Mumbai Terrorists Hopped Up?

British tabloid The Mirror has a curious report that says the Mumbai terrorists were hopped up on cocaine and LSD.

The Mumbai terrorists may have pumped themselves full of drugs to keep going during their murderous three-day rampage.

Indian police sources say tests on the bodies of dead Islamic fanatics revealed traces of stimulant drugs.

One said: “We found injections containing traces of cocaine and LSD left behind by the terrorists and later found drugs in their blood. There was also evidence of steroids, which isn’t uncommon in terrorists. These men were all toned, suggesting they had been doing some heavy training for the attacks. This explains why they managed to battle the commandos for over 50 hours with no food or sleep.”

The source said one gunman is thought to have injected himself with large doses of stimulant so he could keep on fighting after he was seriously wounded.

I’m skeptical about this. Cocaine, not out of the question. Steroids, sure. But LSD? A powerful hallucinogen seems like a terrible choice of drugs when going on a terrorist massacre spree. Somebody in the Indian police is pulling The Mirror’s leg.

We're not easily offended and don't want people to think they have to walk on eggshells around here (like at another place that shall remain nameless) but of course, there is a limit to everything.

Play nice!

Makes good copy though and entertains the hoi poloi. More bread and circuses!

I could go on about fiddling whilst Rome burns but that might be an analogy too far! :)

    LSD, no way, too freaky

Coke, very unlikely, the effect is very short term

Speed, very likely, the effect is long term

    Gerin Oil, definitely.

Gerin Oil (or Geriniol to give it its scientific name) is a powerful drug which acts directly on the central nervous system to produce a range of symptoms, often of an anti-social or self-damaging nature. It can permanently modify the child brain to produce adult disorders, including dangerous delusions which are hard to treat. The four doomed flights of September 11th 2001 were Gerin Oil trips: all nineteen of the hijackers were high on the drug at the time. Historically, Geriniolism was responsible for atrocities such as the Salem Witch Hunts and the massacres of Native South Americans by Conquistadores. Gerin Oil fuelled most of the wars of the European Middle Ages and, in more recent times, the carnage that attended the partitioning of the Indian subcontinent and of Ireland.

Gerin Oil intoxication can drive previously sane individuals to run away from a normally fulfilled human life and retreat to closed communities of confirmed addicts. These communities are usually limited to one sex only.

“Here we have the archetypal mainliner, doped up with hard, unrefined, unadulterated, high-octane Gerin oil.”

I doubt they were on anything that reduced their alertness. One of the things unbelievable is that only 10 terrorists in each of the hotels held it down. One of the reports emerging since is that an unknown number of the terrorists dressed up into the clothes of dead hostages, and evacuated the place WITH the hostages when the army finally cleared the place, while their comrades fought to the end.

They are at large, and can end up anywhere and do anything.

    The Facts

Crystal meth is a drug that strongly reacts with the brain, and is more potent than other stimulants such as cocaine.

The effects are increased alertness and physical activity, decreased appetite and increased respiration. (Incredibly, small doses have previously been used as treatment for conditions such as obesity.) People often begin to use crystal meth simply as a means to stay awake.

The drug can be taken in many ways: oral, nasal, injection or smoking. And it has many different names; the most common are speed, meth, ice and glass. Others include blade, chalk, crystal glass, hot ice, L.A. glass, L.A. ice, shards, stove top, super ice and Tina.

The long-term effects are terrifying. Those who become fully addicted exhibit violent behavior, anxiety, confusion, insomnia, among many other psychological problems. Brain and heart damage can occur. In a very short time, users become paranoid, disturbed, delusional and often experience hallucinations.

“Chronic methamphetamine abuse can lead to psychotic behavior including intense paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations, and out-of-control rages that can result in violent episodes.

Oftentimes, users lose all control: “Some users, while refraining from eating and sleeping, will binge, also known as a ‘run’ on methamphetamine. During these binges, users will inject as much as a gram of methamphetamine every 2 to 3 hours over several days until they run out of the drug or are too dazed to continue use”

This drug can trap the user in a death-grip.
