaviour.

Do you know any Men who would ever even think of selling their 8 year old daughter off to some slimeball to pay off a debt? If anyone would ever look at my daughters the wrong way I’d be in their face.

It is a sad commentary on our media, and the gutless Liberals in this country.

The Muslims haven’t changed any, it’s just some of our Culture doesn’t recognize real evil anymore.

What this loser can’t find someone his own age? I hope he goes to prison and gets raped.

Look up the Siouxie and the Banshees song “Arabian Knights” for a good advocacy of women’s rights in Arabia. “I heard a rumor…..what have you done to her?”

  15. 15 | February 10, 2009 12:46 pm

Women’s rights in Arabia? That’s a good thing to advocate for -is there such a thing?

  16. 16 | February 10, 2009 6:04 pm

Just look up the song. If I link the comment will go into moderation… here:

    The jewel, the prize
    Looking into your eyes
    Cool pools drown your mind
    What else will you find

I heard a rumour — it was just a rumour
I heard a rumour — what have you done to her
Myriad lights — they said I’d be impressed
Arabian Knights — at your primitive best

A tourist oasis — reflects in seedy sunshades
    A monstrous oil tanker
    Its wound bleeding in seas

I heard a rumour — what have you done to her
I heard a rumour — what have you done to her

    Veiled behind screens
    Kept as your baby machine
    Whilst you conquer more orifices
    Of boys, goats and things
Ripped out sheeps’ eyes — no forks or knives

Myriad lights — they said I’d be impressed
Arabian Knights — at your primitive best
